Thread: Possible Pricing for Additive tissues, from a BE for discussion

Hi All,

As a BE on Shadowfire and a regular food user, I've been following the Chef changes with great interest.

I've tried to work out, based on expected average resource prices for the BE Additive tissues, what typical prices for each additive may be, and then added 20% for profit, to give a table of prices that a BE may charge a chef for tissues. I expect resources prices may vary from 70% - 400% of what I have listed, but these are the rates I would expect most of the time.

I'd be interested in getting the chefs point of view on these prices, and what you would expect to use in bulk quantities, what would be useful with 'mediocre' ingredients, and what you would only want made with 'top-grade' ingredients.

The prices I've used have been 5cpu for all organics, except berries/fruit at 6cpu. General meat at 8cpu, wild meat at 10cpu, domesticated meat at 15cpu, and then milk at 30cpu.

Also I know there has been 1 or 2 mentions of which 'category' of enhancement will be preferable, but maybe that could be discussed here again, in light of the possible pricing influence as well.

Duration Quantity Filling Effect
Light 354 480 720 990
Medium 552 510 1170 1440
Heavy 732 750 1512 1962

Apologies for the format - seems we can't post HTML tables.

Hope this is useful to further discussion on the changes.

Hey Illienne,

From what sciguyCO has said, it seems that when using just using resources (no BE tissues), the quantity and filling range are the most narrow. I prefer to improve on the weakness rather than improve the strength even more. Therefore I will probably be using filling and quantity tissues. Furthermore, I will try to use quantity tissue to get the most out of barrels as well. I am not sure about the experimentation now, but I always have the easiest time increasing the buff first, followed by duration, and last quantity. If the same holds true for the patch, then I will probably rarely buy buff tissues, only for special orders. I personally would prefer less filling so I can customize my food/drink preferences even more. Duration will be good for stat foods that do not quite reach the 30 minute digestion time.

I will probably also only be buying light tissues alot, probably exclusively. Id rather have some tissue enhancement in my food then none at all. Id rather have half my inventory with BE light tissue enhanced food then 1/10 my inventory with heavy (probably high priced) BE tissue enhanced food.

These are all my opinions and what I think will favor my customers, but I could be wrong. Who knows, I may only be buying the exact opposite from what I have stated.

Personally I think either duration or effect is most imporant. All 4 stats are related to each other however, and improving one makes the others less necessary. If you improve duration then the quantity is less imporant, need to eat less, fill is less important, need to eat less to continue buff. If you improve effect, then you need to eat less to get the same buff, so quantity isn't as big a deal as it filling. I guess when you look at this, filling and duration are the most closely related and effect and quantity if you are stacking buffs, or duration and quantity if you are doing a single buff. Though you can tailor make different foods with low fillings so many different types of food can be taken to achieve a rather mixed, although maybe powerful, combo. I think most people will be looking at the effect first, then at the other stuff last. Those that are good in math will be looking at all 4 and buying the best balanceof all 4 stats.

The biggest gain comes from using a quantity additive though... guess this will add variation as we all have different opinions.

Illienne, my suggestion would be for now, to gather stuff for all the light additives first. I will gladly buy them and start testing to see what works for what foods. It will take some time getting used to but eventually I should have a rough count of what tissues I will be needing and which I will scarcely use. But yea, just from the few posts, it seems it is going to be very opinionated to begin with.

Heck, who will pay for our food I wonder? If I didn't miscalculate anything a crate of Casks of Vasarian Brandy will cost about 23k at 3cpu for the resources and 6cpu for the Trim (150 credits per Trim). That is without BE enhancers.

A medium filling enhancement would (using those prices) effectively doubling the cost ending up at roughly 50k for a crate.

Would anyone be willing to pay about 60-75k for a crate of Food? I start to highly doubt it :/

Customers are paying that much for food right now. That's without uber food with Bio-enhancements.

This post is exactly my arguement for not having BE additives mandatory (reducing requirements) the resources that BE's need always come at a premium. I'd hate for people to come to expect that.

Also, if BE additives become commonplace, food is going to be too powerful overall, and will be nerfed.

We all know that people always want the *best* shtuff available - we'll be yelled at for selling non-BE-enhanced food I bet

I am pretty new to the Chef business and guess I'll have to learn about prices the hard way

Expect and want are 2 completely different ideas.

People want guns enhanced with krayt tissue, they will seek out a weaponsmith that can make them and pay a premium. But Krayt tissue is hard to get, so no one expects weaponsmiths to have krayted weapons always in stock. That's how I'd like to see BE additives. The resources are difficult to get compared to Food resources, and you have to go to a BE to get them made. It's not as hard as Krayt tissue, but you buy a lot of food, and not a lot of guns. That's the trade-off.

I'm all about trade-offs by the way

Fortunately most of my business is supplying my PA, so they'll take what I give them, lol, since they get it free (or rather, they provide ingredients, I provide food.) I also have a Bio-Engineer in my PA willing to mass produce the additives, but don't know if he realizes yet the quantities I'm going to require, lol. Most likely I will provide my PA with the bio-engineered, in a barrell, stuff when I can, and when I can't, they will accept whatever I can provide at the time, or will be willing to wait for the better stuff.

As for paying clients, well all of mine at the moment are special orders, since I can't keep up with PA demand and stocking a vendor.

Exactly. People do want the best food possible, but they are willing to buy the other food if the BE enhanced food is not in large supply. Heck, we have BE enhancements right now, but I've never had a customer say "Why don't you have BE enhancements in all your food?"

Lol, well that's off to a good start

My Dilema is which resources to focus on gathering, as I have my limits like everyone. Guess it's a little of everything until things settle down.

I was having a look at some of the foods I'd like to use and seeing what additives are best. It's going to be differnt for each depending on the effect I guess. Eg Blue milk is an instant effect, so I guess a duration additive does nothing for it.
