Thread: Poll: Should Changes Stay or Should They Go?

(especially the entertainers, since they're even less likely than doctors to be portable and can't buff themselves).
I like many people who have so far posted on this board have had no direct contact with the new foods however several people, Ezran for one have. Ezran and those most involved with testing appear to be far more in support of these changes than those who are operating entirely on second hand facts.
I will put my trust in Ezran and if he thinks the patch is more or less ready, we should definatly put it on the live servers
All I ask is that you push back the new chef publish to coincide with the HAM changes.
I mean come on devs use your **edit** brains! How are we supposed to effectively test our new buffs (designed for a new system) if we can't test them WITH the new system! I'm not the only one who thinks this is stupid.
In general I like the new changes, I think they are interesting.
Just pretty please with a cherry on top, don't make the changes live until we can test them with the HAM changes..... Oh and get character copy on to test so we can effectively test the new changes.

The problem is Ezran has little to know knowledge of how the drastic changes in our buffs affect combat. Without good sub stat buffing food Carbineers/Pikemen/Swordsman/Riflemen are screwed due to the ham costs inherent to thier class.
You're absolutely right. But even on TC, there's no way to know how the buffs are going to affect combat after the next publish.
The next publish (publish #7)is due any time now. With it come the the new combat changes, and as TH has said, less problems with encumberance killing people.
It's too bad that they (chef revamp and combat changes) couldn't come at the same time. But I acutally like the buffer time. It gives chefs time to get good food, so when the combat changes come, we are ready.
As for skill buffs. In general, it looks like they give 1-2 profession levels worth of skill to any given class. As long as the DEVs don't change how much players get at each level, we're golden.

Buffer time will only hurt sales and hurt the combat profs reliant on food. Try being a rifleman or pikeman or heavy swordsman or carbineer with out strong mind buffing secondary buffing food and get back to me. My primary concerns about this revamp come not as a chef but as a fighter.
There's no denying that the biggest sellers are Fishak and Sunburn. That's just an established fact. Other things may sell, but they don't experience anything close to the demand that Fishak and Sunburn do. I, personally, would like to make more than 2 things in this profession. That's why I welcome the changes.
And, frankly, from what I've seen, most of the buffs are pretty good. Take Vasarian Brandy, for instance. The buff can, according to Vimes, go up to +150 to all mind stats (the pool and secondaries), and the filling can be reduced to below 33. If it can do down to 25 filling, you could take it 4 times, for a potential of +600 to Mind, Willpower, and Focus, for slightly over half an hour. It's Muon, with 3 times the duration, and no downer. That rocks.
A lot of the skill buffs look nifty. Increased accuracy, damage reduction, bleed resists, reduction in DoT duration...what's not to like about those? Most of the buff mods are AT LEAST the equivalent of gaining a skill, if not more. That's powerful stuff we're talking about.
I won't even get into the fact that we can make a MIND HEALING DRINK. TWO, in fact. I know a lot of Riflemen that are going to be very happy.
So, excuse me if I don't see what's the matter here. Food is going to be DIFFERENT. Sure, some won't be great, but some will be awesome. Overall, it seems like the majority of stuff is going to be better.
Of course, I'm not on TC, so I really can't say. I'll just have to trust the people that ARE on TC.

****Actually sunburn is not a best seller for most chefs. It may be one of our top sellers but it is at least at number 5 for me and as many chefs have stated here over the last 2 months sunburn sales have drastically decreased from what they used to be. I would venture to say most master chefs best sellers menu ranks fishak, pate, breath, RC all ahead of sunburn.

**Yes and oddly this and a severely nerfed version of breath of heaven are the same things people keep coming back to to prove how good the patch is. Im getting a good feel here for my menu. I see people commenting on the same 5 items over and over. Sound vaguely familiar? Its the same story, different wallpaper. Odds and ends of this and that and a few big sellers just different ones from now.

** Remains to be seen. After all, there are abilities in game that mean nothing. The fact is without putting these buffs into the new combat system, we really cant judge them. Its like asking a kid to play monoply on a candyland board.

** Why do you think fishak and pate are so popular now? 1400 mind heal or 300 mind heal hmm which sounds better? Can you please elaborate for me why the 300 mind heal is better than the current 1400 mind heal?

No offense is intended and Im not pulling out your comments to harass you but more to address them separately because you had a lot to say and I wanted to say how I feel about them.
As a recent returnee to the game (I resubscribed the day before the free two week reactivation, doh!) here are my thoughts:
- None of the food changes should happen before the new combat system goes live.
- Hurrah for milk - finally.
- I would like to see a bigger mix of stat buffs in the new schematics. I really enjoy playing mix and match depending on what stats need buffing, and making sure that some of the buffs are food, and some are drink.
- I hate hate HATE the whole digestion/stomach idea with a passion. Maybe it's needed for some of the skill buffs, but it is totally unnecessary to limit stat buffs to one helping per hour, particularly when they're nowhere near as effective as Doc or Entertainer buffs to start with.
I could definitely live with a better mix of stat and skill buffs, but would hate to see this 'revamp' go live as it is.
I stopped playing UO, EQ, and quite a few others when I realized that what I was doing every time I logged in had stopped being a fun pastime and had become work. With these changes, being a chef will become work for me. This is too much trouble to go through to make items half the populace doesn't even want to mess with.
Now, as for specific comments, I was unaware that we HAD a Mind heal currently. All the lists I've checked for the various foods we can make NOW have never said anything about a healing item. Glucose pate, in particular, buffs a couple of mind stats (from what I know), but it certainly isn't a healing item. Blue Milke and such will RESTORE 350-ish mind to your pool; this is not exactly the same thing as a buff.
In addition, as far as I've seen, the best Chef buffs currently can only be taken once or twice at the most. So, yes, BoH is awesome, but you can't stack it very much. As SirVimes has pointed out in another thread, the Brandy that is always referenced can be experimented to be BELOW 33 filling, which means that one can take it 3 times. It also buffs ALL of the Mind stats: pool, Focus, and Willpower. So, you get more pool points, specials take less Mind, and it will recover faster.
It is also true that we tend to keep pointing to the same 5 items, but that's because, well, as you've stated, we don't know what skill buffs are going to be like. However, think about it this way: how much does some BE clothing with similar skill mods go for today? One of the new foods, for example, buffs Taming by around +10; I see clothes with Taming mods go for RIDICULOUS prices. It seems to me that skill increases would be heavily in demand, as there really aren't that many in the game.
Yes, we don't know how the skill mods will work, but we WON'T know until it goes live. Playing around with things on TC will only get you so far; the true test of a revamp occurs when it goes live.
I understand all the apprehension, and I understand all the fears. Really, I don't like the fact that we're losing some of our guaranteed sellers, and it makes me nervous that we're going into uncharted territory. I mean, all the skill buffs might suck and the entire profession could fall apart. OR, it could be the greateset thing ever, and the Chef might be a god amongst men. I'm all for some more testing, but really, we can't judge the changes until we give it a chance. I'm excited about this; I want to see what it'll do. That's really why I want this to go through; we're headed into a new realm, and it's exciting stuff.
Chalk it up to the scientist in me, I don't care. I like that we're breaking new ground, so I can endure the loss of some of our stuff. You know the saying, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." We can take a risk now, and it could pay off big.
