Now... Would I like the funds to buy the really good attachments for better experimentation? definitely! If I charged more, I probably could. As it is, I'm amassing a collection that were given as gifts from those who appreciate my efforts and the fact that I am reasonable in my prices. As for the other crafters' charges. I make enough to replace my armor as needed. My weaponry was free. I support myself with about half a million, a million in reserve at any time. Most importantly, though, I love what I do? Why should I make others pay for that?

You've got a great gaming attitude, Mysterie. Sometimes when discussing prices, we lose the fun factor. It's not so much that you should make people pay for your time, but rather that your gaming time is limited and therefore valuable. Everyone needs to find a way to support their character given what gaming time they have. Let's say that Thakitillo and BoH both took the same number of resources. If that were the case and we only factored in resources then both should cost the same. But BoH takes considerably longer to make, and so I feel there should be some adjustment for that fact.

In the end, pricing formulas only provide a rational starting point, and it is up to the individual to work from there to balance fairness, profit, and fun.

I got a question for you all....

I have brandy that is made with decent but not great materials and no BE additives. They are, I believe, +170 for 42 minutes.

What would you sell these for?

I made similar Brandy cleaning up my inventory by burning odds and ends of resources: +188, same duration, same stack size, 50 filling. My vendor is barely moving any of it at. The occasional single stack sells, but not even a partial crate has been sold - not even two individual stacks to the same person. I've actually pulled a lot of it off my vendor and have taken to giving it away as free samples to my hunting groups. After people try it they're more receptive to purchasing it, but it doesn't seem anyone gets really excited about it until personally seeing how much of an effect it has.

Of course, I also get a some "this sucks my friend makes +230" or "why isn't it +420 like the other stuff you're selling?", but in general once people have had a taste they want more.

If you make 10 crates a day (for example) and you sell them for 10k each (for example) and the sell out in 5 minutes, raise the price. easy.

if you sell them for 100k and they sell out in 2 hours, raise the price. easy.

if you sell them for 200k and they sell out in 12 hours, you guessed it, raise the price. easy.

if you sell them for 500k and you have 5 left tommorow when you want to add 10 more crates, lower the price. easy.

see how easy pricing is. No complicated formulae. Just simple supply and demand.

also, if people think your greedy because you charge the most you can, who cares? The money you make will ease your bruised ego's suffering quite nicely.

if others want you to lower your prices to the point of not making money, who's being greedy then? Do they really want something for nothing?

One chef on our server is selling casked BE brandy at... 65k a crate. I'm really frustrated because I can't compete with this even if I get tissues at 25k

You don't need to compete. Sell your product for what you want. This guy will sell out so customers will come to you

After a while customers will get very tired of trekking all the way to this person's vendor only to find it's empty again

Ya, If i'm selling stuff too fast I raise the prices =).

Pretty simple. If sales slow down, I'll lower them. Fortunately I'm in a high traffic mall and have been able to sell for high amounts and keep vendor stocked AND do very good volume.

Let's say I'm at the price where it stays on the vendor between my production runs. Day one I produce a stat buff that's at +200. Day two I produce one that's at +190 (I just ran out of good resources). If Joe Customer comes in and sees the +190 buff selling for the same price he bought the +200 buff for, he may feel ripped off (or he may not, some people don't care). That's one of the reasons I use "complicated formulas" when determining prices (that and I like math ). It's also the reason there's no nice, neat round numbers on my vendors.

It's not for everyone; nor should it be. It's just the way I like to do things.

One of the things I havent seen directly mentioned is the ammount of money the combat classes are able to make off these foods, brandy especailly. My girlfriend plays a master chef on Flurry, she produces NON-BE BRANDY at about +218, filling 49, quantity 10, duration 35. She sells a crate of that for 125K, I can take that one crate with 250 uses, gulp down 2 uses, leaving 248 uses and make almost all the credits I spent buying the crate back. So that leaves me with 248 more uses off that crate. Thats one of the variables alot of chefs, in my opinion, arent taking into consideration. She understands not everyone can afford a crate of 25 brandy for 125K, so she will split one crate into two crates of ten brandy, and then sell 5 single units. The main point is that people are making money off your foods, usually WAY MORE then they spent purchasing it.

I came up with my own method of pricing, using somewhat of a cpu of rescources, but with slighty changes. Here goes:

First I look at the rescources required in the item, and mulitiply it by one of the following numbers(based on the cost/ease in which i can obtain the resource)

All flora/water is given a rating of 1

All hide/bone is given a rating of 1.5

All meats are given a rating of 2

and all milk is given a rating of 2.5

For instance synthsteak requires:

20 vegetable x 1 = 20

20 cereal x 1= 20

5 hide x 1.5 = 7.5

------------------

so its rating is 20+20+7.5= 47.5

I then take that rating and multiply it by both X and Y, where X is the minimumcpu I want to use, and Y is the max cpu

so we have a range of47.5x- 47.5y per item, and *25 for a crate(rounded to the nearest thousands place)

based on the quality of the final product, its general usefulness, and amount of charged per item, I choose a price within that range. Seldom do I choose exactly the x value, or exactly the y value.

I only use this method for foods.

Additionally for each subcomponent, besides the above forumla, i add +10 to the rating. So something that uses carbosyrup would have a rating of 6(sense carbo takes 6 units of flora) + 10(for the additional trouble of making the subcomponents) . If something uses 2 carbo syrups then I would only add +10 once, and each additional of +5 sense I already have to make the component.. one more isnt that much trouble.

It may sound a bit confusing to some, but the general idea is that it gives me a good indication of cost to make the item compared to others around it. X and Y values will fluxuate as chef food/rescources are more common, or less common. And its up to each individule chef to find his/her comfortable range. If you have 0 clue, X and Y are the general cpu you want to charge for your foods. However for me, sense im not a scout, I have to pay for my meat, so its not exactly x cpu per item.

I havent yet messed around with a method for drinks, sense containers probally would mess up this system.
