I stock a large variety of different foods. Around 20 that i allways have in stock and 5 others that i make when i have the resources. This gives me a lot of repeat customers since they know that they can allways get what they want at my vendor. With the new changes my big variety wont really matter, since every one will shop from 2 different places (theed and coronet) and just come to pick up what they bought.

My vendor is convinient located close to theed witch allso gives my a lot of cutomers. Wont matter anymore, since its just 1 shuttle jump to pick up the goods people buy.

Im located with another crafter, a doc, and we compliment each other really good. This again wont matter, since no one would be buying from my vendor directly.

I hang out at my vendor a lot and chat with the people that come and shop, explain what different foods do, give advise as to what to use in different situations. This will allso go bye bye.

One of my favorite hobbys is tovisit out of the wayvendors for good deals. No more of that ither.

Non 12 point chefs are going to have a hard time selling anything, since everything will be easy to campare for stats. 10 point food takes just as many resources to make as 12 point food and so the cost to make is pretty much the same. Only difference is that mine would sell since its better (im a 12 point chef)

i will probably make just as many credits as i do now, lower profit margin but i will be selling bigger amounts. The time involved to make schematics load factories ect.will then cause me to only make the fast selling foods, and my big variety will be gone, since i simply wont have time and factories to make anything else.

Now, it might not turn out be as bad as ive described above, but i foresee less fun and social interaction for all crafters, and less profit for our work. I hope i wont be as bad.

Overall i belive this was made to help the customer on the expense of the crafters.

Focus thread in Merchant forum

I've got some reservations, although they may get cleared up by later additions to this initial proposal (it's not set in stone yet, folks).

  • Nowhere is any Merchant/Artisan skill requirement mentioned for this ability. Personally, I think it should sit squarely in Master Merchant. Even Advertising IV is a bit too light on skill points for this wide of a market.

  • Instant delivery seems like a bad idea.

    • Is there a distance limit? Instant delivery from vendors "in this region" might be a good addition, but getting an instant delivery to my inventory on Naboo from a vendor on Talus just doesn't sit right with me.

    • Is there a cost to the customer for the delivery (additional credit sink)? Does this cost depend on distance?

    • Chef foods have a good "impulse buy" market. Someone comes in for Brandy/Ahrisa/Whatever, and gets intriguedby the Parwan Nutricake you have for sale. With instant delivery, we lose that.

  • Unless this comes with a revamp to the market categories or sorting across multiple pages, things are going to be a mess. It's hard enough trying to find things like new loot components in "Generic Items" on the bazaar with a galaxy wide search, it'll be even worse with player vendors. Although, I have to admit, I may finally be able to track down some blank canvas and paint dispensers to use up some picture printers I've accumulated.

  • There's a greater possibility of "subsidized chefs" (get provided with meats/resources/tissues cheap or free by a PA) squeezing out more solo-oriented crafters with higher costs. Although small business can seem to compete with Wal-mart, maybe there's hope.

My personal opinion is that this is great, but the initial stuff is just too much. I think for anything beyond "This region", you only get item details and price. You can buy it, but it works like buying from another city's bazaar: you get an email with the waypoint and have to go pick it up. One thing to be careful of with this, though, is that it might lead to people putting desirable items up for sale for a cheap price, then slapping a 10k entry fee on their house. To combat this, allow "retrieve this item" from any vendor within a region, not necessarily the particular one you bought it from.

Best way to avoid this is to have access fees disabled if any vender in the building has the galaxy search enabled. Similar to not allowing venders if the structure is private. IMHO

This will be the DEATH of Player cities as we know them....there will be no need to even have a player city anymore...or a shop.....there are way too many PROS and CONS to this idea that i think it needs to be thought out further before they start using it in live........

The thing that seems most problematic is just that you can buy 'anything anywhere.' While I'm sure thats what they intended, it launches the crafters into an unneeded price war. At the same time though, the combat-types are (understandably) ecstatic over this. It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out...

Regardless of whether or not this is good for prices, player cities, etc., it is going to be very difficult to shop for chef products using this feature. Chefs almost always sell in crates so our food will be listed in the "factory crate" category along with every other type of factory crate out there. If someone wants to buy some brandy and compare prices, they will have to wade through the crates of stims, vehicles, powerups, and every other kind of crate to do so. Unless they have added a new search feature, this is going to be a huge headache.

To those who say impulse sales are dead, I just have to laugh.

what about all those "impulse" buyers who see your stuff when they NEVER would have gone to your vendor in the first place.

You will regret opposing this idea.

The global item searchfunctionality has been pulled from the TC update for more analysis. I think they underestimated how big a shift this change would have on the merchant side, they may have been too focused on simplifying shopping from the buyer's point of view.

I think most crafters would like a way to market their items on a galaxy-wide basis. Plus, it would make things a bit simpler when buying cross-profession components. Visiting 15-20 vendors marked "tailor components" and finding no trim (or only a few crates) is always frustrating.

The goal of simpler shopping is a good one, the devs just need a design that doesn't gut the Merchant profession. Just to point it out again: this has been delayed for more design work, it's not axed. Depending on your thoughts about the change, that could be good new or bad news...

As I said in the other post about this topic. Just show the generic names of items on vendors, that way people will know what a vendor has or not then they can go there and buy it. If you show stats and price its my belief that it would kill of all small time crafters beacouse they just cant compete.
But making a search option on the map or something for the generic names would be much better, just type in/selecet tailor trim from a list and voila you get all the vendors on the planet that has it in stock, maybe also how many is in stock, but not stats or price!
