Thread: Why does stomach decay over one hour? Why not have it work like other buffs....
There are two problems.
1. A lot of this stuff is instant effects. Like Blue Milk heals mind instantly. If you have a crate of Blue Milk you can just take it over and over again as you fight. There needs to be a limit to that.
2. Unlike other buffs, our buffs stacks. There needs to be a system so that we can't take everything at once...that would be too unbalancing.
Blue Milk = mind Stim, ie needs a timer. The rest off the food needs to not stack. Then the stomach isn't needed. As soon as the buff is gone, you can take another. In this reguard a stomach isn't a bad thing, as we can stack the buffs, or drink Blue Milk a few times in a row with no timer. In a PvP battle you only need a few hits and then can go diguest in peace. In that reguard the stomach is over power compared to a timer.
It is a trade off. Personally if the buffs were good enough that we didn't need to stack 2 or 3 to get a desirable effect, I would say dump the stomach and go with single buff only - no stomach. Though that would mean you can pretty much take all the different food buffs at once. Not sure if that is over powering or not, as there are not that many that can work together and stacking the buffs can in fact be more over powering that a bunch of smaller buffs in different areas.
hehe actually I thought about blue milk....Give things like blue milk a set time to decay, much like now....This would only apply to stat/skill buffs....
I would agree, some buffs would need to be increased in filling (like BoH)....But I feel like it would be far easier to balance if you knew exactly how much you could eat at one time.....
Like, if I was a dev and I knew BoH would fill between 45-55 (depending on experiment)....Then I could balance it with the knowledge that the player will only ever have a max of 2 in thier system at any one time.
With this new system though, it just seems like some foods are way off-balance, to try to compensate for the "possibility" of stacking.....
Might just be me, but I think they are making it way moe complicated then needs to be ![]()
Realistically in thecontext of a RP game, Idon't think that i want to see SWGers eating non-stop. That can't be healthy for them... But in the context of buffing, it doesn't make much sense to limit how much of a buff you can recieve, or when/ how the delay till you can apply further buffs should be handled. I think it might be easier to eliminate all stat buffs and solely do mod effects or other kinds of instant effects rather than buffs giving duration. The idea that eating a certain food strengthens your mind isn't very plausible anyway. There is already a system in place to buff people's mind stats with master dancers / musicians. And while there is no equivalent to doc buffs, in that you can buff yourself in the field (camp) maybe the combat folks will just have to accept that, and change their stats accordingly.
With the upcoming HAM changes, we might see that the need for stat buffs decreased. Assuming they don't though, and the need for instant stat buffs is still around, I think the most sensible way to tackle this problem is think of it like a puzzle as previously suggested. How many of these drinks can I eat before I get full? And for stomach "decay" a system like a TEF I think would be fine. A certain amount of time after combat has ended (providing you don't enter further combat) your character digests the food, and is ready to eat some more. The duration for the buffs would still be normal though. So If you take a 5 min quickness buff, and keep fighting for 30 mins, the buff wears off after 5 mins. After you finally stop fighting (or die, incap shouldn't "empty" stomach) X (5 mins or so like how long a TEF takes to go away seems fair to me) time goes by, your character burps and is ready to eat some more. This type of system I'd be very happy to work around as a combat character.
And anyway, I think we (chefs) should all just calm down about the upcoming changes. At least we are Seeing some changes. I know I'm grateful. Just think about those poor BHs, Squad Leaders, Pikemen, the list goes on and on... We're getting milk, new clothes, and a new role. Don't worry chefs,be happy. ![]()
By the way, I am not arguing for an hour decay rate. Personally, I like half an hour. I think that would work really well...making it a bit challenging without making it a chore.
But I am doing my best to present both the half hour decay rate and the instant rebuff to the developers.
How would you deal with those?
What happens if you've used up 6 of the 18 uses of your heal buff, and don't plan on using it again for a long time. What then?

Is there a message when your character digests food?
