I would also say its not chef that is failing but chef "alts" that are failing.
In the pre-CU days anyone could make an alt, only harvest good fruits and berries. And then stock their merchant with endless crates of Brandy, canape and ahrisa. It was easy money and anyone could do it. Its a changed and much more complicated system now. Only those who are serious about the profession will be a success. And thats how it should be.

QFE. I've been sitting here, quietly, for the past 2 weeks or so seeing 2 things: All the post CU chefs who got in it for the money complaining its not as easy to make cash as it was, and all the pre CU chefs i have known on here for months now being calmed leveled headed and making a killing.
Chef has always been percieved as the easy money maker, and perhaps for a while it could of been, but now chefs have to think, make educated choices people simply can't take it, and we see the resultings whines.
Its a shame really, because we have problems, but were far from broken.
I disagree. I am a post CU Chef. In fact I picked up an alt just to do some craftign with and during the respec period looked at a number of other crafts and eventually had a look at Chef which was one of the last crafts I checked. I don't know why but it just clicked with me and I've stuck with it.
There are a number of Chefs on Chimeara but I would state that only 8 or so are serious crafters and probably only 4-5 top end Chefs. I know that in order for me to compete I have to be dedicated and if you ask anyone in my Guild they will say that I soend way more time on my crafter than my Jedi. So much so that people are starting to think of my crafting char as my main! Since then I have added BE to supply myself with tissues and added a 2nd Chef so I can craft twice as quick! (Hate waiting for my stomach to empty of Bespin Port).
I can't imagine many being more dedicated! So I disagree. I think its hard to say that post CU are all whiners. Its not that clear cut.
Ohh your so hooked now, truth be told managing my chef businesss is what has kept me from quitting the game and growing sour over a host of issues, its still so much fun do to my crafting stuff.

lol. I am sooooo hooked! I am addicted to Chef but I must admit that i may ahve gotten bored if I hadn't picked it up! I'd even go so far as to say I have made a name for myself as a good dedicated Chef and I am amazed when people name my company even tho I am a post CU Chef! Great feeling! he he I am so addicted that I went almost 6 weeks without actually fighting! My crafting char is teh first I log in...
That said I ahve seen at least 8-10 new Chefs since I picked it up. There have only really been 3 decent Chef's pre cu that I know of and I think I was one of the first "respec" post cu Chefs.

The Chef prof is addiciting. Its the satifaction that you can push those experimentation points to the limit to try to get the ulitmate results. This is a cool thing. Not to mention, that some people will mention "if it wasnt for so so and foods, I wouldnt been able to acoomplish my goal" My Chef is the first thing I login (only becuase my Jedi has already a pre cu finished temp in April)
As far as a /respec chef, I am one and proud of it. I didnt do it for the money becuase I was already wealthy from a wholeyear of looting that I did pre-cu. I did it becuase crafting was one thing that I never really tried so I tied the apron on and put on my hat and went to work. Im not worried about being the best Chef or being well known. I just want to consistenly push out quality products to my customer base. I just want to push out quality they can count on.

I AM bothered about making credits and being well known but only for being the best. I believe that out of our current crop of Chefs that there are probably only 4-5 top end Chefs with anotheer 3-4 following very closely behind. The competition is good and I for one am happy with it as it's pushed my food on no end. As a whole I'm quite happy with my overall food quality and think any improvement will be in the resources and not me...

Well good luck with those sentiments. I not in the frame of mind to say who is number 1 or 2 or 3...as I dont care. I just want to make my customer base happy and have fun pushing the food crafting envelope.
Hmmm. I think its the competition that pushes us. To be the best. There does come a point when it doesn't matter but for the most part we're all driven on by what the Chef next door makes. If you're the only Chef on a light server what incentive do you have to push the envelope? But when you have the kind of competition like we do in Commerce then thats when you get great prices, great foods with everyone striving to out do the other....and as for credits I made some from Smuggler but not that much really. I am not in a position to say I have already made my fortune.....Chef was originally to fuel my spending. I didn't know if it was better or worse for making creduits than any other craft. I just happened to prefer it to the others I tried...
