Thread: Hmm people re-selling your goods
I have done this beforenot for profit or anything cause everyone knows the best chef on our server, but best doesn't come cheap...but i use his stuff anyway I did a guild special, I put his brandy on my vendor for 1 credit per 18 stk just for my guildies cause I was in need of merchant xp and this was my gift to them, they could take it all as long as they spaced it out to every 15 minutes
BTW I am having a blast as a chef /cheers
And as someone also said, it sucks when people make money off the back of your work.

An AS friend of mine who sells quality armor very cheaply has signs posted all over his shop not to buy more than one suit of composite at a time from his vendor, and he bans anyone who violates his rule. He does this because he wants to charge a low price, but doesn't want one person coming in and cleaning out his whole inventory.
And here's how people get around it.... The person who wants several suits, so that he can attempt to get the slices that he wants, rounds up several of his friends. He goes in, buys his suit, and then gives the money to his buddies, and they each buy a suit. They then trade the bags to the first guy. He still gets his 5 suits of armor, and no one gets banned.
There was a WS on my server at one time, who had a limit of 2 of any type of weapon at any one time. The prices weren't cheap, but they had good stuff. One of my guildies did the above. While I can understand "wanting to keep a well stocked vendor" I also understand the concept of supply and demand. If you've got some of those factors backwards (low price of a high demand item) it's going to sell, and sell fast.
One of my guildies is a reseller. He's got a degree from one of the top business schools in the US. He was banned from a shop for reselling. If I remember right, no warning, not signs posted, just banned. He still buys from this shop. He has friends go into the building, and tell him what's on the vendor, and for how much. He'll then /tip the money in. Want to here the ironic part? He doesn't resell this stuff. He uses it for himself.
I typically try to price my foods at a price that reflects the time and credits I had to put into them. If a reseller thinks that he can get more, bully for him.
I got what I wanted. And I get plenty of special orders.

I really do think some miss the point of why some people get up set, you get paid sure but alot of chefs aren't in this just for the money, alot of people like to provide a reliable service. And when someone clears you out to resell its hard to provide that service.

Unfortunately, you're only looking at one side of the coin. The reseller is not just making money off your efforts, some of them are actually putting in quite an effort themselves. Although I don't resell myself, I know a couple people who, in effort to "diversify" the game and for some RP value, focus on reselling. They try to be very considerate, and not clear out vendors of specific things (although I have seen one of them once go on a massive spree... but did at least clear everything, and not just the 1 or 2 most popular products), try to set up a bulk ordering system with crafters where they can, and spend a VERY large amount of time scouring the galaxy to find the bet of the best products at the best of the best prices. They do this to provide a very valuable service to customers. The best products from all categories in one spot. They even run their shops with an RP setup as being "Importers", "Locators of exotic quality goods", etc.
They will fully admit to their customers that they are resellers (they don't want to take credit for someone else's craftsmanship), and they will give the name of the maker of the item, if known and asked. The only thing they won't give is the location of the shop they get it from, they politely ask that the customer put forth their own effort to find it, just as they had to.
Really, it's no different than any store that you purchase anything from. The store didn't make that item, yet they're profiting from it, is that wrong too?
Yes, I will admit, there are *bleep* out there who are really inconsiderate in the way they resell... taking credit for making the item, buying out the most profitable and popular items all the time and leaving the lower sellers, etc. but not all resellers are this way.
Please try to recognize that some resellers are out to provide just as good of an every bit as important, although slightly different, service to customers as you are.
