I haven't had many problems with rude or unruly customers, actually. My vendor sells at a good pace but I don't get a lot of "Can u make me sum brandi" kind of tells. I have singles on the vendor and they do pretty well, so that probably takes care of a lot of the people who just want a stack or two.

But last night I was in the side room of my shop, working at my O.Foods Galactic Central Processing Computer, and I hear two guys in the main room talking to each other

"Go on do it" "There I told u u could do it" "hahah" etc.

I figure I know what's up, so I go into the main room, and sure enough, they've moved my nalargon across the floor There's a bug where instruments like a nalargon and an ommni box can be moved around by any player without being on admin for the building. I've got both instruments as decorations and they've been moved halfway across the room.

So I catch the guy vandalizing my shop, and then he has the nerve to start demanding that I make him havla!

"odeko.

"i need havla.

"make me sum havla plz i need it"

And so on

I tell him that I'm sorry, I don't have any right now and I'm not really equipped to make it at the moment (it's just not something I get a lot of demand for), plus I'm mostly AFK doing things in anther window.

He keeps pestering, he tries "the customer is always right" and continually saying that since I'm a Chef I should know how to make it, etc etc etc. All the while I am busy moving my decorations back to where I put them in the first place!

Then he starts saying that he's being nice to me, and if he wanted to be mean he would move the nalargon again. I stop just short of telling him to do it, so I can ban his ass

Anyway, he gets the message eventually and leaves. The sad part is that he was a member of what used to be one of the most respected roleplaying guilds on our server, who prided themselves at staying in character and setting a good example. I even used to be a member of the guild!

I'm sure we are not the only crafting profession with this problem. As an example, I also do some Arch work with an alt, and so I watch their board too. Coincidence?

To be honest, until I started crafting, while I never was so rude as to whin, complain, insult crafters, I did often wonder why so many things cost as much as they do... everyone should have to be a crafter at some stage in their SWG careers, there would probably be a lot fewer complainers, once they figured out how much work crafting entails or the costs involved.Love it though I do, there is a lot of effort and skill to doing it right.

We've got a 12 point armorsmith in our PA that does a lot of RIS, and he's always having to ignore/ban people that are constantly asking for him to make them RIS stuff for ludicrously cheap prices or "Make me RIS right now plz" or having people asking for armor for free. I think about any crafting profession gets crap like this all the time.

I used to be a armorsmith many moons ago (business didnt go well and i went broke, but thats another story )
And let me tell you, the constant "Make me ub3r compo armor plz" tells gets kinda frustrating, so i dont believe chefs are the only ones. All crafters probably have to deal with annoying customers at some point in their career whatever they make, just like it can be in real life.

I've often wondered if it was just our profession that took the brunt of the rudeness. I do love the sense of entitlement people seem to have when they approach you. I get the "Can you give me some brandy," question while running through Coronet a lot too. There are times when I'll give something away, but NEVER because somebody asks for it, and I'm likely to put someone in their place when they *tell* me that I should do anything. <

Its not just Chefs. Saw this linked in the Architect forum, so came over and read it, and it reads the same as some of my own experiences just different names for what they want.

On that note ill share a story with you. I was off grinding TK before I went pure crafter, when I get a /tell from someone who wants to know if I can make furniture. I repsond that yes, in fact I *can* make furniture. She ( I assume it was a she, based on the name but you never know for sure) then tells me that she has a large budget of 200k to use to decorate her guild hall. I tell her that is wonderful and to please send me a list of what furniture she would like and if she wants any of it named specially etc.

That however wasnt good enough. She insisted that I stop what I was doing and come to her guild hall right now, and make custom furniture on the spot. I am not a fashion designer. I am not an interior designer. These are personal choices that I made and I personally hate doing them. No order is too big or too small, no custom names are too outlandish, but I just hate standing around waiting for someone to figure out what they want to do with their house. I even go so far as to provide website addresses with pictures of all the furniture that I can make so that they can get an idea of what they want.

Back to my story. I politely told her that interior decorating was not a service that I offered, but would be more than happy to provide the furnitue. She promptly asked if I knew any other master arch's. I supplied several names of my collegues and thought that was the end of it. But no.

The very next day, the same person sends me a tell asking for the very same thing she asked for yesterday, but this time has more money to play with. I give her the same response as the first time.

The third day, repeat of the first two, except with yet more money. /sigh

Finally on the 4th day, she sends me a tell asking for a guild hall!!!! Meaning that she didnt even have the hall to decorate in the first place. And then wants it for about 100k less than I was willing to sell.

In the end, after a few more days of her saving her credits she was able to buy one of my halls at a slightly reduced price (more cause by now it was clear that she was noobish, but equally because she was irritating the hell out of me) and I have never seen her again. Thank goodness.

Weaponsmiths or Armorsmiths don't get this kind of attitude do they? Its just us lucky Chefs.

Yes, we Weaponsmiths have to put up with the same things you do.

Update: The guy I mentioned in my first post sent me an e-mail yesterday that went a little something like this:

"I need that snowcake by MONDAY!!!"

That's it. End of e-mail. As if he'd put in a special rush order with me or something. Nevermind the fact that I told him the first time that I was waiting on additives to be finished and that I wasn't able to craft anything until they were finished (ok, admittedly not the complete truth, because I *was* waiting on additives, but I also didn't appreciate his "you're my bi*ch, so make it now" attitude so much that I wasn't willing to use the additives that I did have lying around).

There's definitely a line that needs to be drawn with "the customer is always right" philosophy. I worked in retail as a kid, and I can tell you that regardless of how good a customer is, once a line has been crossed, they won't be allowed back. Then again, I don't know if I'm just being too sensitive about common courtesy or if I'm picking up right right vibe. At any rate, I'll give it one more shot, but 3 strikes and he's out.
