prototype sunburn slinger here. i'm not budging in the skill tree until chef is redone. 'til then i'm sitting on a number of choice sunburn crates my houses? all packed up... the stuff burning on the horizon? my factories. punk npc vendors with nothing to look at but me?pulled theirplug. i'm just waiting.

I try only to take one advanced order at a time, make as much of a full schem as I can of that order, then sell off the excess. While I'm hawking my wares (no vendors at the moment), I usually receive a request for another order in advance.

Pester your guild to help with resources and lots. Mine's always been very willing to help out, especially if it doesn't mean they have to actually go to the factory/harv to take care of it.

I also give special deals to people that bring me resources. Half off a crate of ice blasters if you give me 10k high grade flowers, etc. People charge way more for resources than it costs them to harvest, assuming they aren't putting down harvs on 20% concentrations, and I usually refuse to buy for any more than 3cpu for average quality.

This isn't just with Chef, I also havean architect/weaponsmith I do this with. It usually works out fine, as long as you don't accept so many orders that your brain fizzles when you even think about it.

I've noticed some people also take on apprentices to handle their components and lower level orders. It's usually the very rich, accomplished crafters that do this though.
