Thread: Calling All Billlionaire Chefs
umm... just a thought. but shouldnt you chefs think about dropping your prices? you, along with the armoursmiths with insane prices, i fear is going to lead to massive inflation, and a game wide depression.
People had amassed hundreds of millions of credits before the CU, but now that mission payouts is extremely low, the only way to get alot of money is in space, but even that, is nothing compared to running janta missions pre-CU.
I know that AS requires alot of new funky hard to get resources, as well as chef. But as the price goes higher, peoples bank acounts will be shrinking, soon the noobs will never be able to buy the required things to be successful in the game. Then the veterans will be broke, and all of the money will be locked up in the crafters accounts!
If something isnt done to reverse this, i can see the in-game economy being in deep poo-doo, i fear worse than it was during the credit dupe crisis.
And yes, i have a master WS, and i know all about how hard it is to find the "named" resources, let alone uber ones. I know all to well about long factory runs, and the shop overhead.
just my thoughts..

Like everyone said, it is all supply and demand. Servers also vary in their prices. All the crafting professions are hard in their own way, whether it be named resources or a ton of components. Crafters have to thus charge for their hard work and still keep up with the demand.

you do realize that this is not a real-world economy right? There is no money re-circulation, once money is spent it is gone.
Just a question, but where do you think my money goes when I spend it? Am I dropping millions on jukeboxes and shuttle fees? No. I'm spending it all buying resources and items from other players. The money DOES recycle. I pay the rangers and resource brokers, and they, in turn, buy food from me. Everybody that had money before the CU still has money after the CU unless they spent it unwisely, and now that missions pay every person that's in a group the same amount, people should be able to earn money rather quickly when grouped, considering how easy it is to kill a lair or a mob with 8 people going at it.
When you need money, you harvest for crafters, or go do some missions. Where does this money go? On Armor, weapons, food whatever. If its looted the person selling the item will no doubtibly go and spend it on crafted items. The crafters make generally goes back into the business, paying for creature resources or paying harvester for mined goods, or simply buying grinding stuff for components.
All this money goes round between people. Hardly any leaves the game. There are no significant money sinks in this game, the amount of money pooring in doesn't leave fast enough, so you get people being able to accumalate vast sums of money, just for being good at what they do, and 9 times out of 10, would do it even if they were just breaking even.
Sounds awfully similar to real life to me.

It's all supply and demand. When the demand is greater than the supply I am willing to provide, prices go up until the demand balances the supply. When demand drops, prices will as well until the demand rises. While there are many people who don't understand these most basic laws of economics, active crafters usually understand them very well. We tend to spend a lot of time preparing and we don't spend all that time just to see stock sit on a vendor for a month then have to be relisted.
As long as demand is high and supply is low, prices will not go down significantly.
So you may be charging 300k a crate now, then 150k in a month, than 100k, than 50k, and possibly 25k a crate in a long time from now, because people cannot make enough money to cover there costs. if you set a reasonable price that is whithin the combatants ability ti gain money than this is balanced out, most combatants do not sell resources to make ends meet. with the nerf to mission payouts, inflation will start to creep into the economy.
Yes, I do realize that prices may swing, that's what happens in an economy. And the fact that this economy exists inside a game makes it no less real. Prices will drop when someone offers a lower price and is able to keep up with the demand at that level. When people can't sell an item at 300k, they will either not make any more because the cost/time to make does not justify the return, or they will drop their price.
There are always people who charge more and those who charge less. As long as the buyer perceives he/she is getting a benefit from purchasing the higher cost item, it will continue. If the buyer sees no difference betwen the higher and lower cost items, they will normally purchase the lower cost item.
Very few people will reduce their prices based on altruism, normally those who charge less are deliberately undercutting the competition in order to gain market share.
As for how people may or may not make money, how they play the game is their choice.

This has been the mantra of people b!tching about chef priecs forever now. Who is really price gouging here. Me with my 50 to 75% markup? Or the person charging 6 to 10 cpu for something that costs less than 1 cpu to harvest (600 to 1000% markup)or the guy hitting me for 35 to 110 cpu for the meat or hide?
I will drop mine if you drop yours.
