Thread: Chef and JtL
I could not have said it better myself

Yes but we need something for our people.
I've thought of a few ideas...but keep in mind I'm not in beta and have very limited knowledge of JtL...basically what is posted by either LucasArts or SOE.
We could have a few foods.
1. A drink or beverage that increases the speed of a vehicle for a time. This concoction when used on the vehicle would increase its speed.
2. Perhaps some sort of food that would enable you to go to hyperspace before you normally could ( basically it enables you to see gravity shifts and gravity effects enabling you to more precisely pick a jumping point. )
Like I said without seeing it is hard to say for sure what we can do. But I feel that as a crafting profession we shouldn't be left out of the first major expansion....

My opinion is simple...
Food should only increase body functions, not ship functions. If it could make the pilot enhance in reflex or concentrate harder to activate hyperspace, then fine. Other than that, no dice in my book.
I tend to agree with you. The quick samples I made were to show how easy it would be to add something. Its just stupid to think that Food & Drink is such a HUGE part of the ground game and nothing in the space game ?
Without knowing totally how JTLS is working its difficult to make some good working examples of "space food & drink".

What space food ideas do you all have? Remember, JTL has no skill mods (there's nothing like"+Ion Cannon accuracy") and player HAM is pointless when all the combat is ship-to-ship.
While I can neither confirm nor deny that chefs are/aren't getting new stuff with JTL launch because 1) I'm not allowed and 2) I didn't look (getting into space and blowing stuff up was too tempting), brainstorming ideas is always fun to do. There's always the possibility of space food getting added in a publish after JTL launches.
Thermofried Icecream
A food favored by Ithorians on deep space journies, it has been known to sharpen the reflexes.
Fill: 66
Duration: 40ish mins
Effect: +5 to 10 ship control (would make a lesser ship a tad easier to fly and control)
Pirate's Moxie
A rich and heavily spiced drink favored by pirates, it is commonly found by those who frequent the watering holes of Lok.
Type: drink
Fill: 66
Duration: 1-3 hits
Effect: 80%-100% damage reduction to your ship
Bro, its a twitch based game, ship control is based upon urfingers and engin parts.
Foods cant enhance ur engin parts and the rest of it is based on how well you fiddle with your joystick *couldnt resist*

i jsut tihnk that we should be able to make some food that boost like shileds and weapons for a period of time stuff like that kinda like ground but in space
Realistically how does a food you put in your stomache boost the shields on a ship?
- Things like speed, turn radius, damage, "HAM" (shields and armor), etc are set by your ship's specs. While I can imagine several ways for these to be modified (permanent upgrades, powerups, or slicing, for example), none of those can really believably be affected by having your in-game character eat food. Damage reduction on the ground can sort of be rationalized by making synthsteak give your character some "enhanced reflexes" or something, allowing him/her to "soften the blow" (taking a hit on a shoulder, for example).
- There are no in-game skill mods for your character's combat ability. Weapon damage and firing speed is determined by the weapons on your ship. Accuracy is determined by how well you (the out-of-game player) can work a joystick/gamepad/mouse.
So if everything in space is either dependent on ship specs (which I feel shouldn't be affected by foods) or the player's out-of-game skills, what does that leave? There's no system currently in place on the in-game character that can benefit from getting "buffed". That doesn't mean that things can't get put in later. Before the chef revamp, there was nothing in the game that corresponded to faster incap recovery, but we got that with Starshine and Cavallerian creams. But I think that it would be better to wait for JTL to get launched before we have enough information to consider expanding the system.
I'd prefer to table this discussion for a while, coming back to it in a month or so. How's that sound?

They were examples only. Foods cant make you take less damage from a 20 ton Rancor also....but they do (Synthsteak). Troll somewhere else.
LOL, u said troll. And u didnt explain how a food is going to affect a hull/sheilds/boosters of a ship.
Have you ever seen someone on crank? steriods? or any other controlled substance?
I am a big guy, i can definately handle my own and put someone down in a fight, one on one. However, i (being 220 pounds) wouldnt think of fighting someone weighing in at 170 pounds who is on crank. They dont feel it, you punch, you kick, you pin, nothing, they feel nothing until they are knocked out or dead. Thats the difference, a food or a drug has a physical and chemical altering affect to a body and nervous system. Organic foods affect metal and plasma... how?
Go be a renob somewhere else.
My example of food was just an attempt to be creative. I did not suggest anything by them. All I did was post two ideas that sprung to mind. My idea of the foods was that they help the pilot maybe move out of the way a little by enchancing his or her reflexes...hence the damage reduction. Or perhaps they increase other attributes enabling you to better control your ship.
Again they were just quick creative ideas. Rather then tell me and other posters why our ideas wont work (even though they were hasty) why dont you post some alternate ideas ?
Either way I wont be arguing with you any longer since it will prove derogative to this thread.

Well sciguy you are the correspondant but while I'm not in beta, I do know we are the only crafting profession that is being left completely out. I think that is a bad omen for the profession not to even get anything in the first major expansion of the game. Especially after they took out so many schematics with the chef revamp promising to restore them a few at a time with each publish but that they have never followed up on.
Anyway, I'll just leave the thread now.....
