Thread: Are there no capitalist thinking Master Chefs? Or is it just Sunrunner?
I found a Master Chef on Bloodfin that has a vendor for food and drink.
WOW!!!! PET FOOD!!!!
and that was all.
I am willing to spend millions to get the food I want. I might even make my character a Chef.
I have a lot of sympathy for both sides having dabbled in both professions without getting to Master
The first comment I would make is that the approach is wrong here: don't tell Masters of any profession I have decided on such-and-such and this is where I would like you to fit in.
If you instead explain that you are a merchant, interested in stocking food, and ask whether they might be interested in supplying you or helping you set up then you'll be successful I think
Look for a partner rather than someone who will do as they are told
Nextly, there is a way round the demand issue. Once you have a partner, find out what goes into the food you particularly want to sell and go off and get enough resources for, say a couple of thousand crates. Then get your partner to run you off a schematic and mass produce
Next, if you have burned your bridges (and flaming the only 7 people in a position to help you may not have been a shrewd move) there are two suggestions I would make
1) go into partnership with a Novice Chef. Mix 2 and the experimentation line at 4 is probably where you have really worthwhile products so finance their development to that point. It's an investment
2) sell artisan food. My main character now is a TK/Doc and you would not believe the difference exo-protein wafers make in a tough fight. I get +355 Willpower from scoffing down 5 of these and we made this out of some 700 or so OQ junk that we had lying around in large quantity. Perhaps your Novice Chef can do this for you
Finally there is always going to be tension between a well-played Merchant and the Crafters in the game. People get upset when you're expensive, upset when you're sold out, upset when you undercut. When someone disagrees with you instead of disagreeing back try to find a way to take their view into consideration and work out a deal. Merchant is a highly diplomatic role as you depend upon voluntary labour in a game where money is very easy to get and so not much of a motivator
Good luck
