Thread: Novice Chef with money trouble, HELP TEACH ME PLEASE!

2. Collect resources on contract from another crafter - A lot of crafters don't want to bother with identifying, surveying, and pulling resources. If you set up a contract with some WS or AS, they would probably give you rate 13 heavies (mineral though ) to pull resources for them, and offer a decent cpu for your time.

This is the most promising suggestion if you can find an opportunity to do it. I was lucky to stumble accross someone a few days ago that supplied me and my bussiness partner 7 heavy mineral harvesters on loan if we would manage them for him and promise to sell all produce to him at 1.7 cpu so he could resell. This is currently generating us over 100k profit a day. Because of this, I can now focus on my dream of becoming a master chef. Up until a few days ago, I never had a credit on me for more than one day without having to stuff it into harvesters for maintenance. This has made all the difference in the world for me.
The secret of success for a chef, I believe, is getting out there in the world and meeting people. You can't just sit in the kitchen all day. There are people that are more than willing to help you in your struggle to the top. And they will be you most devoted customers eventually also.

As a novice Chef, I've made tons of cash on pet food...it will not net you any chef experience though! LOL
You need to find some good wheat/cereal that has high Overall Quality. Use it to make Bofa Treats and experiment up until you get 8 or 9 units in a stack (This is tied to your Overall Quality though, so experiment it to the max of what you can get out). Make sure to name your schematic Pet Food.
Run off some crates of these. The crates take 275 resources each and at 8 or 9 charges in a stack, I have sold them like hotcakes on the bazaar for 3K each. If you don't have a factory, then you need to run missions and/or sell resources until you can get a food factory and a floral harvester. Power has generally been cheap to buy, but you could also get a wind harvester pretty easily or make one yourself depending on your Engineering Skill.
As far as prices for Starshines, Charde and all of that, I have had excellent success using the guide that is stickied at the top of the forum. For the Chef-specific foods, since I have no experimentation, I cannot make the stats as stated. I adjust my price per use accordingly. Artisan foods that have sold well for me besides the pet food are starshines and teltier noodles.
