I went on hiatus for a couple of weeks and sold out of all of my crates, shut the factories down, everything. I came back and as I fired everything back up and began Alu production again, I decided to make some singles of Bivoli, GGP, Sunburns, and a few other items, just so I wouldn't have to stare at an almost empty vendor.

During this time, I pulled in around 10k a week. I normally do about 2 million in business per week with crates. From travel expenses alone, I couldn't live or operate off of the money received from selling singles without having to run missions (and I'm not very combat oriented), even if onlyto afford shuttle tickets.

For me, singles are not a very viable option.

I always stock singles in my vendors as samplers and for people who just don't have 40k to buy a crate of fishak.

Can I make money at it, prolly not. I agree with the other chefs here that all the money is made in bulk. Selling 1 crate of Fishak for 40k is easier than selling 25 singles of fishak for 1600. There is also an inventory issue.

I know I will be able to sell single barrels of drinks but in general I made all my money in selling bulk.

What prompted this SirVimes?

I could not support my business selling singles, and I would not try. 99.9% of my business is crates, the singles I sell from short crates sell only when my crates have sold out. In the entire time I have been a chef, I have been asked only once for a smaller than normal sized crate.

"You cannot make a decent profit selling singles. The time investment necessary to make singles is simply too much for the return."

This sums it up for me as well. Singles don't and won't sell, so I wouldn't bother making anything. It would certainly make my decision about keeping my chef account much easier.

Side note - because I know that Verant's database issues, I'm assuming this question was asked not because the devs have suggested that crates be removed - but rather they want real feedback as to whether the current food/BE recipes on TC are prohibitive to crates and therefore cheffing.

99.9X% of my sales are crates.

I could not survive from singles sales (I'd have to change professions)

Crates are the only real option. Customers want crates not singles. I do, on occation, make singles to see if there is a market for that item, but other than that, singles are not wanted.

And if they add the cap on vendor items, then chefs will be seriosly hurt, and not by singles, but crates. The purposed 150 limit is not reasonable.

I have 3 Vendors selling Food.
They are on 3 diferent planets.
One of them has just singles in it, the two others have mostly crates and a few singles (if I get e.g. one 22-Crate out of the factory, I'd put up 2 Crates of 10 and 2 singles aside to the usual 25-Crates).
The main sales come only from crates currently. Usually the singles are the last items left on the vendors.
The Vendor with the singles is only filled that way due to roleplaying reasons.

Irun 9 factories, and 6 vendors. 3 vendors have singles, 3 have crates. I average selling 25 crates a day, and 15 singles. single items are priced proportionally to crates, so profit is the same.

I split crates on 2 vendors.. to 6 packs and 4 packs.. players that purchase from those vendors usually buy 4-6 crates at a time

Full crates on one vendor has players buying 4-6 full crates at a time.

I think the problem is in inventory space, not cash on hand.
