Thread: Discussion: Should food be required?

Required, no. But our food should be improved so that it at least is useful for players.

My food's benefitlasts only a few minutes, and then is gone. It's not as good a benefit as spices or a doctor's buffs, so guess where players' money goes? Not to me, that's for certain.

We also could use better handling in the bazaar. Why are our products hidden away in Misc? They deserve their own category - Food - and they deserve to not be mixed in with spices. SOE needs to change this, because I'm tired of my good food not selling simply because people view them at the same time as themore effectivespices...

Nah, while it's realistic that food is required (we have to eat and drink already in real life!), it's a pain, and things like perma-death or any sort of negative to your character for not doing it shouldn't be implemented.

However, I am a strong believer that if they fix this class, people will not only search for food, they will crave it, whether they need it or not.

After reading all of the problems in all of the class boards...I feel it's going to be a long time that we're all paying to beta test. No, don't require food. Make it highly worthwhile to use it.

My thought has always been taht food is optional, but if you decide to forego food, you should be adversely affected becuase of it. Say in the form of slower regens, slower running etc. Also, duration of the buffs should match the duration that the item remains on the food/bar in your character screen.

No...not required, but important enough that most people would want it.

I think this will come when/if (hopefully when) they increase the stats/duration of our food.

Agreed, if they don't make people want it (fix buffs and durations), then the only thing they could do is force people to want it.

I agree, do not make food or drink mandatory. Fix the marketplace listing issue, fix milk, and either increase our food buffs or increase the duratrion of these buffs. Those are the changes I'm hoping for.

No way, they will all come around. Increase durations, allow food to be almost as powerful as spices but with no ill effects (with a lot of experimentation, of course). Add a high level mind food at master level so that people don't max out at mix II / cooking IV.

No. Food should not be required.

The buff timers on food though should be extended a great deal though as many spices outlast food buffs.

As it is today, it is almost as if people are snorting coke in the morning before work instead of having a balanced breakfast and are being more productive to boot with little to no side effect. Almost like the early 80's.

Increasing buff timers on food will keep both spices and food/drink as viable products.

I didn't know that SWG chefs could craft Metamucil... .

I play PvE casually and have never thought to go to a chef for anything; I guess I just don't know what they do. So it'd be good to force people to eat sometimesto reduce some Hunger counter, linked to how much Action you've used since you last ate. (Similar to Battle Fatigue which gets higher as your fight other creatures). You could never die from it, but letting it go way too long could be really stat-disabling.

I'd be careful to avoid a Nethack type hunger system, where you had to keep eating every few steps or you'd die.

Ok, food shouldn't be required, but it would be good if some of the food items worked as well as the DRUGS!!!! I mean, just yesterday I saw someone at the bazaar terminal talking to a friend about how he was back to get more spice (?) because it is so good at helping him take out the Tusken Raiders! And just take a look at how many dancers and entertainers are 'puking' at the cantina!

I know that the puking and drastic stat reduction are the consequence of using the drugs - but c'mon! Are you telling me that there is NO HEALTHY WAY TO BE A BODYBUILDER????

There should at least be certain COMBOS of food that would do what the drugs do - without the nasty effects..... (of course with limits like completely filling your food bar and keeping it full for way past the duration of the effects or something.....)

As a Novice Chef my vote on the mandatory food issue is a No....

Food was designed to be a buff (stat increase) and it would divert valuable programming/designer time that needs to be spent on stability and bug issues right now. Not to mention that Food is valuable in the game, not many people realize what big difference food items can make at this point but given time they will. And soon you will see that like many of the people I adventure with they will see the benefit of having those stat increases during fights with tough mobs.

I am a Pikeman/Chef and my focus has been on the combat end of things, I travel with a Novice Doctor/Combat Medic, a Fencer and a Tera Kasi (sp) and with healing available for Health and Action bars we find that our only limitation is that Mind hits take their toll. I have my friends all hooked like crack fiends on my Experimented Ruby Kool Aid (Ruby Beil is it?). RIght now it is a niche market but they are sending me customers, and I sell as much of the stuff as I can make when I am not out adventuring/grinding.

i vote no as well.. HOWEVER.. food needs to be much more APPEALING... our foods don't compare to spices in terms of buffs. and most of the upper lvl stuff have huge negatives as awell and don't last nearly as long as any spice.

Ok....One or two people suggested I put it in the report, I just wanted to see if a majority felt that way...and obviously they don't.

And I do agree, buffs need to be a lot more powerful for chefs.
