Thread: I hear Chef is failing
While you say some stuff i agree with our durs suck and the stacking issues suck. But chef is still very viable pyro is effective along with ale both very good sellers for me. Not to mention steak its hard to say but i think its better than what it was. Our dur's need to be looked at overall but in general we are not doing to bad. We could use some content and maybe some improvements to our diff foods and changing the other foods that are for the most part the same.

The proffession is failing ..miserablly ... heres why ...
No other crafting prof has direct competition from other proffessions .. Example : Its not like a Master Artisian can make a SHIP ...Or a peice of Armor ...Or a weapon worth using ...Yet an Artisian can directly compete with a Chef with the artisian foods , alot being more usefull then the chef foods ... You can add a 2nd profession into that equation of you include spice buffs .. thats somewhat questionable as they arent foods or drinks like the Artisian ones
Artisian foods are easier to manage ..its very hard to really USE alot of the chef items due to the LOW DURATION ...1 minute Pyro ? lol almost funny ...2 minute steaks ..2:30 whatever ...Not only that , but due to stacking issues alot of the chef foods are X'd from use ... very little variety with most of the stuff ..TO MANY OF THE FOODS AND DRINKS DO THE SAME THING ...
The idea of using the amount of rescource / time ,) taking into concideration the amount of rescource used in additives ), and basing the price of your items on the amount of rescource used , its simply not worth it to customers to pay 100k for something that gives them a 1 minute buff ..or even a 5 minute buff ... or EVEN a 9 minute buff .. When they WERE geting 45 minute buffs from alot of diffrent foods and drinks ...
Chef WAS over looked completlly ...its a discrace of a proffesion now .. Master Chef foods should hold some kind of VALUE .. when not ONE of them is more usefull then the artisian foods ...
Most foods have very little value in combat at all ..only slight , very minimal advantages .. not worth the credits spent to obtain these minimal advantages ... My alt is a master chef ...my sales changed slightly , the problem i actually have is with my combat char .. I miss using foods to my advantage ... I really dont enjoy taking a food only to take one again 5 minutes later .. its to much work , its a pain thats that doesnt justify the time or credits spent ..and most players are coming to see that now ! .
Instant cure poisons/disease .. Nice ...great food, would of been usefull as HECK precu ...Post cu ..not worth it ..Nothing in pve diseases or posions anymore ...In pvp posion / disease has been nerfed that using one of these foods wouldnt even really be worth it as fighting with a disease/poison isnt that much of a hindurence ..
Yeah , thats just my take on the prof ..it needs a revamp.. YET AGAIN ! .. which of course presents the problem of converting created items over AGAIN ...Id suggest to chefs out there to never mark their foods with " stats " ...as i think a revamp will come for the prof ...Its like when they did the cu .. the last PROFESSION to address was chef and they were just to tired and burnt out to actually maintain what was a very fun prof to play ...Its like they just slaped it together ..very little thought ...Most frustrating thing is how many of the foods are so worthless and do the same thing just in a lesser dose ,, or they just rearranged ONE part of the buff ...
I like alot of the cu ..but devs .. u droped the ball with chef ....COMPLETLLY .. Ive heard people say AS is in worse shape .. What a joke i play an AS ..and i wish my chef got that much love ..Factional Armor , Bh craftable , Ris Certified ( no need for Ris Schems anymore ) .. making ALL ARMOR TYPES competitive in terms of stats ...AS's went from crafting pretty much nothing but comp / species armor / and the rair suit of R.I.S ...to being able to craft ALL ARMOR types competitivly ...ADDED factional armor ..added BH armor ....
/rant off ...

This one is nice, except that it no longer works for me beacuse of some weird .net error that cropped up that I can't get an answer to on the forums.

Hi everyone!!
I was wondering whats up with all this talk/rumor/fact (?) of chef. The Chef profession being second from the bottom.
I have been working on it. I also know someone who played alittle over a year ago. Food was important then, like Canape, the drink.(don't know the name) that regen mind. Is food still a big deal and needed.
They took away the need for dancers healing battle fatigue, so didthey do that to chef too?
What I am really worried about it working many hours on this and its not worth it.
Thanks for the info in advance!
Epii ~`~<@
Hi ya Epii. I am the largest chef supplier on the Wanderhome Server. I was the largest Doc buff supplier on the server pre cu. I did not respec the char I had a chef altthe entire time but didn't see the need to persue the profession pre cu as there were many chefs at the time and did not want to compete with my friends for business. After cu hit the chef profession became a very scarce profession and I stepped up to the plate. Directly after cu hit I made over 150 million credits doing chef just the first month.
At the current time I make between 5-10 million credits a day selling food. I have a menu that features over 70 items on it, including all the chef food and drinks and 14point artisan items. What dedication you put into your craft is what rewards you get back at it. Personally I have 50 factories running at all times. I am my own tailor for trim, my own be for tissue, and I craft all the chef wares. For people who tell you its a dying profession I personally think they are wrong. I have done many crafting professions since game launch and chef by far is the best I have done and the most rewarding. I offer customized food menus to my patrons and try to come up with recipies to help there combat based on the individual needs of each player. How sucessful you are in your craft is entirely what you make of your profession.
If you feel chef is something you want to do, I say go for it. ANd post cu chefs I feel have a huge advantage over pre cu for this reason, People are using more then just 5 differnt foods.. Each individual utilizes more of the food and drinks then they ever have and it keeps me as a chef on my toes to constantly try to better each item I make and continuously create new recipes using the different additives.
Yes, Its very hard work. Yes its rewarding. No its not for the casual gamer. I prob spend more time crafting food then I do at my reg job. But at least its something I enjoy and people appriciate the time and effort I put into it. That right there is the reason I am chef now. Do what makes you happy.

Not really. There are still a bunch of foods people like to buy, although quite a lot of stuff that's being asked for is Artisan food (so if your crafter is a Human and you are willing to skill Artisan 44xx or even Master, you are a winner). I personally cannot complain about too few customers, and I don't even run a proper Chef shop, just minor vendors in our city's Mall.
I can complain because I spent over twenty mil on my cantina and its my only source of income and I am probably gonna quit because of SOE those a*ss holes don't care at all and oh god I am too depressed because of this f*cking game/cry self
Please tell me you're kidding...
sry bout that I forgot to take my Zoloft

I would also say its not chef that is failing but chef "alts" that are failing.
In the pre-CU days anyone could make an alt, only harvest good fruits and berries. And then stock their merchant with endless crates of Brandy, canape and ahrisa. It was easy money and anyone could do it. Its a changed and much more complicated system now. Only those who are serious about the profession will be a success. And thats how it should be.

QFE. I've been sitting here, quietly, for the past 2 weeks or so seeing 2 things: All the post CU chefs who got in it for the money complaining its not as easy to make cash as it was, and all the pre CU chefs i have known on here for months now being calmed leveled headed and making a killing.
Chef has always been percieved as the easy money maker, and perhaps for a while it could of been, but now chefs have to think, make educated choices people simply can't take it, and we see the resultings whines.
Its a shame really, because we have problems, but were far from broken.
I disagree. I am a post CU Chef. In fact I picked up an alt just to do some craftign with and during the respec period looked at a number of other crafts and eventually had a look at Chef which was one of the last crafts I checked. I don't know why but it just clicked with me and I've stuck with it.
There are a number of Chefs on Chimeara but I would state that only 8 or so are serious crafters and probably only 4-5 top end Chefs. I know that in order for me to compete I have to be dedicated and if you ask anyone in my Guild they will say that I soend way more time on my crafter than my Jedi. So much sothat people are starting to think of my craftingchar as my main! Since then I have added BE to supply myself with tissues and added a 2nd Chef so I can craft twice as quick! (Hate waiting for my stomach to empty of Bespin Port).
I can't imagine many being more dedicated! So I disagree. I think its hard to say that post CU are all whiners. Its not that clear cut.

As i said in the post, it was only aimed at people who got into chef to try make a quick buck. I've nothing against post CU chefs, or any new chef coming into the profession, but coming into a professions forum whining we've been nerfed and that they can't make money as easily has become a common thing here now. And its mostly from the newer people to the profession, I.E post CU.
I've all respect in the world to all the people here who like myself are in the chef game for more than just credits.
