Thread: Smuggler with a proposition...
Ok, it's gonna be a LOOONG time before I make this a reality, but I thought I'd go ahead and run this buy you guys, and see how this strikes you. I'm gonna open a cantina one day in the future. I'm gonna have two vendors. One selling drinks and my spices, and one selling guns and my spices. So I'm gonna need one of you chefs to be my mixologist. So here's the proposition.
For You: you get full use of my food factory, which makes my spices. You get a vendor I take care of to sell your drinks when you don't wanna be pouring in person. You have access to all my contacts for your resource needs. Your name is on the sign with mine.
For Me: I get 10% of you gross (not your profit) for help in upkeep of all this insanity. I reserve the right to raise that if I really need it (I wouldn't unless money was REALLY tight, I hope to be fairly rich before I even begin this venture). I get access to whatever contacts you have for whatever raw resources I need (as in, "while your out pick me up some of this organic or inorganic" remember, this is the same for both of us). And you keep my bartending vendor stocked on drinks (muy importante). My name is also on the sign. Of course, it's my building, so I control the admin (we can discuss sharing priveleges). It'll hopefully be a rebel/criminal hang out (and I plan on using my admin abilities to bar trouble makers, and to make it a rebel safe house if I can).
So what do you all think? If I offered you this deal, would you think it's fair? If no, why? I like having a plan long before the action.
Personally, my preference would be to set up my own vendor in your house. That way I would manage the costs of the vendor, and then split the cost of upkeep on the house (maybe as a weekly rent, which could also include any extras for furniture upgrades or entertainers…). It would be a bit easier than having to keep track of the gross sales.
I *think* you can set up vendors in other peoples houses if you have appropriate permission, but I’ve never actually tried it…
Also, not all chefs are going to have the ability to place a vendor so that would only work forpeople that could, but its food for thought. ![]()
By the way, which server are you on?
me and a smuggler have teamed up and whenever i get around to grinding i will start producing some food and may be i could set up a vender in her shop and the fact that there is food there will draw customers to her shop and they will see her spice too so it benifits both of us. also we give eachother stuff for practically free (for personal use, i get discounts on crates of muon and pixie and droid lube and whatever) andwe sell eachother whatever resources we need forreal cheap and its a symbiotic relationship. I dont think you should take a cut of the gross income, they should just pay once a week, half the weekly upkeep. the factory could just be shared (or if you insist charge half of its maintenance too per week)
because if you do it the other way, what if they make no money one week, or what if they make a million credits then its either not fair to you, or its not fair to the other guy.
i think seperate venders is the way to go, one markedjust for food and one just for spice and guns
No serious problem, but I thought I mention it.
You have a few options on how to handle this:
- Buy the food from the chef and mark it up and put it on your vendor. This increases your risk as you're having to hold the inventory and deal with the inventory costs. However, you still have complete control of your building/contents.
- Make the chef an admin and let them run their own vendor. You don't have to worry about inventory costs. However, now the chef could theoretically walk away with all your furniture, building maintenance, etc. Additionally, you don't get a piece of the pie as it were.
- Take the food on consignment and pay the chef as the food sells on your vendor. This is lowest risk for you as the chef pays the inventory costs (in unsold resources used) and you maintain control of your building.
It comes down to the degree to which you trust the chef with whom you've partnered. If you don't trust the person that much, then giving them control of your building probably isn't all that wise. However, if you don't trust them, there is no reason that they should trust you... which pretty much shoots down options 2 and 3.
So, initially I would just suggest contacting a chef and buying some crates of multi-stack foods and stocking them yourself. With factories getting fixed in the near future, the whole concept of being able to sell other people's foods is more practical.
Cheers,
Kaizen
Or alternatively. I am a master smuggler.. And also on my way to being a master chef. If you want to run a cantina and be a smuggler.. Do your professions right ![]()
I stock a vendor for an architect's robo bartender. I drop the stuff on the vendor at my bulk rate, he buys it, marks it up, and resells. I also have a second character nearing master merchant, and I'veset up a deal with an entertainer friend whoputs instruments on the vendor that I resell.Easy enough, I'd think you could make this work. Even easier if you offered use of a factory.
Right now every artisan seems to think they should run their own vendor, and can pretty easily because of vendors in Business III and decent enough vendors if you have just novice merchant. The merchant class is left feeling essentially useless. But I have a feeling the merchants will get dev love over time and there will be significant advantages to master merchant(like better advertising and lower vendor fees), that will make this type of thing more common.
