Thread: Poll: Would a 5% Resource Bonus be good for chefs?

I understand the need for "new blood" in the crafting professions, but I do not believe this is the way to go about getting it. I honestly believe that this will do nothing more than create fly-by-night crafters that will make a quick buck and move on only to return when that buck is needed again.

I enjoy Chef because of the challenge, the challenge to be the best. All of the Tempest Chefs you listed are top qualityChefs and I am proud to be mentioned in the same sentence with them and you. None of us make the best of everything though. That is the fun in it. You hear me on vent, "What's the stats?I can beat it!" Then I go to work trying to find a recepie to top it if only by a point or two. All of the real crafters, the good ones, are like this. How long have you been trying to top Resource's Superior crafting stations? That's where the fun is.

By implimenting the resource buff, they are removing the fun that all of the best long-term crafters find in their profession, the quest to be the best. The older, more established crafters do not hold an advantage over the new guys. If they do what we did and put in the effort and time, they will achieve the same things we have. Most likely quicker because of all of the credits floating around out there and the resource base that is already established. What used to take me 18 hours on saturday hitting every resource vendor listed on the planetary map take someone 10 minutes to hit the nearest bazaar now. Everything that I had to figure out on my own is now listed in the frequently asked questions on this forum.

I also do not agree with throwing filling to the wind. All of my foods are still stackable by design. By doing this you allow the user the flexibility of using different types of foods and drink. A mixture of defense foods with buff foods and mabey some Nutricake or Synthsteak when needed. I never stopped designing my foods around filling. I still think it is jsut as important as ever.

The profession has already been dumbed down enough, I dont agree with making it dumber. This will remove what I personally find fun about Chef.

BTW there is a couple practicing BE's out there on Tempest. Just spent over 20 million with Okies last week. There is also plenty of hunters. I can put a call out for meat and have 2.5 million units in a matter of days.

Any thing that gives a boost to our food is a win win situation for us. Right now 2% is a take it or leave it situation. 5% is a bit more take than leave. The only problem is finding a dancer to do the buff when needed. I think this is truely the big problem and not the increase to resources. It is now harder to craft than it was before due to the added task of finding an entertainer.

Either way chef foods need a boost and we should take what we can get.

If the devs reduced our time spent getting hunted by agros, or at the factories dragging crate by crate, I'm sure we would have a little more time for a 30 second - 1 minute long watch from an entertainer.

Good for chefs, good for entertainers and good for our customers IMHO.

Whatever it does for crafting I hope more than anything thatthis patchfills the Cantinas up again. Empty cantinas are one of the most depressing things in the game since CU. The Cantinas (and Medical Centres, Star Ports etc) used to be buzzing centres of community, they brought NPC cities to life and they were (shock, horror) Star Warsy. Believe it or not, I WANT TO LAG when I walk into a cantina. I dont care if half/most of the entertainers are afk as long as the place is buzzing with life.

I know we hated them once, but I would even give anything to see a Doc Buff queue outside Coronet Starport again just for some activity in what is now a ghost town.

And you think this resourec buff is going to accomplish what you are talking about?

If this goes live, it will be run to the nearest cantina that usually has entertainers, get the buff in 1 minute and bail. I cannot see where this will do any of the things you listed, jsut make crafters waste a little more time doing mundane tasks

In a word, yes.

At 2% the buff that chefs get is spread far thinner than it does for most other professions. Even those professions whose resources require 2-3 stats instead of just one typically still only have one line to experiment on.

Although some chefs currently only experiment in 2 lines, this is only because their hands are tied. I would love to be able to get less filling, longer duration, and stronger foods. While 2% will be a slight boost for chef, it will not impact our profession in nearly the same manner as it does others.

I do not think 5% will harm old or new crafters. Remember, all crafters do have their place in the economy. The ones crafting with top-notch resources are serving a completely different market than the up and comings are. Breaking into that top level is difficult, but remember that a chef crafting with mediochre resources can make a fine profit as well--the resources and are cheaper, the sale costs are less, but profit is always the difference between the two (since the manufacturingcosts are pretty much equal for all of us) . . . .

So why not just increase the stats of the foods overall instead of making us go hunt down a dancer for a lap dance every time we want to make some Wine? The reason that crafters are few and far between is that it is, for the most part, full of mundane tasks. Adding more mundane tasks will not increase the new people coming into crafting nor will it increase activity in the cantinas a star ports. I look for a lot more crafters to incorporate entertainer into their templates.

Anything higher than 2% would be too much, unless, as I posted on a different topic earlier, the buff would be applicable only to one resource individually. I actually would prefer the idea of a slightly higher buff %, but only if it applied to one resource, not all resources used in the assembly. I think 5% then would be a decent number.

I dont know what this patch will accomplish, I just hope that it makes entertainers buffs worth something in the game again. I can understand that you dont want to have to find an entertainer in order to play your profession. There were lots of people screaming about the need to get Doc Buffs/Ent buffs in order to play, that were a major driving force in bringing us the CU. However one of the side effects of removing the NEED to get buffed to play was to totally empty the NPC cities. That may not bother you much but it ruins the "feel" of the game for me.

People have always got buffed and run, but when the buffs were worth having and BF was a factor there was constant stream of traffic through the cantinas and whole groups of musicians and dancers putting on some pretty darn good, entertaining shows. Thats all I want, some live entertainment back in the game.

And a few more places like Tails on Chimaera wouldnt go amiss
