Thread: Changes on the horizon....
I guess those "leaked" descriptions on the Starter Kit (release date showing at most places as Nov 22nd) with the "smoother help through the first 30 levels" weren't so wacky...
don't have to put too much effort to learn the complicated game SWG once was

Umm, looks like that "6 months" was way out of line.

That date just makes you go hmmm... doesnt it.
I cant believe they are pushing something this big out so quickly, its unheard of in the gaming world

I've seen rumors (haven't traced them back to any specific dev posting, so take with a grain of salt), that something for this has been in the works since JTL.
On the one hand, that could just mean that ideas for the original CU (which was being worked on at about that time) were picked back up for NGE. On the other.....well, write your own conspiracy theory. The SOE devs threw together a half-baked CU just to get it out of their hair, since they knew this was coming down the line anyway. LucasArts did a "commando raid" on the SWG code, putting together this revamp then shoving it down SOE's throat, invalidating all the work the SOE devs had been doing on CU, CH revamp, etc. George Lucas, Bill Gates, Elvis, and Howard Hughes all got together and coded up NGE over a weekend.
Don't forget that there are two big companies involved with SWG, each with access to it's own development teams. This could be a project solely from LucasArts, delivered to SOE and told to implement it "or else". IIRC, LA handles the marketing / distribution of the game, so that leaked stuff a month or so ago on Amazon, buy.com, etc about the starter kit must've come from them.
