Thread: Chefs need to learn prices
I charge 225 for a Starshine Suprisewith 10 uses. Which is about 5xper resource and 20 creditsa sip. Too bad the quality reactive gas I was using is dried up on my planet. I can now only get 7 use drinks. ![]()
I charge a minimum of 3 or 4 credits per resource then add a bit if it's an exceptionally done piece of food.
For example: I made some jawa beer the other day and usually charge at least 150 for it. But this beer added +100 to 2 stats but only -4 to focus and buffed for a total of just around 10 minutes. Quite the good drink if I do say so myself. So I charged 200 for all 4 stacks I had made. All of them sold in 24 hours.
Point is: You charge what you think the market will bear. If someone comes along and undercuts you that's a different story but quite frankly there aren't alot of chefs out there right now so if folks will buy for 150 to 200 per stack then that's what I sell it for. It's not like I rake in 20k a week or anything.
Brullig here, Starsider chef in the making.
I sell all of myself in person, not on the bazaar, in the Coronet Cantina. I have a few people who have come to know me and place large orders (did 10 starshine surprises and 10 kanali wafers for 200 creds today), as well as some scouts who will come in to empty out their inventory in exchange for a few drinks. Getting wooly hide this way is MUCH cheaper than buying it on the bazaar.
As for pricing, I try to stick to 3-5x the resource cost, with maybe a 10-20% "swing factor" that I'll raise or lower the price depending on how rude or nice the customer is. I've gotten a few people who tip an extra 10% of the cost to me, and I sell to all the entertainers in "my" cantina for 1/2 price. I can't wait until I get to Chef foods and can start earning decent uXP.
My supplies for drinks have been limited, but have had no problem selling Jawa Beer for 250 Starshine Surprise for 500 or more. Mostly, people seem to be looking for alsohol for RPing purposes. When I have charged for foos, It's been at 5 credits or more per resource. Much more if I've used additives I've made form BioEng.
I am a casual gamer, so I'm only able to play a few hours a day. I don't have the money to maintain harvesters, and I don't have the time to sample ALL of the resources myself. Usually, for any given item, let's say a Starshine Surprise, I'll have to pay the 5-10 creds per resource to get 1 to all 3 of the ingredients. If I have a lot of time, I'll try to hunt down the ingrediments msyelf, but this takes FOREVER.
I refuse to do missions because I think it is a handicap. It is a cheap and easy way to get money in this game and I seriously hope that the developers lower the mission rewards ASAP--there is too much money in the economy. Therefore to help the economy, and not my character, I don't do any missions.
So basically, I have a hard time getting cash.I usually sell Starshines for 215 credits, Ruby Bilels for 195 credits, andTeltier Noodles for 235 credits. If I have the time to hunt down the resources myself, thenI charge this amount to make up for the time lost. If I have to spend obscene prices to get resources on the bazaar, then I charge this amount to make up for the lost money. In the end, I only make a small profit considering that I'm a casual gamer AND that I don't do missions.
Needless to say, I have sold every single food item I've put on the bazaar. I suggest you ALL raise your prices. People ARE rich anyway, they can afford it...raise your prices and stop doing missions.
I will lower my prices a little now because of UXP, to see if I can sell food more quickly so I can restock faster and get more UXP.
Food is so under priced in some areas. I am selling out at 10x resources constantly in my neck of the woods. I think some of this has to do with creature handlers buying food. I didn't even realize it when a guy next to me with a baby rancor was buying it as fast as i was putting it in the bazaar. I could have given him a deal...
People running missions have money to burn, and they are coming around to buying food and drink. Look at the prices on resources in the bazaar. That is how I came up with 10x resources. I buy what I need for 4x-6x and sell at 10x. I add value to the resources and expect to be compensated.
And I do...
I do not feel sorry for people constantly selling out and constantly having to survey. They need to raise their prices. Chefs are in short supply and the demand is rising. Make some money and buy yourself something nice ![]()
I price out my stuff depending upon the buffs it gives, fair market value, and other factors.
My stock items that I am just grinding on, particular the much beloved Wastril Breads, I do for 40cr per use (so I'd sell the typical 3-use WB for 120). When I get bored with mere grindage, sometimes I'll cook up several dozen batches of WB near my crafting station to experiment and increase either the use count or the buffs, or both... and if I come up with something outstanding, I make it a "branded" named item, such as "Branson's Stellar Calzones". Of course, I've also turned out a few real dunkers, which in a fit of humour, I renamed them things like "Stinky Piles of Bantha Poo" or something like that. I price those accordingly.
I sell my WBs as "Stellar Calzones" when they come up with the +45 action and 400s or better durations, generally, and those I have sold repeatedly for upwards of 75cr per use. I made one batch that warranted the name "Flippalicous Theed Style Pizza" for 120cr per use, although I do not remember the stats on that specimen. I shoulda wrote that down along with the specific ingredients I used. =/
I follow a similar pattern with other foods, where I have variations of Jawa Beer, Ruby Bliels, Charde and Starshine Surprises. I'm still working on my Tier 1 upgrade, can't decide if it is better to go for Mixology I or the most right-hand skill tree (Cooking I ? it's the one the adds to your experimental bonus)...
Eventually, I hope to turning out Tatooine Sunburns - and if the same pricing logic works, then life will be good.
J2, you're crazy! 200 for a Sunburn is WAY TOO CHEAP. That thing should go for at least 400. 800 is more like it though. People who sell GOOD drinks for this cheap kill the business for newbs! I sell my Starshine for 200 all the time and everybody buys it. If you sell yours for 800 everybody will buy it, too!
Don't kill the market for us novice chefs!
