Well, publish 8 has been pushed to testcenter. You can see the patch notes here.

Nothing specifically for chefs, but here's hoping that some bug fixes show up. The new droid modules are looking nice, though, I'm going to see if I can try out the barker and survey tools.

And before you ask, barrels still don't work.

Historically they'll do bug fixes/additions/etc. during the next few weeks and add update notes periodically, so the current update notes are likely to change during the publish's stay on TC.

  • Added an Interplanetary Survey Droid - This droid is capable of using survey tools and traveling to other planets to report on the resources present on that planet.

  • Does this mean the droid will actually survey for a specific resource you program it to look for, with minimum spawn rates, or am I getting my hopes up too far?

Some of the early reports are that you get a list of resources available on the planet, just the names and types, no stats and no concentration waypoints.

That's really just speculation at this point, that module is bugged right now (although the DE correspondant has been reporting problems that other TC DE's aren't). I think waypoints would be a bit too much to expect, although there might be different missions you could send it on: all resources on the planet (no stats, no waypoint), a set of resources (like "vegetables") might get you stats, a particular resource might get you stats and a waypoint.

    Again, just speculation.

And FYI,a post by Runesabre did state that these are consumable, so one droidequalsone report and it's used up, kind of like the BH's tracking droids.

As a Master Chef. I see 2 things here that interest me greatly.

    1) Survey Droid. If all the droid did was return with what organics and their names (no stats or wp's) that would be very helpful. I would not have to run to planet x to see if my uber fruit shifted.

    2) Harvesting droids. More meat = less inventory problems.Nufsaid.My cousins, the BE's will also love this one.

    ON A SIDE NOTE:

I look forwward to the day when we can monitor ALL of our structures from one location. Like a master control station in our home. Just monitor, not adding power or maintenance etc. This way we could tell, and get warnings, if a structure across the galaxy is running low on energy. Not everyone uses 10 lots these days hehe

    Peace

What about the maintenance paying droid, so you can pay maintenance on harvesters remotely? I can't, can't, can't wait for that. MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And I pushed for the ability to monitor the harvesters. It may be a long time before we can see that. Right before I left correspondentI got into a discussion with the developers about this. It would require a major re-write of the engine to do this. It may happen someday but don't hold your breath.

Since they have the code in for harvesting droids, how about pushing for Milking ability

    Oh, and do barrels work

At some point I'll get to TC to level a chef, I've been hanging on for charcopy, but inthe time I've waited, I could have got to Master Chef 20 times over

    "

  • Added Creature Harvester Module to the DE skill tree: This module will allow any character to program and control an equipped droid to advance on the look-at target of the player and harvest the resources on the creature. The player can preset the droid to harvest one of the three types: meat, hide or bone. Or the player can just let the droid pick a random resource type. "

  • i think this will be a big boom to the chef/bio eng professions.. and could possibly reduce our shortage of meats,hides... now anyone with scout skills can harvest meat all night without doing the hard work of harvesting also all the xp grinders can get a harvestor droid and earn even more money while grinding out all them lairs....this might be our best benifit out of this publish..

Now that might actually be useful.

With the current implemetation of harvesting droids I just don't see how it is much of a benifit at least quantity wise.

This is my understanding of how it works. You target some corpse, give your droid a command and its goes and harvests. First of all if your grouped you will be getting less meat than if your solo. I find it hard to believe the droid gets your harvesting skill, something that will definatly be tested though. I also find it hard to believe that the person can then harvest the creature. Again something that will definatly be tested.

The only change I see is that I have to give the command to the droid now instead of saying a command that will make me harvest. 2 possible bonuses I see from this.

    1) Your a ranged attacker and the droid will go to the corpse to harvest.

    2) You can now harvest when your in combat. Your fighting and you can send your droid over to harvest a corpse.

2 I can see an advantage of, but I can't remember the last time a corpse disappeared on me when soloing. When grouped, droids will only cause more of an issue with them disappearing. #1 I don't know anyhting about. I haven't shot a gun in 3+ months so I never have to move to harvest a corpse.

Now if some of my assumptions are wrong(like double harvest being possible), it is definatly a good thing. I've just learned from past experience not to assume major changes from vague dev statements.

Good points, Numen. Some results from TC (testing done by the Ranger correspondant):

    1) You have to be within a certain range of the corpse for it to work (15-20m it sounds like)

    2) The droid counts as a harvest. I'm not sure if the droid was grouped or not, it may work like grouping with anotherscout (lower harvest numbers, but able to get multiple resources).

    3) The droid's harvesting modifier is based on both the owner's harvesting skill and the quality of the harvesting module. There's a bug with the TC code right now with that calculation, though, but it should be fixed with this afternoon's hotfix. It may even be possible (with a high-quality module) to harvest more than your normal amount (similar to veghash's harvest bonus). It may also be possible to have multiple harvesting modules in a single droid and have them stack (may take some time to test, the harv modules won't go in a cluster).

    4) Not sure about the harvesting while in combat.

My TC chef has some scout (picked up to try out the milking and to have some independence with resources), I'm going to try to get my hands on one of these to try out.

I thought, and could be wrong, that you can harvest meat and your droid can harvest hide, for example.

Well without the droid and without the group you get 100%. With the droid in a group you get 65% and the droid gets 65%, i.e., 130%. The question becomes one of use. Is that extra 30% worth all the hassle of dealing with a droid? They aren't fast enough to keep up with a speeder. They are slow and targeting and issuing a command for each animal may become too much effort, at least of the solo hunter. So would it be quicker to get 100% and spend that 'droid time' on just killing more animals? The harvest rate of resources per hour spend may not be affected very much. I can see the droids being of use in groups of 3 that get 195% of the base resources where you now get 390% of the base. Then everyone goes to the layer, pullsout their droid, get all the droids in the group, kill everything, harvest, have the droid harvest, store the droid then move on. That coulddouble the normal time it takes to do the whole operation plus the extra hassle. Just a balance thing that may need to be looked at.
