Thread: This is unreal...never thought that THIS would happen part#2

Since I happen to have a master smuggler, yes, I know about it. Perhaps you can tell us just exactly how many smugglers need to come here and whine before we are allowed to say smugglers come and whine? There have been more than one. No I didnt bother to count them, and Im really not interested in wasting my time to do so. Ive responded to a couple previously and some I didnt bother with. Whether its 5 or 50, they are still representatives of the smuggler community. The fact that there are probably 3-4 times (or most likely more) smugglers than chefs means that only a very very tiny portion of the smuggler community needs to voice that opinion and the chefs are overwhelmed simply because we dont have the same numbers in our community. In addition to the posts Ive seen here, Ive also met this opinion in game. I cant say that I agree that a class that can fight as well as slice should be able to buff better than a class that can only buff. It isnt logical (well at least not to me).

Im sorry that you are upset that some chefs feel they are being harassed unfairly by some smugglers, but the simple fact is that it is true. It may not be the opinion of every smuggler, but it doesnt change the fact that we are still hearing it (as are the devs obviously). Chefs have always been one of the most broken professions in the game. We have never gone around crying nerf (ok maybe we did when Doc buffs were added and they were far superior yet docs did other things other than buff, obviously we were ignored then as usual). But I dont ever recall seeing chefs start hate mongering about other professions. We've been through several other professions coming into our board and attempting to incite basically riots here tho. We've had other professions come in here before and be so revulsive that other members of their own profession have come behind them and apologized. We are really more interested in cheffing than hate mongering amongst professions. Would that we could say the same about all professions.

I am not upset that some chefs feel that they are being harassed by some smugglers. I have no doubt that it is true. Every profession has it share of jerks and my profession is no exception. What I DO have a problem with is talking about smugglers as a "class" when the poster is only talking about some smugglers.

I also find it kind of amusing that some of the chefs think that smugglers have this huge influence over the devs. Smugglers have been largely ignored since the beginning of the game (expect for our own nerfs) and I highly doubt that a few smugglers asking for a nerf on the chef boards changed anything. If the devs really listened to smugglers, we would have had something to smuggle before now and our revamp would have come long before the chef revamp because we are more numerous.

This ill will between the professions doesn't help anybody. We all want our professions fixed.

Oh, and to the person who said to stay off your boards, guess what I'm doing with the rest of my skill points?

I gotta agree with this. I saw a lot of smugglers express concerns about how our new buffs will effect theirs. But that is reasonable. We did the same thing when entertainers got their new buffs. I think that they don't had anything to worry about, and that the effects the chef buffs would have on their market would have been barely noticable...but it is still a valid reason for some concern.

And while I did see a lot of concern, I only saw a few calls for nerfs. I did see some calls to make spice better to compete...but not really calls for nerfs. And as far as the smuggler correspondent goes, he kept reminding the developers to keep things balanced but never pushed for a nerf or anything.

I don't blame this on the smugglers at all. And if some of them demanded nerfs...I really don't think it effected anything.

Nikki,

So how many smugglers are we talking about anyway that come to these boards and cry nerf? I bet it isn't many and I don't think that they represent the views of the smuggler community. The original poster labeled a whole class based on the actions of a few when he said,"it really takes alot of nerve for a class such as smuggler to come into our boards and cry NERF THE CHEFS". Notice that he said "a class such as smugglers" and not "some smugglers". Since he decided to represent my profession in such a way (and you apparently agree with him), I would like to see the evidence of the smuggler community(not a few random members)calling for the nerf of the chef. Evidently, there must be post after post on the smuggler boards that I missed while I was busy "skimming them" and not actually reading them.

Threads like this one only lead to more bad feelings between the professions. Smugglers as a community don't have anything against chefs and are more concerned with getting their own profession fixed rather than nerfing someone else's. Don't believe me, take a look on the smuggler boards sometime.

I don't think its any ill will towards chefs, it's just a case of bad timing. Some smugglers, like myself, are crafters at heart (let me tell you how unfun having two combat lines to get non-combat abilities is ). As a crafter I was very gung ho about the Chef revamp, and still for the most part am. My other profession is DE, and let me tell you any improvement to a crafting class helps us all.

Now to the timing issues. I don't think you would see this frustration as much if the chef revamp came in publish 5 or 7. Its the fact that this revamp is coming right as the crackdown comes out. Its giving spice an additional penalty associated besides the downer, and giving what people see as a better alternative on the same day. Now I can't speak for other smugglers besides those I know, but the info in the friday feature causes spice sales for me to plummet. I used to move crates of spice at 8-10k a crate which is below market for Naritus. Since the friday feature i have gone from selling many crates a day to zero. ZERO crates this whole week on a planetary adv. vendor next to a city shuttle. Now I underdstand that this means more buisness to you guys, and for me that is really cool, but I've switched to selling resources because spice isn't going to be used, heck I pulled up my factory since I didn't have a use for it anymore. Spice is fast becoming another usesless line needed to gain master for a few incentives.

Again, sorry, this totally isn't your problem and just an apology for those attacks that have and may come, and letting you know why this anger is being misplaced at chefs instead of where it should go, at the pace of development. Imagine if you had an update where doctors could sell portable buffs for skills (your new gem that i am really excited about) and in the same publish decided that people would be shot by stormies or fined for carrying any of your skill boost food.

And just a personal reflection on Smuggler's Delight (which is the ultimate in name irony considering this issue ), why would anybody use a food that reduces a downer if it takes up space that could be used for a buff that lasts longer then the spice and downer combined?

The best stat buffs we have right now are drinks, and go into the drink bar. Smuggler's delight is a food and goes into the food bar. You can fill up on drinks and still have room for smuggler's delight.

sorry, I thought that the food/drink bar was being removed for one combined bar in this publish. Did this change or did I just read the test center incorrectly?

This is a rumor that I have no idea where this came from. This has never been discussed to my knowledge, and there are still two bars and it will remain that way. Taking that away would be the biggest nerf to chefs possible and you would be hearing me scream and rant up and down the boards if that happend. So if I am this calm, you know that isn't true.

There are two bars, and two bars it will remain.

Actually, you know what this is? There is a new window that shows what food buffs you currently have active, and eventually it will show spice and medical buffs too. But this is completely different from the filling bars.

You know, this is the first thread I've actually seen where this topic has come up. Maybe I've missed it on both the chef and smuggler forums, and since I'm a novice chef and a former smuggler I read both rather extensively.

It's funny, isn't it, how nobody seems to have a link to the myriad of "nerf chef" threads despite the numerous requests for the links. Instead the mature responses have been:
Just leave our boards, okay? You really have no business here if what you say above is true. Go back to your smuggler boards and take the rest of the trolls with you.
Real mature.

Yet why is it the only flame post I can find on either the chef or smuggler forums is this one? Point one out. I challenge you. Just one link! I want to see the hordes of trolls crying nerf, because it just isn't visible here or on the smuggler forum.

There are going to be bad apples in every community, and I'm sure there are some smugglers who are causing problems. But please don't lumpthewhole classin with the rest and I won't take espo and the writer of the above quote as representative of the chef community, okay?

Chefs are finally getting the fixes they need, and I'm happy about that. But please understand the concern of the smugglers who have ONE spice out of 15 that actually sells (Muon Gold - and demand just hit minimal with the crackdown coming), who are frequently left out of the combat profession debates because they're "not a combat profession." I think the smuggler community has every right to feel frustrated by developments as well.

This isn't a "who started it" post. It's a "please provide proper facts" post.

My 2 bits about this is that the chefs and smugglers and doctors and entertainers should realize that they are going to ALL be picked by the savy combattant. Reguardless who's buffs the strongest, they all stack for gods sake! I dunno about you, but I get buffed from all sides before I head out to the advanced planet. There are crates of brandy AND muon with me... heh!
