Thread: Are there no capitalist thinking Master Chefs? Or is it just Sunrunner?

This type of thread came up a couple weeks ago, and I'll reiterate here:
The demand is far far greater than the supply on chef foods. The vast majority of chefs have their own vendors, and can barely keep those stocked. There is no motivation to supply you, because it's easier to just sell it ourselves.
There's the rub.
Amen to that. There is a week to 2 week waiting list for my products, regardless of how much you order. The demand is craziness.

Pyrrhus,
I'm sorry if I wa not clear enough, I'm not expressing myself well today... I understand your comments about dealing in bulk with merchants; I knew this.
What I was trying to come up with is some kind of incentive for the chef you will wind up dealing with, to have to NOT name his products, but to instead in fact, act as a wholesaler/subcontractor to you, but still feel as if he is getting something for the loss of his own brand name.
The thing here is that in our game as opposed to real life, there is very little to distinguish us when acting as suppliers [us being artisans in general]. Reselling is either hated or loved in SWG; you either appreciate that you sold something and got what you asked for, or are pissed that someone discovered they can charge an extra 10k for your product and you didn't think of it first. There is no mechanism for stopping people from doing so, because our player market economies are so damned wacky and unstable. IRL, there are commerce laws to define who can and cannot resell something and what and why. So, what I was struggling to express is some kind of contract with the chef to supply you. You gain the prestige of being a supplier of food crates [or whatever] and are allowed to brand them as YOUR product; the chef loses his branding, but has somethingso he cansay "Hey, I got this for it instead".
IRL there are contracts of this type; I have no idea what they are called specifically, but what I was trying to get at is a guaranteed sale amount per time period whether or not you got rid of the entire last shipment. It's that guaranteed income that would act as the impetus for the supplying chef to not put his maker's mark on the product, or in fact to put YOUR name to it instead. You each lose something, you each gain, and both are happy that they have not somehow been cheated.
I see what youre saying.
You know what's interesting is that crafters weren't originally intended to be able to sell their wares. Originally, all crafters sold the things they made to Merchent players who actually set up vendors and sold them.
Of course this was when there was going to be an entire profession that did nothing but make schematics which, if you were a cook and wanted to make Tatooine Sunburn, you had to buy the schematic from a player that could make schematics, buy the materials from a miner, make the item, then sell it to a merchent who sold it to everyone else.
But the way the skill trees ended up, a crafter do everything from cradle to grave.
That is an interesting point you have about people sometimes being irritated to find out that people would have bought an item for the extra couple k that a merchent sells it for. hehe Hadnt thought of that.

This is still basically true. You get one vendor whithout being a merchant, and can't do much with that merchant. I'm personally keeping four vendors, which means that I have to keepa lot of skill pointsdedicated to being a merchant - 'specially since I like to keep themadvertised, etc. (I do this now - but might at some time consider teaming with a merchant in order to use those skill points in a combat tree.)

#1. I never stated that I am the only person that enjoys serving customers.
#2. It's the way you asked.
I suggest you go back and review the post/email that you left here and that you sent to chefs. Your wording is what I don't like regardless of the fact of whether I am sold out or have food/drinks rotting on the vendor.
I probably get requests daily to resell, supply a guild or set up a vendor from people. None of them asked like you did.
If you review my previous post again, you will notice that I don't do this for the money, so your empty threats of losing hundreds of thousands of credits means nothing to me. I don't know how to make it any clearer than I have hear or in my previous posts.

I really don't want to get into an ugly debate.
I know full well what I said. I said I would prefer that no special naming or the addition of the chefs name was on the product because I wanted to mark up the product (as merchents do) and wanted my customers to come back to MY SHOP to get more, not to see Vallyn's name on it and to send a /tell to you.
That's what merchents do.
Maybe you have so many millions of credits its not important to you, or maybe you simply enjoy running a little cantina somewhere and aren't interested in making alot of money. I have no idea. And how many thousands of people request your products really doesn't interest or impress me either.
I'm simply looking for a supplier, as I have with so many other things that I sell, and having a difficult time finding one.
I've written nothing that would be offensive to most people. If you have taken special offense to it, then there's nothing I can do about that.
Sorry.
I was surprised to say the least when I opened up Coffee and Donut shops on the Corbantis server on Thanksgiving. I went from 4 food factories to 8, 12, 17 and now 21. I've been saving organics since becoming a Master Chef many many months ago and since the latest bug fixes.. I havent been very successful. Now I've got the guild backing me up and some help on Vendors and Food factory placements so the Corbantis server Chef food supply has dramatically taken a turn. Its great to not have to worry about credits anymore.. in fact our whole guild is like that now. I'm up to 7 or 8 vendors now with a little help from another merchant or two within the guild. Restocking the vendors is about the only pain but knowing that these 150 crates of goodies you just put up will sell for 30k to 75k each in the next few days is a good feeling. Millions upon millions of credits are to be made each week for each merchant within the guild. Your right.. Chefs are the new weaponsmiths and I think it'll get even better after the changes. When I get tired of baking and need a couple of days off.. I load up all open Food factories with Aludiumslet them bake for 2.5 days. Thats a couple of days of peace before I get back on the restocking the vendor saddle.
So to sell crates to a merchant. I think that would be great. My biggest pain is not the baking, the harvesting, the schematics.. its the restocking of the vendors 3 shuttle hops away. That would save me a ton of time and if you were on Corbantis.. we'd be dealing.

I've been feeling lately like I can't even make a dent into the supply side of food anymore. Monday night I put up over a week of work (200ish crates), and I log in Tuesday to find my 3 vendors cleaned out. After checking the logs, I sold 12+ million in just under 3 hours. And then later that night I get emails from guys saying, "I thought you were going to stock your stores tonight" I don't think they would believe me if i told them. 3 full runs of BoH and 2 full runs of Fishak, gone in an hour.
Methinks there needs to be double the Ahazi chefs, or I need to double my prices.

Why don't you just buy food and drink from the vendors being run by the Sunrunner Chefs, and resell them on your vendor? Seems to me that everyone would be happy.
I could have done that. But I enjoy networking with other players.
I also know that, though I find it bizarre, some players don't want their items resold.
So though I could just go out and buy everything off their vendors every night and resell it on my own, I have more respect for them and their customers than that. Even if they don't return that respect.

Raise your prices and the natural laws of Supply and Demand will kick in and you'll get double the chefs as well. ![]()
The more money you are making, the more other people will want to do what youre doing, which eases your burden, while at the same time making you rich.
Capitalism rocks.
