I dont agree that not integrating all the crafters skills was a bad idea for JTL...I play a chef alt, a jedi and a TKM/swordsman...I have to say that its nice to finally have a part of the game...where you dont have to get buffs, you dont have to have "the perfect template" you dont have to eat food for defenses and buffs...you can just walk into the starport...take off...and be in another "world" for a while without caring what else happens.
Business was slow after launch....but sales are picking back up, I think the correspondant is correct...things will eventually even themselves out as people have interest returned to more than just flying around. Its new, exciting....but everyone will probably play more time onteh ground than in a ship given enough time, there is just more to do.
Another benefit of non-piloting skills not affecting space...is that if you allowed the chefs/artisans/docs the ability to have a large impact on space...then the combat professions and everyone else would want the same thing...and that would ruin the whole idea of JTL for me. I like a nice even playing ground.

I don't mind chefs or docs not being part of JTL. I expected this and completely agree with you that it is nice to have an area of the game that doesn't require 20-30 minutes of prep time before starting out.
Maybe more ties with space will come with in the future. Right now its fairly obvious that JTL is completely separate from the ground game(combat and crafting aspects). I would love to see the ability for boarding parties on ships. There are minor overlaps, like being able to decorate my ship with furniture. The separation is may be good or bad to any person.

I'm going to wait a few weeks to let the "new ship smell" wear off of JTL before making any conclusions.
Although I'm looking at it this way: slower sales = less work required manufacturing food = more time "appropriating" insufficiently protected freighters for the Smuggler's Alliance...
If sales are slowing down, ramp back your factories once you get to a good level of stock. I know I"m using this break to get caught up on some lower-demand items that I haven't been able to restock due to tieing up my factories with Brandy/Ahrisa/Vercupti. Then take a quick vacation, try out piloting (if you got JTL), try some theme parks, etc. Unless you're still buying resources/tissues at your previous rate (a bad idea if you don't have the sales to support it) I doubt we're at a point where we're actually losing money.

I'll be honest ... I have been falling off myself since JTL. Im not even sure how my sales are doing, cuz I can't stay out of space. I havn't made new foods since JTL came out, im totally addicted. I was sure I would hate JTL too.... go figure. I must be doing descent cuz I have been buying ship stuff left and right and my money is almost always the same at the end of the day.

I just found a post in my tailor forums. I guess other tailors' sales are sinking too. WIth time, I think it'll go back up though

My sales have probably dropped off by 50% since JTL came out. It's nothing that has me worried as it's giving me a nice break from crafting and allowing me more time for JTL.

same, with roughly the same figures - i'm still selling to guildmates, as some are in europe = no JTL, but it's funny that basically the only thing i've sold to non-guildies is ormachek, and i'm not sure if that even works with JTL
i expect sales to pickup once the novelty has worn off (and i've made enough that i'm not too concerned about money), but it's just kind of a bummer, as i love my craft and hate to see others not paying me to keep on with it

Sales are down a bit, but seem to be picking up some. This gives us the perfect opportunity to stock up on supplies for when the newness of JTL wears off. Personally, I love the fact that my chef/tailor character can now participate in combat. She was such a wimp before. She now has a spaceship and can fight her own battles, just like her rifleman/doc alt.
