Thread: Chef Correspondent Report #2 7/29/03
Oh, and one more point -
when talking about usefulness of buffs in comparison to Doctors/Smugglers, mention that Buffing is all we do. Smugglers slice and buff, doctors healand buff - we just buff. Shouldn't we have the best ones?

I've been /bugging this, but I feel it is a big enough bug to go on the list:
Fix Droid Food Crafting Stations. They broke about a week ago, and being unable to cook on the spot in the cantinas takes away what little flair we have.

Q said that they are putting a fix in for this one sometime today. (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=210952#M210952). So even if it does not work for some reason, the developers are very aware of it.
Excellent work SirVimes, thanks for keeping us informed and up to date on the situation. I agree with the top 5 problems you have listed. I don't care what order they get fixed in, as long as they get fixed ![]()
Ok, um, back to serious discussing...ing...ing.
: skips away, giggling with new found power :
droid food stations are fine now.
I think that what you've written is great, though I agree factories are more important than market.
Another minor detail on the factory issue: I'd like to see stuff that uses factory components give more xp... at the moment if I want to make vegeparsine, I first have to produce factory soypro, so that I can produce factory veghash, so I can finally produce vegeparsine, which give my **edit**ty xp compared to the amount of resources I put into it. That's just an example of course... same applies to other stuff with components.
Also, on the buffs: We've got about 100 different buffs... surely they could fit it in there to have some long lasting stuff with less effect(with boosts roughly like what we have now, maybe a bit weaker), and some stuff that lasts only3-10 minutes with stronger boosts then what we have now(so the duration is like what we have now, but the effects would be higher). We shouldn't be outbuffing doctor or smuggler as we have other advantages(flexibility, multiple simultaneous uses, lack of side-effects) being the main ones, but we shouldn't be too far off either, since overall, we are meant to be the best buffing profession(as it's all we do).
Stop reading here if you dont want to hear my reasoning as its sort of longwinded.
There's a place for long term boosts with people entertainers who want to increase the amount they can dance for long times, and such.
There's also a place for short-lasting "power-boosts" with fighter classes, who need a buff that'll significantly increase their fighting potential to last them for that quick fight(I have NEVER had a single fight last more than about 3-5 minutes. Even fighting dark jedi master with three friends only took about 2-3 minutes)
Both kinds have their place, and I'm sure both will have a market. I know for sure the second kind does from experience with sales of tatooine sunburn.
Finally, regarding the pricing of these: Unlike other professions we wont be able to price them at 10*resource cost or so, since these are after all much more consumable. So to make large profits we will need to make a lot of them, and for this again we need factories working, if we're to make profits equal to other professions(if you're really hard working, you could hand make everything, but that'd be a **edit** lot of effort).
I've read over the lastest thread here. Here are my latest thoughts on the chef:
1. Factories are nice to have but until they get it fixed consider not bothering with it.
2. Get general experience for food and drinks before you reach chef and then get chef exp for all food/drink after you get to novice chef that includes domestic items also. Devs implement the chef materials under the same area as the domestic code and well get chef experience when people use our stuff.
3. Spice is nice to use for most people but after selling food and drinks to several people wanting buffs to wear their composite armor and various bh's they all want buffs they can rely on thus the humble chef steps in. The market is out there for food.
4. What with the vendor: food listing when you do a /find is the devs putting in a npc food vendor? Is that good or not?
5. Spice is illegal in most of the galaxy in the star wars story thus han solo smuggling it so put a clamp down on spice and not make it available so readily its really hurting the chef profession. Add some depth to the game the spicemight be sold via black market in say mos eisely but not in bestine a strong imperial town at the bazaar terminal.
Thats it for now. All you chefs keep going and have fun while doing it.
Unfortunately I have not had any experience with factories. Between the bug that I am not getting money from my sales on the bazaar and the bug that my harvesters eat up money at an alarming rate, I have yet to be able to afford one.
Can you please give me more details on your complaint of the crates? I am not exactly sure what you mean.
Certainly, and thank you for asking. Problems with factories..
1. When you experiment, you can increase the quantity of the food stacks greatly. When you make the schematic and enter it into the factory, instead of getting 25 stacks of food, you get 25 of one single serving of food, regardless of how well you expermented on it. The stimpacks are working fine, you get multiple stacks of several charges, which seems odd since they utilize the same factory. So, when I make a stack of Wastril Bread, for example, I maybe get 6 bread per35 resources. If I put it into the factory, I get onebread for my35 resources. Hard to make a profit this way. ![]()
2. We get zero Uxp on food eaten from factory crates.
Thank you!
Cami
Ah, ok. Yeah, I was aware of those problems. When you said: "It would be very nice if I could get the crates to spit out food stacks like the stims." I thought you were talking about a problem I wasn't aware of.
I will be re-writing the report sometime today, and will include the factory problem and post it on the board.
Here's a question...
Are foods actually "stacks", or are they single items with "charges"?
Can you seperate a stack of 4 Rations into 2 stacks of 2?
I've never actually tried and I can't log in right now to test. ![]()
I just achieved Novice Chef and while Iam having fun with all the food I can't hardly sell it at all
I do agree that the food benifits really need an overhall. Our buffs should be better then anyone elses and last longer as well.
Report looks good! Thank you for representing the Chefs so well.
