Hello fellow Chef's,

I was wondering. I am an up and coming Chef and I truly enjoy the crafting. I'm not grinding and I am finding this a craft I truly intend on keeping.

The point of this message is to see how all of you work as far as set up. I am not trying to take secrets from anybody because the Chef trade is a trade that makes the old saying "More than one way to skin a Rancor" come to light. There are tons of ways to get the crate of Canape or Brandy, but how do you have your operations set up.

I myself have the following (Remember, up and coming, money is an issue right now considering I am selling singles of crafted stuff on the bazaar for 200-500 credits, renting out lots isn't a problem yet):

1 Food and Chemical Crafting Station (For BE and Chef Manufacturing)

1 Water Extractor

1 Solar Power

1 Small House (Storage and Crafting)

I do plan on upgrading and adding alot more, but what do you all have in your "back yard"?

It would be cool to set up an average of what a master uses to craft.

Well I can say that I'm pretty sure I have one of the smaller operations as a master chef. I typically only produce goods for friends and guildmembers and really only mass produce canape, brandy, bivoli as these are what I have found to be in the highest demand. But, back on topic and to answer your question, I have:

1 medium house (storage)

1 small house (crafting)

4 food/chem factories

3 BER 13 flora farms

3 BER 4 micro flora

I have off loaded the lots for the factories to a friend who doesn't use his lots. The harvestors take up to as many as 6 at any one given time. The 2 houses are the other 4 lots. Personally, unless you want to try to give the biggest chef in your galaxy a run for his/her money, I find it unnecessary to have rented lots and what not. I buy all my power as it has become pretty cheap (typically 1-2cpu on Shadowfire). You could even scale back the number of harvestors and factories from what I have and be completely self sufficient. Lets say you only had 3 heavy harvestors and 3 factories. You could still work satisfactorily within your allowed lots.

Multiple factories is a MUST. We as chefs have don't have a ton of sub componants (at least compared to some other professions) that we need to make, but it's always nice to have a batch of subs going while a different finished product is going in another factory. Example - 4 factories - alcohol, medium additives and casks going in 3 factories while canape is working in the other. Nice to not have down time and helps to keep a quick turnaround time for special orders too.

I'm tired of typing although I could go on for a while. Hope this helps...

Thanks,

I've got these "permanent" structures:

1 small house (high quality crafting station and vendors)

1 factory (due to a lapse in maintenance I lost my second one, been shopping around for an architect)

1/4 small house (shared with other merchants for vendor)

Then for resources, I've got one heavy vaporator, one fusion generator, one heavy mineral extractor (mostly for gemstone, although I've got a couple mediums for random stuff), five medium flora harvesters (I just find them easier to place than heavies), and a medium chem harvester.

I don't lot swap, so I obviously never have all of the harvesters down at the same time. I keep an eye on swgcraft for good quality resources, and check around my main base of operations for convenient high-% concentrations of component resources (gemstones, water, wheat, veggies).

I won't go into my details as they wouldn't help starting out, but here are my recommendations.

1 house that takes up 2 lots. Unless you are storing nothing but chef resources, you will need the 150 storage. You might be able to get by with the 100 in the safe deposit, 110 on your char and 75 in a house. 110 on your char IMO isn't wise though.

2 factories if your buying tissues, 3 if your making them yourself.

Harvestors

Obviously heavies would be preferred but I know not everyone has 2 million to spend on harvs right away. There are a few options and all really depend on what you will harvest and what you will buy. I personally buy all the junk resources and harvest all the good ones. Junk resources would be gemstone, chemicals if your making your own trim, various flora, like wheat, vegetables ect for components.

You only need a Mineral harv for the food for Melee defense and gemstone for casks. If you are buying gemstone, don't bother getting this harvestor, or at least put it on the back of your list of things to get.

Chemical is required in Vercupti and Trim. Again if your buying these, don't bother getting this harv.

Water, its in enough recipes that I would get at least one harv here. I do buy all the water I use for tissues though, and only harvest quality stuff for food.

Gas, I would say one here again just because there are a few recipes that do use gas. But 40-50k would last you a long time with a small operation.

Fusion/Solar, I buy all my power, again because stats really don't matter to me. If you harvest your own power, IMO this should be the first one you upgrade to a heavy. Radioactives are a lot easier to find at a decent concentration than solar.

Flora - Your goal should be enough floras to fill all your open lots(so 6 if you have a house and 2 factories). These will be the most used by far.

There is nothing wrong with mediums. If you keep your operation small, there is nothing wrong with staying with mediums either. I would only upgrade if you find that you can't harvest enough resources to keep up with demand.

Also just noticed your on Tempest. Do you happen to have a vendor up? I just recently upgraded most of my heavies to larger hoppers. My old ones are all yours if you want them, 8 heavies. If you do have a vendor up or could put one up, please send the wp to amandil. Hopefully I didn't delete them.

Also since your on tempest, www.enactive.org/swg is a much better site for resources than swgcraft.com. Its kept up to date a lot more. The site is only for tempest though.

8 food factories (was 11 but lost 3 to a maintenance accident last week)
3 clothing factories
1 medium house devoted to chef stuff, but several others that I can use occasionally
1 merchant tent and vendor
18 heavy flora farms, about 10 of each other type

I don't really need as many factories as I have, but they do help make things easier. I used them more when I was making my own additives, but now they probably only run about half-time. I typically start them all running something about two or three times a week, then don't come back for a few days.

My harvester usage varies quite a bit. When something really nice appears I will get help dropping as many harvesters as possible on it. Otherwise, I may not run any or occasionally drop 6 or 8 on water/gemstone when I have trouble finding any for sale.

I am a small a chef producer mainly just for friends and guildies.

1 Medium House (mainly for storage)

2 Food Factories (1 for additive, 1 for foods)

1 Solar Gen.

3 Med flora harv.

3 Micro flora harv.

2 Med Water vapl

2 Med Gas harv.

3 Personal Chem harv.

3 Personal & 1 med mineral harv.

1 vendor (in guild's market house)

So i have 4 lots dedicated to static structures. The rest i just swap out harvesters as I need them. I dont rent lots and I dont buy resources except for creature ones. I watch the swgcraft.com for good resources and I put down all myflora harv. down getting one resource at a time. If there are no good flora resources then i put down other harv. to stock up on water, gems ands chemicals. I have a friend in an all ranger guild. So i get low prices on large stacks of meat(sometimes free) to make uber BE tissues in exchange for reduced price foods. I dont really have enough play time to expand my business much passed my current level. Plus I spend what spare time I have with my ranger friends helping them to gather resources.

10 food factories

2 wareables

2 equipment

1 structure

1 med center - 225 items, 3 lots

2 smalls

1 medium

4 tents

I am an architect so a lot of harvesters of all types, highest BER, most are 14s. I've built the best crafting stations on my server, so I have plenty of those.

I don't just do chef stuff though. I would say most of my crafting time is food related. As you up grade you get more and more stuff that piles up until your operation becomes rather large.

Thanks all of you for great info. It's odd at how diverse we all are in achieving the almighty credit.

Structures:

  • 1 Medium House

  • 6 Food Factories - I have access to many more if I need them (for instance right now I am running 12)

  • 2 Equipment Factories (god damn barrels - they'll work eventually!!)

  • 2 Wearables Factories

  • 10 Heavy Floras - BER 14's and 13's

  • 3 Heavy Water - BER 13

  • 1 Fusion - BER 21

  • Gas/Mineral - I have access to alot of these, though I don't own any

  • 2 character accounts - One is my main and handles all my static lots, and my alt is my BE and handles all the harvestors.

As far as resources I harvest all those on my own (Milk, Flora, Gas, Water). I watch swgcraft like crazy so I only harvest the best, if there is nothing good to harvest then I harvest water for additives. I personally think harvesting your own resources is one of the best things you can do, as you have more control over quality, amount and its more affordable then purchasing resources.

If you make your additives, then you definetly need a ton of factories or atleast have access to alot of factories as they take alot of time to produce.

I don't have my vendor up just yet. I am on Tatooine most of the time, and if your in town or you want me to come to you, contact me in game. My ingame name is Ykai. What I can, and will do, is put my vendor up in my Guild-mates house in Bestine, near the starport. Waypoint to follow.

As far as the responses, I know it may not look like it will help a newbie, but I was curious to a full tilt operation. I see it interesting how different people handle things differently. Keep'em coming, GREAT INFO

10 food/chem factories

7 medium houses, mostly full with resources

10 ber 13 flora, water, chem, gas and mineral harvesters (more of the flora and mineral)

I have friendly BE's that come and make my tissues with my own products, which I purchase/acquire on my own thru various means. The chef is an alt character, of which he runsvendors for my doc, and my friends CM sales options. We also make speeders and such master artisan products for sale.. We entered into a "cartell" with a armorsmith, tailor, architect and weaponsmith, so all the vendors are located in 1 place to make things easier for customers, and get impulse sales off each other. The chef/doc/cm/artisan (mostly speeders only) takes in a nice sum of credits a week.

MMM Industries, found at 2540 -4661 near Mos eisley. Food, weapons, powerups, armor, med's, speeders, repair tools, we have it all..
