What I did when I was a chef, was went out and bought all of the Gem and Chem under 2cpu on my server. Set up my factories in away that I could run nonstop trim and cask runs. Let it run for a week on nothing but cask production. Used bags and put up on my vendor for storage.
I did the same thing for my BE nutrients.

That's what I'm doing too at the moment, but I've found that the gem is just a total and complete pain in the keister to find cheaply. I don't know which other professions need it, that it can go for as high as 4cpu for grind quality, but it makes me growl every time I need to go and hunt down a new supply.
It's definitely nice to have trim and casks going around the clock so that you don't have to worry about casks for a few weeks though.

Couldn't agree more. It seems cheaper to pay a miner to get it for me at 3cpu than to buy it off vendors. Very few people have it for less than 4cpu on my server.
ANd that just fuels my anger at people who don't know how to price resources properly!! ANythign with 9xx suddenly goes up to 4-5cpu at least even if its absolute crap!
