Right now the XP rate really gets me too...

....however, I think that this wouldn't be so bad if gaining the XP was more fun. Right now it is really demoralizing just grinding wastril bread for pet food. If we had better variety and food that is in greater demand, I don't think the xp rate would be nearly as bad.

Just a theory.

As time has gone on, and I have experimented with the use of food, I begin to think that a very important fix that should be made is to fix the "food consumption" bars so they actually reflect whether or not you can eat again, and some sort of indicator should be added so that you can see whether or not a food buff is currently in effect, or if you are just "digesting" something that has already worn off.

Food buffs are often very hard to keep track of because of their small size, and the lack of the above indicators makes it even more difficult.

Back to the Egg/Milk Thing. Why not make a new starting profession of Farmer/Herder. One dicipline would allow farmers to get different types of stuff t plant. (At level 1 they would be able to grow flowers on a small matinence plot, level 2, vegetables on a small plot, level three, grain on a large plot, level 4, fruit on medium.) Same thing for the herder side, only with different types of livestock instead of making plot kits. (plot kits take small amount of metal for tools and some of what you want to grow.) These plots could have no matinece, but instead you need to perform an action on them similar to depositing power, only it takes water and a bit of a delay to account for weeding. Cattle Ranchers have low level pets that grow and then can be milked or something. The other two disciplines could be improved gathering/growing. Architects could build barns or silos to put grain or other stuff in. The food would take maybe 2 day to grow, but milking animals are milable daily after maturing.

Exp rate is fine now. You say its demoralizing? Try playing a weaponsmith... that 4th tier skill box ONLY needs 800 items to grind... while chef its roughly 450. If they lowerred it, there'd be far too many masters.

The devs intended a casual player to master in 3 months. Those of us who have already reached master chose to play in what some might call an "excessive" manner, and do it before the rest. The only problem with the XP rates is certain trees for certain professions are far too easy(spice tree for smuggler).

450? Wastril bread has the easiest components and it's what a lot of us use. It takes 964 wastril breads in practice mode to get a 4 tier box. It takes over 11 thousand wastril breads to master chef if you don't grind on other things. Some of our recipes that can be used for grinding give 170 xp, but they take water and animal resources. I would like to see some recipes for chef that take over 100 of a resource, like the architect's furniture line.

Water is not so hard to get, really. Using wastril bread for all four tiers.. ouch.

As for rate of exp, I think the 2* resources thing is a little too simplistic, considering there is a wide variation in size of things made by each profession. Sure it makes sense that architect stuff takes more resources, but it does make it quite a bit easier to get experience for them.

I also wish you got experience for making quality stuff (experimentation + ingredients)...

Q, will SirVimesany other players that put in multiple hours a day be engaged in this "going over?" If not, how will you get it right this time?

I just figured I would pop in and explain the Medium and Large harvester issues:

- The problem is not the final product of the harvester, it's the component needed to make these harvesters called "Harvesting Mechanism". If you try to build one you get the "Downloading schematic to datapad". I've let it on over-night to test it and it never loaded.

- This issue has been around since BETA, I don't understand why it hasn't been fixed by now.

- The Architect Designer apparently had no clue at all despite our constant complaining, his response on our boards was: We’ll need to look into this, it sounds like a bug. Which schematics are you receiving the “Unable to start crafting session” from?

I'm posting here to give you guys all the details since the Chef Designer seems to have a better grasp of the problem.

I've found 2 issues with this:

- lairs do not cough up eggs often enough. I have done a lot of lair searching and I almost always get a "sample of live creatures". Eggs are too rare. I've given up searching them

- UXP for consumed food, by other players or pets, ONLY seems to work when the chef is online and the food is consumed near them. If you are far enough away, or off world, the chef gets no uxp. That is wrong imo.

Anyone stupid enough to grind to master chef using wastril bread deserves it. All the lines have a few decent grinding items. Ithorian mist is the obvious example, and getting a medium/large moisture gatherer is possible, unlike flora farms.

Chef buffs need to be made into the most effective buffs in the game

simple as that

I dont care if doctors get angry

I dont care if Smugglers are unhappy

Chef is the primary buffs each of there skill lines takes more exp then the doctors or the smugglers craft lines.

The Chef needs 4 lines to get there best buffs

Smugglers and Doctors only need one , Doctors however need to be a master for certain Draft Schematics but can use the best buffs before master.

Smuggler buffs are not ment to be super powerful end all buffs they are that little push over the top when you want to have a edge.. So the fact that they stack with chef buffs already makes them do exactly that.

Spices should never be the best of anything they are not supose to be mass produced and all over the place.

Advantage : Buff Stacks with all other types of buffs in the game and can be used right when you need it.

Disadvantage : Side Effects after the effect wear off limited to one at a time

Doctor buffs shouldnt be super powerful they last the longest right now they are the best buffs in the game .. The Doctor in my PA buffs me for 2200 HAM for 2 hours with this best stims .. Doctor buffs also can be used too buff every singal non mind stat at a time.

Advantage : Target doesnt fillup like on food they can take 1 of every buff the doctor can hand out making there stats insane for 2 hours sometimes longer.

Buffs can be for insanely high amounts basicly the doctor right now is the primary buffer in the game and the chef is the alchemist that no one neeeds.

gains Access too healing stimpacks which gives them the ability not only to buffed out of the win wang but can heal themself and others all with only needing one profesion.

disadvantage : needs to be near there patient to give them the buff..

Chef buffs are the weakest in the game , most useless in duration.

Advantages: can sell food to anyone to use.

Advantages: Can have the tittle Iron Chef

Disadvantage: Gets asked the question "how did you get Iron Chef?"

Disadvantage: Filling bar at master chef is horrible , each food will fill the eater up entirely which makes them less useful the Domestic arts foods.

Example:

Using Decent Resources last night I was able to craft a

Vercupti of Agazza Boleruuee: +411 willpower -150 stamina(which with the bug is -300 stamina) in a stack of 3

You can eat one of those every 11 mins. 645 seconds

Then I crafted with crappy Hides and Meat a Exo Protien Wafer (domestic arts 2 or 3?)

Exo-Protien Wafer: +112 Willpower +112 Constitution in a stack of 8 duration 305 seconds

I could eat 6 of these every 10 mins.

The only advantage I was really gaining from the Master chef food was the Duration.. The fact I lost so much stamina almost nullified the use for that buff unless I was usinga Tatoonie sunburn at the same time..

This is a letter I sent off to Q-3PO

Q, can you please forward this to the chef designer?

First all, thank you for responding. I am not sure if you are aware of this, but any contact we get from the developers is appreciated. I think this is a good start.

Here are the responses from the boards..

1) Desirability of Food – Duration of buffs is too low right now for its use. Foraged food and spice are outselling food made by chefs.

We’re going to do a balance pass on all food. This should help us understand what changes to make.

We think doing a balance pass on this will be great. Most people feel on the board that if you feel like you have to do some re-arranging of the recipes, that would be fine. There is one thing we would like for you to keep in mind, however. We realize that as you do this you need to keep your eye on the big picture and make sure food is balanced with spice and medicines. Please remember, however, that while smugglers and doctors have other ways to contribute to the community and to make money, all chefs have is buffs. We think this should be a major factor when you look at foods.

If you would like to know more about our feelings on balancing food, I would like you to read these two threads:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=chef&message.id=5335

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=chef&message.id=3114

5) Milk and Eggs – Milk and Eggs are not prevalent enough in the game. They are rarely foraged and sometimes found on NPCs, but are required in many recipes.

Eggs should be more prevalent through lair loot, milk is in progress. Let us know if eggs are more plentiful as of our last patch.

Personally, I haven't had much problem with finding eggs, but many people on the board disagree with me. We think eggs should be just a little more common than they are now, and the living samples should be even less common. However, the real issue is milk. We need milk a lot more than we need eggs, and when you introduce it to the game please make it somewhat plentiful. Deffinitely more common than eggs.

6) Usage Experience Points – Is UXP working as intended? How does UXP work with feeding our pets?

If you own the pet, you will get no Usage Experience. If it is someone elses pet, you will receive Usage Experience. This way you still gain usage experience from those who use your food to feed their pets.

I know what is suppose to happen with UXP. What I am saying is that it does not always happen. The best we can figure it is that you have to be logged in and in the same area as the pet when it eats the food in order to get UXP. Also, we don't think items from factories give any UXP. UXP is, at best, very hit and miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. We know how it is suppose to work, now we want to see it actually work.

Thanks again for your work, and we look forward to see what you have planned for us, and to hear from you again. Please come by and visit, we are really not that scary.

I think that master chefs should have an energy drink that removes the "tired" status so that one can burst run several times. Just a random thought

Here's one I didn't see in the posts.

You can no longer view the buff stats on food from a vendor or in your inventory. The buffs still work, but buyers can no longer check out the buffs before they buy, or once they are in their invnetory.

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.
