Thread: Ahhh.. the massive grind of the Chef

Ok.. so getting to Novice Chef was a pretty solid grind, but I was able to skill up a bit and have fun at the same time by playing bartender. Sell some Jawa Beers, make some XP, sell some Starshine, make some XP, and makea few bucks along the way.

Now at Novice Chef the foods and drinks available seem to be LESS desireable than what I can makeas a Homemaker (Domestic IV skilled). Everyone in the Cantinas want Teliter Noodles, Starshine Surprise, Jawa Beers, or Ruby Bliels. I don't blame 'em either when I look at the stat boost (if their actually using it for that) bonuses between Novice Chef and Artisenomestic items. On top of that It's 32K to the 1st tier of chef skills. Making Wastril Breadat 70XP a pop thats going to mean 458 loaves of bread that are just going to be destroyed. Wheee!

Another way to look at it is 16k grain units (and I thought I had a lot stockpiled at 11k) and a little under 5k fruit units. Thats a brutal amount of resources. Then once I get there I'm looking atbig credits to spendfor training.

Is this on par with other classes? I know at least an armorcrafter would have better luck SELLING the items their using to skill up on. Is there an easier way? Is there a reasonable Novice Chef item that might be marketable? Is all that Bread going to make me go blind? Am I missing something or is this right?

I've played DE & Architect in beta, and now chef in retail.

DE's get the MSE droid to make at novice, which is ~140 xp a pop @ 2xp per resource.
So, assuming you have the resources, it's not too bad a grind. Head to blueprints III & then make adv droid frames for 450xp a pop.

Architechts get large amounts of XP per item, but need to get masses of resources to do it. The upside is, you can make crafting stations early on for decent XP, or even houses.
Given help from friends/PA getting the resources, you can level at a reasonable level.

The bonus to the above professions is UXP. Their 150% UXP goes on their adv craft lines.

Chef's UXP is broken, and devs dont appear to take notice unless you shout and spam a lot in other forums.
On a 70XP item at novice, I get 2-3 XP each time someone eats my food, working out at about 10% UXP - which in itself is bad enough, but to make matters worse, ours goes on General Craft XP - pretty useless as Im a Master Artisan...

At Entree's II, the best item I can make gives 100XP, so ~180 items to Entree's III, where I HOPE (looking at other skill patterns), something better will appear.

After that, we have the problem of :
People don't realise what our food & drink do
People rarely buy the food, they expect it free
People that DO expect it at VERY low rates. Assume a bazaar price of 5cr per unit. Stewed Gwouch uses 50 units, provides ~4 edibles with experimentation. Thats 250c total cost, if I said to someone, sure have some food, its 300cr, they'll laugh at me. If Im lucky, people pay 50.
Milk & Eggs! I have found 3, yes ONLY 3, milk. This was on the bazaar @ 15cr. I need a minimum 15 to make a drink.

The devs have never ONCE answered a question on milk & egg availability, UXP issues etc.

Im not saying chef is the only grind craft. I know weaponcraft is aswell, but weaponsmiths sell their stuff

The day Holocron answers the chef's calls, is the day I'll stand naked in Bestine Cantina feeding the 5000

I'm just taking my time and enjoying myself with other skills when I get tired of making food.

If you sit there and grind like that and look at your exp bar and think "Wow only 348 more wastril breads til ding!" then you'll go crazy.

I think we all need to start making a little more recuss in the made swg discussion forum, I don't even think any dev's look at the chef forum. As said previously its not until we start screaming profanities at them do they take any notice what so ever. And as I feel, we are the last on the list of things to fix, if we are even on the list at all.

Why don't we put a PETITION together that addresses these issues, and keep it bumped on the main SWG forum until the DEvs either tell us to just suck it up and deal with it, or actually do something about our plight.

As it stands, Smuggler seems likely to be the replacement for the Chef if only for the ease, powerand availability of the spices they can craft.

If we make our voices loudly known,I think the Devs will take notice one way or another.

Hey can I have a note? If it deals AT ALL with hope for a Chef then please send it... I'm really disenchanted with what I thought was a great idea for a profession.

I have been posting all day with not 1 response from a dev, so now I am gonna post in any of the threads about chefs, so if people start complaining about whatever on the SWG forum, I will just add "HEY! Atleast you aren't a chef"

or in the "Any issues with todays patch" I added "yeah you didn't address any of the many chef issues"

They have to see me eventually!!!

Ive had it. I have been a novice chef now since about a week after launch. thats great Im really happy i got there so fast. But now with the 500 master architects running around im getting mad. Ive been working on chef non stop playing way too many hours a day and Im not even halfway to my first skill box. I got novice merchant today and I am now further up the merchant tree than i am the chef and ive only had it one day. The exp must be adjusted for chef. The DA 1 - 4 food and drink also must give chef exp instead of general.

Grinding is crazy. You WILL go crazy if you grind all day, and THAT is the quickest way to get bored of a game. Therefore, I refuse to grind. I may be struggling making money, I may be struggling selling my goods, but so I've made it to DAIV without grinding--and I planto make it to Master Chef without grinding, too.

GRINDING SUCKS--IT SHOULD BE BANNED, FOR THE SAKE OF THE PLAYERS.

If I may suggest... /bug every time you make something, give it to someone and they eat it all gone (I had thought that we don't get the UXP 'til the stack is finished, like with stimpacks) and the UXP isn't at least 20% of the craft XP. Fill up their bloody /bug mailbox with reports of busted UXP. Same with not being able to find milk or eggs.

Food not going towards Food Crafting XP and the Novice Chef recipes being **edit**e...dunno how to address that best, other than by posting everywhere under the sun 'til everyone knows Chefs are all whiners. =(
