Thread: How much difference is there between a 10 point and 12 point Chef?

I guess I'd sum up the difference between a 12 point and a 10 point master chef as about 10% in price. You will be able to hit the same maxes on nutritional value for almost all foods, but will often have slightly less duration, slightly higher filling, or less item counts per stack. Most buyers will not even notice the difference, but folks that consumer large amounts of food, or are very serious about PVP will go to a 12 point in some cases in order to get the slight edge that a 12 point chef's food will provide. I'd suggest making up for it, by appealing to the market with a slightly better price in order to still make a reasonable profit for food offered.

Getting the tapes to become a 12 point costs millions and most everyone has to start out at 10 point selling foods. In order to be competitive, sell at a moderate discount from chefs you know are 12 point and compare your foods to see how yours are stacking up and price accordingly. My $.02

"5. Ahrisa – 33% filling, 300+ to focus, duration"

This was the only one I would probably disagree with. 33% filling is a must, but I also believe the same rules apply here as they do on Brandy. 33% filling 44-45 minutes I think is a must. When I go only other servers I know I want 44+ minutes. Its not as critical as brandy, but I would put duration as more important than the buff size. If someone isn't going to stack 3 of these, they probably don't need 33 filling. If they are stacking 3, they probably want a constant buff and be able to eat 3 right when the buffs wear off.

You are absolutely right Numen. I've tested different combinations of mind buffs and I've settled on 2 Brandy + 3 Ahrisa and after being frustrated with trying to keep the focus buff consistent with the Ahrisa...I went and made the 44 min stuff. Now when both buffs run out - I can eat 2 Brandy + 3 Ahrisa at the same time rather than monitoring when the next time is that I can eat an Ahrisa...usually I only notice it when my mind bar starts to drop dramatically...usually by that time, it's too late.

good suggestion - I've updated my post above and redisplayed below to reflect the new order of importance for Ahrisa:

(musings from an 11 point chef

Here's a list I try to go by. I did some research on what people are looking for and what buffs and durations I REALLY had to meetin order for a food to be useful: ("had to meet" values are highlighted in yellow, the secondary things I look at are highlighted in tan, third in importance is highlighted in pink. If there are no highlighted values...it's basically a "toss up" meaning the players don't agree in mass about a specific attribute for this food - so do what you like with it basically):

1. Synthsteak - 40% damage reduction, for 38 attacks, 25% filling
2. Air Cake - 35% dodge, duration,
11% filling
3. Canape - 33% filling, 600/700+ to Focus and Willpower ( some players want 33% fill - some want bigger buff to f/w)

4.Vercupti - 67% filling, 1100+ to Health and Action and Willpower ( some players want 67% fill so they can eat something that's 33% with it - others don't care since the filling is so high anyway, they prefer the bigger buff)
5. Ahrisa – 33% filling, 44 min duration, 350+ to focus <---updated per Numen'spost
6. Brandy - 45 min, 50% filling,
380/400+ to Mind and Focus and Willpower ( Uber players prefer the 45+ min brandy regardless of the buffdue to the ability to immediately drink another brandy when the buff runs out.A bigger buff brandy that's less than 45 minutes causes the dangerous "delay in drinking" another brandy...this delay could cost a PvP'er his/her life in a tough battle)
9. Thakitillo – 99% Def.vs.KD, 9-10 minutes, 44% filling
10. Pikatta Pie – 50% Dodge, 33% filling, duration
11. Blue Milk - 33% Filling, 680+ Mind
12. Havla – 100 recovery bonus (anything under 100 doesn't benefit the user), 24/26 heals (hit an even number since the heals are bugged. 24 =12 heals, 26 = 13 heals. 25 will get you 12.5 heals - but the .5 is useless),
33% fill
13. Citros Snowcake - +40 accuracy bonus, duration, 25% fill (there's rumor of a cap at 30, it's never been proved from what I can tell. Continue to try to hit high accuracy bonus in the meantime.)

14. Parwan Nutricake – 52+% HAM reduction, 90+% recovery bonus (results in 5 continuous burst runs), 25% fill

I'm rushing while doing this - so I may need to edit it. (and please correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above!) And by all means, this isn't set in stone...this is just what I've gathered from the boards of what people look for in food. (i.e. 45 minute brandy is sooo much more worth it than 41 minute brandy. keep the buff between 380 and 400 and you should be good. +/- 20 in buff isn't going to matter...whereas not being able drink another brandy for another 4 MINUTES could really matter) As an 11 point chef, I can get to 45 minutes and 50% filling and sell my 380+ brandy no problem.

Some foods you HAVE TO REACH a certain minimum or else they don't work (bah)...see Havla.

I need this list cuz I'm only an 11 point chef. Though I can't achieve UBER food...i.e. double buff vercupti...I can still sell what's needed. Uber is sometimes overkill - it is not true that you can't make good food without 12 points. Just work hard to get good resources and use bespin port and craft in research cities when you can and you should be just fine.

but to do max duration max stack and near max nutrition you have to have nearly perfect resources and 12 points.

my 1070 49 fil vercupti took me months of trial and error, waiting for right spawns, and i finally got over the 1000 mark when i got 11 points, then 1070 when 12.

also if you want to try and get a amazing assembly and then at least a 7 point amazing nutrition it may bump up the food max,ive had that happen several times, but it never repeats when you want it too lol

lol, yeah it's funny how those amazings never come when you really need them!

At this point, I've decided that I'm a business person first, and an artist second. I don't really have any interest in trying to beat records to compete with other Chefs. I just want to sell as much food as I can and from what I've seen the last month or so, most people aren't paying attention to all the food stats. They're happy if they if they can find a vendor that's consistently stocked with the good foods that they're looking for. I can totally understand this because personally I absolutely hate shopping around only to find empty vendor after empty vendor. If I find someone that sells good quality items and always seems to have the stuff I want, I'm a customer for life. I'm sure I'm not alone which is why I always keep that in mind when I'm stocking my own vendors...

I agree totally.

I have been trying to buy equipment to get my Chef character cooking (no pun intended). I must have gone through ten vendors to only find one that had what I was looking for. The rest were either empty or had one or two useless items. At that point I was ready to pay three-times the asking price to just get what I wanted. Now the guy that hadwhat I needed is in my data pad for next time.

Now with this point thing, I think I need to cook hard and fast to earn some credits to get me some points. It sounds like a good investment.

I agree with both of the above.

I do make sure my first 7 block experimentation (almost always to buff size) is an "Amazing Success" but that's about it.

I actually intentionally price my goods somewhat ABOVE average to ensure that my vendors are always well stocked. I don't aim to sell the most quantity-wise, simply to make the most money.

Am I evil for being so "greedy"? Maybe.

No, you're not greedy! I've been crafting (various professions) for about 9 months now and believe me, it hasn't been all that exciting for quite some time. The only reason I stick with it is because I'm addicted to credits. For me, Chef is just a means to an end -- it's the easiest way for me to make massive amounts of money for as little work as possible!

I mastered chef a few weeks ago and have seen my bank balance sky rocket. The demand for food is plenty high enough for the difference in 10 and 12-point quality to be negligible. Despite having two shops that sell well I can still shift a crate of brandy or canape on the bazaar (split obviously to separate items) each day. Thats 25 items a day at 6k each - thats a side income of 150 k a day. I fill orders regularly and can clear 10 -15 crates of+410 brandy with a 49 fill a week from one vendor alone. and this is the 35min stuff. I am now an 11 pointer and the change is nice but not significant to earn me millions more. I think the point here is that as a profession we are lucky in that the demand is high and the competiton is light...certainly comapred to other professions. Really the big key is becoming a master chef - getting to 12 points will give you bragging rights and the ability to cater to the top-end pvp ers - but in terms of raw credits just keep an eye on the resource stats and a 10-pointer can still make a fortune.

I am sure there will be those who disagree but in my casewhile i wasa 10 pointer i hit a couple of million just looking at my ingredients carefully and you simply can't argue with that. Catering to the uber players will come in time, but unless a lot of chefs start appearing a thorough 10 pointer will do very nicely.

And on a final note - keep the cost realistic. My brandy goes for 100k and the canape (+719 38 Fill) goes for 125k. It means i sell a lot. Plain and simple.

The only time you notice the difference between a 10 and 12 point crafter of any type is when the same resources are used. A 12 point chef with decent resources will only be able to maybe match the a 10 point chef with excellent resources.

I agree. I don't want to make a trip and find nothing there.
