Thread: Have Chefs become the greediest people in the Galaxy ?

The long and short of all of this is longtime Chefs are quitting the game, whether BEs think its wrong or right. These are the Chefs that are RESPONSIBLE for the revamp, the people who have given new life (and greed) to the BE and Chefprofessions.

I will say that the original poster makes me want to puke, both here and everywhere else he has slimed up the Chef forums with his presence. Get a clue before trying to argue with people who actually know what they are talking about. Though, I did enjoy how silly Nikii made you look.

1000 cask runs are impossible.

2 identical units of trim are required for a cask. So 1000 trim become 500 casks.

Wow...this one got WAAAAAAY off topic. The guy at the beginning never said you charged too much. Hell, thats a great price! ***BUT*** I am absolutly pissed about the sale of schematics. I'm a BE myself and I specialized in tissues before this damned patch ever came out. When the patch first hit, I thought I was in heaven. I was already experienced at making these things and had a shop/vendor/harvestors all setup and in place for them...and now more customers =) And for the first day it went well....sold out and got backordered. What a great time. All the while I was charging a decent price for my server (38k per crate)

But now it's all changed. All you chefs want these tissues, but you know what, I've had to switch back to selling to tailors because of a lack of customer base on the chef market. Why is that? Well one chef told me flat out. He told me where I could shove my 38k a crate because he could get schematics for 50k each. Now all the chefs are doing it, and its a royal pain in the ass.

So, guess it's back to making tissues for tailors....I'm sick of you guys! You've gotten so greedy that your not even willing to pay for the damned tissues anymore.

Oh byt the way, If anyone wants to make me some schematics for Brandy I'll pay ya 50k for each schematic needed.

But casks don't have to be identical, so you do two 500 cask runs. Well, ok, two 499 cask runs (since you lose 2 trim for the schematic), and hand-craft a couple casks to throw into the input hopper for a 1000. Well, ok, a 1000 cask run of Brandy is impossible since it needs 2 identical alcohols (where you cannot mix serial numbers). So Spotty's numbers were probably based off of two separate factory runs, which only shaves a smidgeon off his numbers.

Hey, if we're sticking to nitpicking, I don't want to miss out on the action.

As for the point of the thread (which I believe was paying fair price for BE products), whether it's tissues or schematics the main thing you're paying for is the skill. If 30k is considered a fair price for a pre-made crate of tissues (a number I saw tossed off somewhere), a schematic with a 25 manufacturing limit should cost 30k - (resource cost) - (factory time cost). Maybe shave off a little more (10% or so) to represent the time the BE doesn't have to put in. Multiply by 40 for a 1000 item schematic.

So a Broad Spectrum needs 60 flora (to also cover the organic) and 20 meat. Say flora is 5cpu and meat 10cpu (mid-to-low prices for good quality if you buy your own). Total resource cost for a crate: (60 * 5 + 20 * 10 ) * 25 = 12.5k. Factory time is, what, an hour or so per crate? 150 credits should cover maintenance and power. Cut off the 10% and a schematic would cost about 11k per crate, or about 440 per tissue, each of which will probably add at least 1k to the price you can sell the final food as a single.

/agree cyene.

Id definitely buy at 38k a crate.

Looks kinda like the issue is the gouging chefs/BEs causing difficulties for both the nongouging chefs/BEs

Amen to that.

No I didnt notice But I still pay mytailor morethan that. I respect my tailor as much as I respect every other profession. In fact I pay my tailor more than she asks for because I dont feel she charges enough for her time. Of course if she came to me and demanded 50% of my profit or Id get no trim, Id tell her to get lost. Trim being a small profit item to her, she could easily say I want 50% or not at all. After all..she stands to make more money selling clothes and other things right? So why should she sell me trim when she could be doing other things. I *want* to pay her well. I *want* her to be happy and keep making me trim. But at the point she turns to extortion for her trim which is basically what many BEs are doing...she can get lost. I have news for you.. herCOMPONENT is JUST as important to me as your COMPONENT. Yours is no better to me than hers. I need them both to make a good product.

I may "need" BE tissues. But I dont need them bad enough to sell myself to you. The game go right in the garbage can (as it is) before I do that. You may hold most of the cards, but you dont hold them all. Its really funny, when I told my BE I didnt want any more tissues from him.. it suddenly occured to him that for the last 3 months Id been buying most of his wares. He says hmm I wonder how Im gonna make money now..what will I do. Its a little late to think about that now I take care of the people who supply me..but I expect to be treated fairly and not have demands placed on me in return. Ill be leaving quite a large sum of resources and credits to someone...and I can tell you who it wont be. It wont be the folks that tried to take advantage of me because they thought I didnt have a choice.

Swyreal, I agree with you... There's no need for this arguing. Eventually over time, prices will stabilize, BEs,Tailors, and Chefs will work in harmony, and there will be another patch to piss some other groups off.

This is a game, not real life. If something in game really gets you going this much, just quit. You'll save yourself the $15 a month.

Here's what people will be seeing:

Account 1: Master Chef, Droid Engineer, Merchant

Account 2: Master Bio-Engineer, Master Creature Handler, Master Medic

Account 3: Master Architect, Master Artisan, Master Merchant, Politician

Account 4: Master Creature Handler, Rifleman, Ranger

At least that's what I got now.

I have a friend who's a master tailor and I have access to his account, so I can make my own Trim, my own BE components and my own Brandy. Use my Ranger to harvest the meat, or just buy it in bulk. Got 40 lots to place harvesters, buildings, merchant tents, etc. So, I'm pretty much self-sufficient.

Who makes out on this arrangement? Well, I'm paying $60/mo to play this game.

Oh, this doesn't count my son's account I pay for, so that's $60 for me and $15 for him. Wow!

At least it's better than the 7 Everquest accounts I still have, but expired.

While I agree with you right now we are going through growing pains....some people are only happy when something gets them going this much and is worth the $15 dollars.

Ok, lets look at the numbers.

For one thing, you can never make a factory run of 1000 Brandy's. Brandy needs 2 identical alcohols. Because of this, the most you can make from 1 schematic is 500 before you run out of alcohols from a run of 1000.

Ok, so we are making two runs of 1,000 brandy's with cask and BE components. Let's look at what we need to make those

  • Alcohol:

    • 20,000

  • Brandy:

    • 20,000 Beries

    • 20,000 Fruits

  • Container:

    • 150,000 Crystaline Gemstone

    • 10,000 Inert Petrochemical

    • 40,000 Fiberplast

  • Bio-Additive

    • 20,000 Meat

    • 35,000 Organic

    • 25,500 Cerial

    • 15,000 Water

Now, assuming we can get all these materials for3 cpu (and really, how often do you find high quality materials for 3cpu?), we are looking at a cost of 1,065,000 just in materials.

Plus 100,000 for the bio engineer schematic.

Plus however much the tailors will charge us for 2,000 trim (unless we own our own clothing factory.)

If we gather the materials ourselves we would need at least 8 harvesters, which we need to pay for, and many man hours to gather the meat (we don't have enough points for master chef, combat skills and to be a master ranger...we have to go after the smaller prey)

Or we hire tailors and rangers and other people to gather the resources.....then there are factory runs. To make 1,000 brandies I see 7 factory runs right there. (2 for alcohols, 2 for brandys, 1 for the container, 1 for the nutrient, 1 for the additive.)

I think you see the point.

Nikki, you know the funny thing is that I think you and I probably agree on the relative value of BE additives vs chef end products. I don't think a 1-1 trade is fair, I'm not even sure if I think a 1-2 trade is fair. But what we disagree on is cause and affect. What I've seen is pricing threads in the BE forum of members there asking what "fair" pricing on chef additives are. Look back a week in that forum and you'll see them. You want to know what BE's thought was a fair price? 30-40k or so for broad spectrum additives. Most of them wanted to price them based on *gasp* material cost, yep, the same way chefs *used* to price things back in the "good old days" before the insanity hit. Do you realize that one of the top BE items we've had on our lists forever is to reduce the amount of materials needed in chef additives? Do you know WHY we had such an item on our list? Because we were very very concerned that chef margins wouldn't allow them to purchase our additives and we wanted to have a product we could sell at a price that makes sense, in quantity.

But, along the way a funny thing happened. We start noticing that chefs are running around boasting of charging 500k for a crate of bio modified brandy. We are consumers too. We want your products as well as anyone else. But what the heck can we do? It's not like we're going to charge slightly above material cost, only to see a chef turn around and try to sell us a brandy that is priced at 500k. That's insane. So let the price gouging begin! And Scorus, the bright guy that he is, decided that rather than jump into the price gouging ring, thought a trade would be a lot more benefitial. That way it levels the playing field, removes price escalation from the equation, and for someone like yourself who *doesn't* gouge it's the perfect sort of arragement (or so I would have thought, apparently not though).

Want more proof? Look at some of the threads here in this forum. You'll see chefs saying that they are now suddenly paying twice what they were for additives than they were a week ago. Gee, I wonder why that would be?
