j/k! yeah, the sorry state of chefs, BE's and DE's (I'm all three) plus the joke that is PvP (I've barely tried it, and already I see how hosed it is) has caused me to quit the game.

Yup miners and farmers were part of the artisan tree. They were the elite class at the top of the surveying line. Don't know much about it, but I know they were deleted because hardly anyone played them during beta. Benefits were diffused down to everyone so that everyone could use more than personal harvesters and certification for medium and heavy machinery was not necessary. I also heard something about "Creature Farms" from Beta, I have no idea what those really were cause I wasn't around then. But I'd betcha that's where we were supposed to get our milk from...

Um...milk doesn't come from farmers. Milk comes from female mammalian critters...and maybe farmers' wives?
