Thread: CU docs posted over in In Concept
- Buffs moving to a percentage-based system (although that seems like overkill with the removal of stat migration).
- Incap requires reducing Health to zero. All damage is done to this pool, and this is probably the only pool that gets wounds.
- Action and Mind are used only to pay for special moves. Buffs to these pools appear to be included in the new combat system.
- Usage stats (strength, quickness, focus) are being removed.
- Health regen (constitution) is definitely remaining. Action/Mind regen (stamina & willpower) are probably remaining, although the docs have a few contradictory points (hopefully just left over from previous iterations of the docs).
- BE apparently has new pre-reqs. Based on the Healing doc, it looks like the scout requirement has been removed. I'm not sure how the BEs will react, but that does free up 29 skill points for Chef/BEs. Of course, having Hunting in scout may still be desirable if you want to gather your own meat.
Details on the buff system are still sketchy. Also, they haven't posted anything at the detailed level of "what happens to old food". But the CU is getting pushed to Testcenter (although it doesn't look like they gave a data for it), so I encourage anyone who's interested to make a character there. The first stage of testing will be with a brand new galaxy and no blue frogs, to focus on low-level stuff. Although personally, I think that hoses crafters, since on Live galaxies newbies have access to master-level items (once they gather the credits to buy them), and long-term crafters have accumulated stockpiles of quality resources.
Nothing to say yet. Still no more real info than we already had...and most of our most pressing questions are still unanswered. Namely:
- What foods will be repurposed, and which will simply be deleted
- What will the size of our buffs be
- Will the Garrmorl bugged schematic get fixed since Health is remaining targetable
- The What when where how (I am omitting "why") of everything else.
Dont think there is anything we can know until we get in there and play with it. I am a little confused though. Is the CU being pushed to testcenter? If it is, then they certainly KNOW what they are doing with our foods. If they know, and they are pushing it to testcenter, that would logically mean that our Chef representatives know.
And that begs the question: If you DONT know, Kriles, and our representatives dont know....then are Chefs even being consulted? Im not attacking you bud...hopefully you know me better than that. But it just seems that you know about as much as we do. THAT scares me more than what they actually have announced, because it intimates that there is a lack of Chef input into a VERY significant change to our profession.
More than anything, can you elaborate on whether you do KNOW how this will affect us yet. I know you cant talk about it. I know that, and I am not asking you to betray any trust. I am just starting to get a feeling that we dont have much say in how this will affect us.
The info that we have so far is good to know, and it does illuminate the coming combat system in a little bit sharper resolution. Thats a good thing. And its a start.

Yes, the CU is going to Testcenter soon (how soon I don't know). It's true that at this point I pretty much know as much as you, although I have had a bit more time to digest things, no pun intended (ok, kind of intended).
My only excuse is that I can only pass on as much information as the devs will release. The "big" parts of the CU (weapons, armor, HAM system, etc) always sucks up most of the bandwidth. Food falls into the "little details" that they haven't gotten into (whether due to lack of time to communicate, or details not yet being finalized).

I've continuously brought up chef concerns, mainly in the corre forum, but occasionally in the CU forum. Pretty much most of your list: worries about changes to food HAM buffs, the "obsoleting" ofusage stat foods like Ahrisa, desirability of buffs as a whole post-CU, and shifting emphasis to Health vs. themind-dominant market we've had since the chef revamp. Our Health buff offerings really are our weakest foods: Garrmorl is capped due to lack of PE/FL in the resources andWon-won only takes light additives. The only health food on par with the action/mind offerings is Gruuvan Shaal, and strength is going away anyway.
I know bud. I NEVER doubted that you were fighting...I just didnt know if there had been any feedback asked for or responded to.

Chef feedback has been provided on the CU forum regarding the effects the HAM changes will have on food, although we haven't gotten anything back on those opinions.
Exactly what I wanted to know....and sadly....also the result I expected.

My personalopinion on the CU getting fast tracked: it sucks. I was under the assumption (prior to the expansion announcements) that I had time, so I was willing to hold back a bit to let the big issues get hammered out. I think that tying the CU release with the expansion (which apparently has a LucasArts-mandated release date to tie in to Ep3)is a bad idea to create a quality product. I may turn out to be wrong, and the devs can pull it off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them, but I am worried for us players if this go bad.
Im right there with you bud.

At first, the character builders (blue frogs) will not be available as we focus on the novice experience. When we begin testing intermediate and high level combat experiences, we will make the character builders available and post information regarding how to find them and the focus of the tests.

Looks like we Chefs possibly won't get the opportunity to test even when this hits TC. It's not going to be practical to grind up Chef and use a new character for testing (nor any other crafting profession) if they only allow certain skills to be obtained from the Frogs.Let's hope they allow us to get harvies & factories from the frogs, or there will be no way to test the new armours & weapons, let alone foods.
You can get all the skills and building from the frogs, and resources aswell.
All having no frogs at the begining will do will ensure someone who is completely new, with no knowledge of the game or any equipment can progress at a non frustrating and fun way.
There will be plenty of time to stretch the system, and those will come in the later stages. I personally will do my damndest to level as many profs as i can in the quickest way possible, using my knowledge from the the old system, to see if the same tricks can be applied. Hopefully they cannot, but that's what testing is for.

Just wanted to say YAY!!! for the new change in the BE skill points required. As I am a Master Chef and Bio-Engineer this means I can now Master Artisan on the same character.
This is a great change in the new CU.
As one word of warning: if you've got any elite combat skills (rifleman, pistoleer, TK, etc), the pre-reqs for those have increased. Elite professions (other than the hybrids like smuggler or BH) require two branches from Brawler/Marksman instead of the single branch they require now.
And just to clarify my comment from last night (it was a stressful day), I don't think the CU sucks. I think it looks like cool combat system with much more variety than we have now. What I don't like is the fact that it went from "it'll be done when it's done" to "Buy RotW and get a new exciting combat system". Personally, I think it was due to pressure from LucasArts to coordinate with the movie release, not necessarily a direction SOE wanted to go.
{and before anyone asks, the CU is being pushed to everyone regardless of whether they buy RotW, the release schedules are just being synched, and the CU is a feature bullet point in the RotW press releases}
I also have concerns about the viability of food post-CU, but I want to see how things work while played before making a firm evaluation. We've been doing well for the past year because food buffs (especially Mind) filled a strong need. Reducing the "need" for buffs is an admirable goal, but there is sometimes a thin line between "not always necessary but great when I do need it" and "why bother buying/carrying/using that".

So far there's a lot of that going on with other professions as well. I have a fencer/doc and a novice chef toon, and all seem to have some "why bother" type questions related to them. However, I can't imagine a total revamp (that's taken this long) would not consider the crafting professions and their need to be able to sell wares that have enough value that folks will want them. If not, you'd see a mass exodus from the crafting professions, which totally goes against the idea with the CU that class/profession interdependance will become the norm again.
