Thread: Discussion: Should food be required?
Should people be required to eat and drink, or should it be non-mandatory like it is now.
Personally, I go with non-mandatory...but if enough people want it I will make it an issue with the developers.
Don't waste your time bringing it up with the developers yet, there are far more pressing issues to be delt with.
But I, like any other self respecting chef should, thinkat anything that makes us more important to the game is a good thing. As such, yes food should be mandatory.
simply put, I would prefer people wanting food and drink (enhancement of product a bigger issue). Nobody has to wear armor, own a weapon, buy designer clothes, have a house, own a droid, ect. why make them have food & drink...too EQish for me.

I say no - it food is required, it will be a CDEF-style problem - low level artisans will continually flood the market with 10cr Bofa Treats, and the good food will be lost in the mix.
If people are forced to eat, they will merely go for the lowest common denominator. Making the buffs strong and long-lasting is a much better solution, in my opinion. Food that gives an hour or two-hour buff would be seen as 'mandatory' for the heavy hitters.
Food is supposed to be for the best-of-the-best: Until you are top-of-the-line, money can (and should, in my opinion) be spent on weapons and armor. The only way to do better than the best equipment, though, is with food buffs. That is wherethe Chef comes in. We feed the people who have maxed out their current area, and are levelling to the next.

Heck yes, with the risk of permadeath if you go without food...
side thought:
Also Spice should be horribly addictive requiring more and more spice to get the effect. And going with out a hit causes a semiperment hit on stats till you "detox"
Detox could be provided by a doctor..
Or a cheaper method would be to drink a particular alcohol, but that will addict you too, but not be as damaging...
food is already required by a vast amount of players. I have been cought up in the armor stat bug for weeks now. I see my regular chef almost daily in order to keep my stats regular.
For those that dont know what im talking about here is an example.
I die or get incaped wearing armor. I remove the armor and my stats reflect armor penalties even though im in my tshirt and boxers.
I can not wear armor due to not being healthy enogh. a K18 ration or a tatooine sunburn later my stats adjust and im set ... until my next incap or death ...
Market yourself. With a bugged class and tons of others bugged classes. Use your skill to help us others lol.
The bug mainly effects the regen stats on me. The stamina, focus, const ... those you cant fix with foraged food.
I would have to say no to this one.

But more importantly it will set a dangerous precedent. Today food is required, tomorrow ammo is required, the day after maintanence on weapons/armor required, etc etc.
Yes I know since things are quite "optional" in this game, the reason why people will eventually buy our stuff is because of positive reinforcement. You don't get any penalty for not doing it but you get either some benefit or a huge benefit from doing it. Thusly, the reason why people will eventually go for those benefits is because they want to be "the best" in whatever field(s) they are in.
Yeah it's tempting to make it mandatory since right now we're not that important but think long or even medium term. Eventually they'll fix us and eventually people will wise up and find that our buffs stack with every other good buff out there (spice/doctor). When they improve our food, either duration or quality/effectiveness(I prefer this), then people will buy our stuff in droves, I mean look at the Tat. Sunburn! Imagine if they at least put some other foods that somewhat come close to that, we'd all have a nice market to cater to.
And yes I know the economy kind of sucks since too much money is coming in and not enough is leaving the game, but eventually they'll think of something. With less "nerfs" going in and more "positive reinforcements" or suggestions, we can deal with whatever flaws that come in whilest leaving out the nerfs, that ultimately hurt us all (because it sets a dangerous precedent. Devs resort to nerfing because they see no other way to satify the customers AND balance the game out. NO to NERFS! NONO NO). This is harder but the rewards will be greater for you, me, and all of us in the end. I mean look at EQ. Even though money flow was still very slow, there's still craploads of it floating around. And they still nerf that game lots, albeit they also bump or beef it up too, but every nerf sucks. I don't want this game to resort to EQ-like mentalities. It'll just wind up like EQ in space an that would piss me off so much.
