Thread: Any other chefs feel the patch has made making food too much work?

My resource requirement has expanded, more factory runs, trim, additives, shuffling stuff around due to database limitations.

I guess i could specialize in a couple food and drink items, but it destroys my concept of the class.

I guess i'll give it another week or two.

Its also a shame that the trolls have descended on our boards with the advent of the patch as well.

You know, I'm with you on this. I'm not a terribly stupid person but I feel like I need a degree in quantum mechanics just to make a crate of brandy. Maybe I should just stick with a combat class.

I like the fact that there's more food and drink to make... but the fact is there's only a few that people really want. I love the chef profession, I'd get bored with combat, but it's work. And to stay in the marketplace in game you just have to commit a few hours every day or two. Just how it works.

I'm also going to school and struggling. Time management is everything. Unfortunately I lack the skill.

ROFL quantum mechanics Yes creating BE enhanced drinks has become a daunting task; it is basically the same factory time/runs as 2 factory runs of fishak. As I have posted before If someone logs in once a day and only has 1 factory it is a 8 day process to make a full run of brandy (assuming trim is purchased also) I havent actually calculated all of the component times, so it might be longer if any component takes longer than 24-26 hours to make. I do know that the BE tissue takes 52 hours to cook, just slightly less time than Aludium used to be.

3 days BE tissue

1 day Additive

2 days Alcohol

1 day Casks

1 day Brandy

8 Days for finished product.

Well you know what they say fine wine (or brandy in this case) doesnt happen overnight I would like to see the BE tissue cooking time shortened though.

Itsway too much work IMO... we all WANT to make the good stuff, but to do that, we have to buy schematics from BE's (who, in which are suddenly getting big heads, in thinking charging us 200k for one is fair) plus you have to buy ungodly amounts of trim for your casks (which HAVE to be in factory crates to work) Plus, making the drink glasses is a big nuisance to me. It needs a whopping 150 crystalline (specifically) gemstone to make 1 damn glass. 1 GLASS! 150 units is a big chunk out of most peoples resources.

And of course, the biggest complaint I have, is all this factory time to make it all. First factory run, is to make these casks that need an absurd amount of trim and gemstone (if your making a lot). Plus you have to get this trimfrom a Tailor, which just makes things more difficult to obtain.3 years later, when thats all finished, you have to make some alcohol. 3 more years pass by, that finishes. Now, if you want the Brandy to be as good as everyone expects, you have to go find yourself a big headed Bio-Engineer who DOESNT want to charge you 200k for a schematic for medium nutrients. (I never expected it to be free, but jeez, the amounts some of them are asking is ridiculous.)

Now, everything is finally set, you throw it all in the factory and start to produce brandy. Then 1 and 1/2 years pass by and you get an email saying "Factory is out of Alcohol" WHAT?!?! DOH! I forgot to make TWICE as many alcohol crates as Brandy crates that I needed, since they need TWO identical alcohols per drink. (Novice Mathematician is a new requirement for Chef) Then you gotta do that... It just NEVER ENDS!! It could easily take new chefs who grinded their way up, 3 or 4 days just to make some good BE enhanced Brandy... I'm starting to feel like the 350k Chefs are charging for it per crateis all totally well deserved, and not just there for supply and demand.

Dont get me wrong, I'm still having a lot of fun with it, and I know the reward will more than pay back for all I've spent, but just gathering together the resources and components to make these things is harsh... maybe if Chefs could produce something the bio-engineers needed for one of their items, people could do business equally, trading one thing for another. Rather than one of the two trying to reap the others profit. It wouldn't solve everything, but it might help...

Ok, I've vented for today. What do you all think about this?

I like it, gives me something more to do as a crafter. Who wants to do easy stuff all day, and for the prices that brandy is going for, even without BE additives, I will be glad to be a chef. I do not think it is too hard, just takes time, get a buddy to set down a few more factories for you, I can make a crate of brandy in around 30 minutes. But that is just my opinion. Thanks for listening. And by the way, don't complain about this game being hard, lol, you want everything to be easy? This game is already easy enough.

The drinks do take some patience. The foods though... are real fast and with many factories.. I do full runs of manyfoods every day because the factory time has been cut way down.

The expanded resource requirements has been the main thing keeping me busy the past....geeze, it's only been a week?!? But I look at this as a good thing: I need more resources because I have more useful recipes. Instead of just looking for fruits, cereal, radioactive, metal and reactive gas (for aludian, Fishak, Ryshcate, BoH), I've got 15 or 20 different things I want to throw up on my vendor. And once I get some decent stacks of new resource types, my harvesting will probably be able to get down to a more sustainable level.

Although I do think I need to get a third factory. One for components and one for finished products isn't really cutting it, even with the reduced factory time. Although I may hit the same thing as with harvesters, get a decent stock up on the vendor and the manufacturing will get less hectic.

Maybe its just me then, I used to have time to do other stuff in the game now I seem to be tending to my harvesters, factories and resource needsonly.

I do already use two accounts a friends i run 5 factories and mine which i run 8 harvesters on.

I never minded doing fishak yes it took time to make in the factory, but all I did was put in the aludiam schematic then in 2 days come back and do the fishak. In fact setting all my factories to run aludiam was always a nice break.

Initially it was a lot of work for me....checking out the new foods; deciding what to make and for how much. But now I'm at the level of "work" I was at pre-patch (log in after work, check the factories and harvesters and stock vendors). All in all pretty good, but then I'm not dealing with the BE enhancements for the moment.

As many people have stated, chef profession is more about specialising now. Don't try to get every resource (it'll drive you crazy looking for the best of everything), try to concentrate on say 20-40% of the recipes. Maybe get the ones that most/all of the resources overlap. I initially made as much as possible but since I've been gathering resources ever since I saw the requirements, I was prepared. Once my stored resources start to run out with recipes I don't think sell too well or just don't fit 'my cooking regime', I won't be gathering resources. Also, if you make a bit of $$ from the revamp initial sales, try locating a supplier. Let them (or their partners) do the hard work of finding resources. You won't make as much per item profit but well, it's a lot less heartache.

If you can't stand the fire, get out the kitchen

I'm loving this revamp, pre revamp, I had 2-3 factories, a house and various harvestors. Now I have 9 factories via a lot swap, a house and 8 flora harvs and I swap from mineral/water harv as need be it. I just hooked onto a gemstone miner, hopefully he can be my supplier. Just one less resource I don't have to worry about gathering (and it's a big one too). Casks, glasses- I'm going through a LOT of gemstones!

All gone. Nothing to see now. Bye Bye Ahazi most of you guys were cool

my only complaint is the 2 runs needed for the additives. i don't mind waiting for the BE stuff... but having to take them and run it again with just 20 units of water per is kinda silly.

Im loving the revamp too, although my whole way of running a business has changed. I have to outsource certain resources now, there isnt really a way round it for me without falling way behind on the demand. Im currently outsourcing gemstones, fiberplast and polymer (for the trims) and also meats, bone and milk. I ended up increasing factory numbers to 10 (8 food and chem, 1 wearables, 1 equipment <---- they will fix my barrels one day!). And im running 18 high capacity flora harvesters.

Chefing has become much more complex but I like that. Before I always got the impression that people were in awe of the work the master weaponsmiths and armorsmiths did and the chefs were just a "play at it" crafter. No one can possibly say that now.

Like a few other posters, I do wish they would remove the need to run the BE enhancements with water to make them into chefing enhancements. This step really is a pain as the BE enhancements alone take a long time in the factory. Ifi actually had excess time on my hands (or resources) then Id make some of the BE tissues, turn them into chef ones and sell them, but well, I dont

It isnt easy to be a chef anymore, on a good note, this may mean that all those new chefs who took up the profession as a goldmine may not stay with us too long. Im lucky in that, being a student, I do have quite a lot of time to play. The chefs who are managing businesses, full time jobs, kids etc have my upmost respect because I really do not know how they do it

But hey, its nice having a larger menu. My customers do buy much more than just the brandy and Im disciplining myself to not turn into a brandy making machine but to cater to more people.

Kind Regards,
