Thread: Poll: Should Changes Stay or Should They Go?

Ok, everybody has some problems with these changes. Nobody thinks this is perfect. However, assuming that we get the changes that we are asking for in this thread, do you want the changes to go in or do you want chefs to stay as they are? Again, this is assuming we get some fixes in and we get some tweaks?

I think we should stay as we currently are on live servers with the addition of milk. Untill they can further sort out the revamp. Its painfully obvious this revamp was given very little thought and has more problems / balance issues than not. They should shelve it till they work these out rather than re-breaking a profession that has been broken for a majority of the peroid of time this game has been released.

What Snitch said. Its painfully unfair to ask us to feel good about something that is designed for basically another game. How can we honestly compare the two when we have never used the new system and dont really know much about it? There are things that need to be reworked, bugs that need to be fixed (particularly the whacking out of all prexisting food) There are a few things that I really liked...pikatta pie, smugglers delite, assembly food for those big risks. But there are many more that I just dont think are appropriate. What I would have ideally seen is like someone mentioned in another thread, using our current buffs and replacing the now useless foods with the mod foods. Just bring those into the current system to replace the stuff that is useless. Then we might actually have a reasonable amount of recipes. Everyone thought that the new patch would urge chefs to specialize. But that doesnt appear to be the case at this point. It looks like 5-6 foods people will want mostly and some occasional stuff on the side that every once in awhile someone will want. Which is pretty much where we are already. Take the good new, combine it with the good old and we have a menu, not just 5 items people want. Oh and fix milk

I'm torn.


Weneeded an enhancement of the profession. The new effects, added to what we already could do, would have been fantastic. But with the removal of so many good schematicson top of disallowing us our personal touches (component experimentation, deciding which alcohol bases to use, etc) this is not an enhancement, it's a swap.


I feel like they are shorting us here.


Can I vote to keep the changes (with your suggested fixes) AND to add back those foods that we will suddenly forget to make when this hits? If this makes us have to wait a little longer for changes that's ok with me. And if they need to 'nerf' them later to be in line with the mythical new HAM system, so be it. Taking them out entirely just stinks.

I'll thrown in my 2cr, even though I just recently took up the Chef profession (mostly because I read about the upcoming changes and I liked what I saw).


Personally I like the idea that I won't just be doing factory run after factory run of Fishak. I'm also a tailor, and one of the things I like about that profession is the variety. The idea of just having a few best-sellers seems dull to me. I also like the idea of experimenting on filling, duration, buff size and stack size as separate factors.


I think it's way too soon to throw the baby out with the bath water, to be honest.


And for all those folks saying "OMG, I can't possibly survive without food XXX".. maybe this is part of making the game harder? I do recall TH saying that fighting was going to become amore difficult in the future. So maybe it won't just be about getting doctor's buffs, eating food x & y,and then spamming specials 1, 2, 3 and 4 until the mob is dead. Does anyone think this game is hard as it stands right now? I think it's much too easy. So, playing devil's advocate here, maybe they took out the food that was "too good." /shrug

Presuming we get all the changes you requested? That sounds incredibly optimistic, but in that case I'd take the new system. If we can only get 90% of those changes, I'd prefer the old. It's that close to being a wash, imo.

If the new buffs are designed for the new HAM system, it baffles me why they aren't being implemented at the same time. After all, I'm sure doctor/dancer/spice buffs will be changed at the same time, why not ours?

Persoannly, I'd trather see most of this system left on test until the new HAM system is ready. Give us bits and pieces... chef hats, milk availability, and drink containers (after addressing the resource: benefit ratio) all seem to apply just fine to the current system. The stuff that won't be useful until combat is revamped shouldn't be implemented until combat is revamped.

I hope that they add in the milk and put the revamp on the back burner. Please keep Chef the way it is now on the live servers. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel with the way it is on test center right now.

I would MUCH RATHER have buffs stay where they are like now, with Milk added BUT also I like the idea of the bio engineer additions that you can have that will raise buffs or stack size or duration or decrease filling.


The removal of mind buff foods is what is going to be the kicker for me. I came back to SWG after quitting over the last horrible bug. Now this will ruin the class. We now have to rely too heavily on other classes and we require too many resources. It's not fun.


Too bad our opinion won't matter at all.

Have to agree with the general sentiment here...the revamp, at a minimum, should wait until publish 7 or whenever they get around to implimenting the new HAM system. There are a few things that are intriguing in the new food system, however nothing that warrants the loss of key schematics, diversity of subcomponents (alcohol), and frankly an increased dependence on other classes...we already have that in the form of resources that we do not have time to gather. I can't make ggp right now because I have no time to hunt...therefore I pay other players to hunt for me...when I have time I do it myself...forcing chefs to rely on other professions or use up our already applied skill points is ludicrous.


To comment on a previous poster...combat is too easy...you want to fix it? Kill the ability to spam specials...that will solve a huge part of the combat issue. There is nothing more frustrating than being killed by a played who does nothing more than press 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, until you're dead -- if I wanted that kind of retarded combat I'd play Tribes, Halo, Quake, etc.Even in PvE, putting a timer on specials would increase the difficulty (unless your hunting really easy stuff or have a huge group). Stims have a timer...why not combat specials?


Back to chef, I would say no on implimenting this...unless they make ALL the changes we want AND nothing ends up broken again (crate bug).

With the stat buff nerfs, and the filling issues, I dont want this revamp now. We should not be penalised for months, simple because "it will be OK when the new systems come in". I dont see any doctor/spice/dancer/musician buff nerfs in this patch, yet they all totally outbuff us.

This revamp will totally kill the chef as a viable crafting profession as it currently is on the TC.
With those changes, plus more - like allowing stat buffs to be reused as soon as they drop - or 5mins max, AND increase them until the new HAM system is in, I can accept the revamp

I too am torn on this issue for a couple of reasons.


1 I ama MDE, whit the DE shinigans they are proposing that profession is just about worthless until something is decided cause no one who reads the boards is buying any high end multi station / any combat ability droids til something is decided.


My point: I made some money as a DE. I've made GOBS of money as a Chef. So my cookery skills are allowing me to keep DE going without survey missions or waisting resources on stuff that sells but I dont want to make (swoops espically I love makeing the 50+k off them when I get a good experiment but I had SO MUCH high quality steel before I started makeing swoops, now I only have a little).


So I don't want Chef to take the same route and it not be a viable profession until the chages are decided, either buff nerfs or the combat system.


2. I want to see this game grow and do things, and I'm excited about the changes. I know that in the end we will get sorted out but if we have to wait til publish 8 when the combat is finalized I just don't know.


3. Some of the better foods, not always good sellers but I knew the food is good and some of the people in the 'know' know the food is good, are gone. I guess if we could get some of those back, and maybe a couple of the buff foods not so nerfed I'd say keep the changes. Also,make old foods work,and make experimentation on subcomponents work again. I can make some awesome dough and carbosyrup cause I'm a MA. Don't penalize me for being a MA.

I'd say even given you get 100% of the changes you asked for, at the very least they should wait until the new HAM system gets in, and do any stat buff nerfs with corresponding doctor and spice stat buff nerfs.Until that time the old important stat buff foods should be retained .


I feel bad about the whole thing, I know how much work it took to convince the dev's to do a rewrite and now so many don't like it, but as rewrites go its kind of sucky right now.Pre-nerfed for HAM changes before any other class, new penalties added to a class that was already having enough problems that they needed a major rewrite [tailor/artisan dependance, more resources required], etc.


I'm simply pessimistic though, maybe after the HAM changes and after they get a chance to finish the rest of the schematics rather than dump them due to lack of time, then it will all be good. I really hope they wait at this point though.
