Ah, wait.. sorry Felzors. I hadn't realized you were still at Domestic IV. Boy, are you in for a treat at Novice Chef.

Hehe yea, I was just about to say that I was DA IV, but then I saw your last post.

It's that bad, huh? We'll see

Believe me, I'll do anything NOT to grind, so I hope I can make it at least to the next Chef skill box without grinding.

Today I decided that I would finally achieve Novice Chef after having a pleasant time selling Domestic IV goods to people in town and on the bazaar, so I began crafting and reached the 19,200 General Crafting Experience needed to start my trade. After getting that I ran around town for an hour to find a trainer. I could not find one at all and I looked everywhere, so I flew to another city on my planet and began to hunt. After some time of looking I checked these boards and was assured that there was a Chef Trainer in the town I was looking for; after a few more minutes of looking I discovered him and made the plunge to Novice Chef.

I had read a lot of posts about the horrible problems with Chefs and all the difficulty they have, and so far my in-game experiences did not match theirs so I braced myself for some slight disappointment, but nothing so severe that would stop my daily cooking/mixing. I'm not the type to be put down by a challenge so I figured I could handle any shortcomings the Chef profession had. After crafting all of my new Novice Chef dishes I was greatly disappointed. I felt like someone had punched me in the gut. My Domestic Arts III and IV dishes/drinks are vastly superior to what I can now make. I cannot reasonably experiment on the dishes because they now take Food Experimentation and Food Assembly instead of the General Crafting Experience and Assembly I had relied on before.

I will have to continue to make my Starshine Surprises, Ruby Bliels, and Teltier Noodles to sell to people for their benefit, while crafting my new Novice Chef dishes to skill up on and destroy. I cannot honestly sell customers my lesser goods (which I need to make to increase my Chef skill) when I know I have Noodles and Surprises that would benefit them much more.

I'm hoping that I am just not noticing something and that someone will tell me I've got the wrong outlook and that there is a way to make Novice Chef work, but from reading other people's experiences I think I'm up a creek without a paddle. I'm not a power gamer in the least and I had fun selling my dishes as I made them and stocking the bazaar with good food and drinks that people bought. I just don't have the time to run missions to make money to operate the harvesters I willrequire to harvest the resources I will need to craft my Novice Chef goods just to destroy. On the upside, I guess I'll only really need the 2 ingredients it takes to make that Wastril Bread so I hopefully will only require the use of a couple harvesters for a few days and then be done with them.

I want to sell my food/drinks, not just Assemble->Right-Click->Destroy(2)

That hurts myself, and even more importantly to me, the other players that want to buy respectable food and drink! Yesterday I was enthusiastic about becoming a Novice Chef. I'm not enthusiastic anymore.

Your not up the creek without a paddle, you are in white water withouta raft. I do have to say though, this game Alt + Tabs out really nice, so while I am sampling my butt off I am making spread sheets of data on my food, what prices I want to sell for and posting in these forums. I'm sampling as we speak.

Yeah I have my harvesters running 24/7 to stack up on resources just in case they change the chef system in the near future.

Hey rebel soldier please, post how the food in desert 2 looks. I'm training mixology 2 tonight. Corsses my fingers it has items better than dom 4.

Felzor i agree i hate grinding. If you had trouble selling food, wait till novice chef, the food gets worse. I made wastril bread and sold backpacks of the stuff to get through it. But other than that i had to grind, aswell as mix 1, bantha blasters are nice, but the wooley hide ingredient makes them expensive to make.

Oh dear, oh dear. I am so keen, nay was very keen, to be a chef but from what I have read here I have now totally lost my enthusiasm.

*sigh*

Slamma -- dont feel bad about selling people food/drink from Novice Chef. Knowing what foods/stats do in this game is so complex that most people wont be able to tell or care that your Novice Chef foods are inferior to Dom 4 foods.

I still make a few Dom 4 items but justsoI have some variety on my vendor.

By the way, one way to ease the pain of grinding up the chef tree is to couple this profession with merchant. Merchant experience is much faster in my opinion, and you get to do other things (managing your inventory, advertising your vendor) so that you aren't always focused on the ridiculous chef grind.
