Well I am a novice chef and I now know why there are so few....

A) Exp is a major pain... I grinded out about 5k of exp and my mouse hand is aching... how boring.

B) My chef food is worse then domestic arts food.

C) Did I mention my hand hurts from clicking so much

D) My food is useless... I am giving it away so people eat it.

E) I just read the chef forums for the first time... groan another broken class.

F) seems like developers could care less about the chef profession

Anyways.. hopefully they give our profession some love... I have been a chef for one night and already thinking about surrendering the skill.

A: With Ithorian Mist, I am quickly (resources willing) on my way to Master Chef.

B: That's because you have either low, or no Cooking tree. If you want to experiment for better food (and I'm sorry even now, not one artisan food I can make comes close to the numbers I can get with Cooking IV.

Yes, I had to grind the same Wastril Bread you're doing to get it. Went for the Mixology tree and got the Ithorian Mist, and I can literally sit down for a couple of hours and rake in almost 100k xp.

Key is having the resources to back it up. If you don't, happy harvesting, or shopping.

"D) My food is useless... I am giving it away so people eat it."

Yep Oh the woes of being a newbie chef. Just get better silly. No money? Oh well. Have to spend money to make money, so get your booty on some missions. I've churned about1 mil through me, made and almost spent. hehe about 100k left.

The giving should be your intent ANYWAY. It's xp, silly. Use cheap resources, and pass out in a busy cantina for free. Yea it costs. But so does everything, my friend.

"E) I just read the chef forums for the first time... groan another broken class."

Hmmm. I think I'm starting to agree with you a bit. Yes there's problems, but none so bad as you can't get where I have gone. If you want to groan about something, let the chef correspondent and the chefs who've been here a while work that out, and focus on bad (rather, nonexistant) tools to manage your business, broken factories (which seem to be ...much better, still not up to par), and DISAFREAKINPEARING ITEMS! (Sorry, that one makes me so mad, I want to beatmy fists into things like a gorilla.)

We know what they need to do, and they've heard a bit of it, and actually worked on it a bit!!! (O - M - G!)

The biggest thing that needs to happen for us right now is a recipe ladder that makes a little sense. (less resources less quality for low level items, more resources for better buffs at the top of the trees)

"F) seems like developers could care less about the chef profession"

I half-heartedly agree. This is ....seemingly true. Yea, we're getting ignored for the 1,000,000,000,000 other bugs in this game. A small bit of priority has been put into the patches (they fixed flora harvesters, which should have been elevated to a GAME issue and both architect classes and chef classes get an extra 'issue'. No items like that should be messed up in a PAY SERVICE GAME. This is where Sony disappoints me time and time again. And Sony, I wish lucasarts would retract your part of this bargain, and settle with doing servers with thier own dollars.

I think they don't seem to care because the real problems with our class hit a small percentage of the playerbase, and the trillion other bugs that exist.

Someone on that dev team cares. They're just not letting them work on it.

And now...

Im going to turn up the heat, and not on sony. This is for this comment.

"I have been a chef for one night and already thinking about surrendering the skill."

One.....night.

How about you kiss my wastril loaves? I've spent hundreds of thousands of credits, and made just a little more than that to get as close to master as I have. I make money, and alot of the initial costs were one time only. I put the time into making sure my customers like thier food, and that it actually helps them.

If it dosent, I ask them to bug it, and do the same. (even though we shouldn't be having to pay for BETA)

Your first night at....playing Violin? Im sure you just picked it up, and played all the solos in the symphony.

One....night.

"already thinking about surrendering the skill"

Go ahead and do it. More money for the chefs that put the time into it. Patience isn't just required for Chef, it's required for online games. It's required for REAL LIFE.

So, go get one, drop the skill, and call me a jerk for telling you the truth. I don't mind. Perhaps my yammering has actually caused you to think.

Yah they should get the hint, and ban newbie chefs from the boards. LMAO

I mean seriously how many times are people going to come in hear and complain about how much grinding it takes, or asking what the best thing to grind is. Check the old threads, you morons are not alone. It seems very few people are smart enough to actually figure out that exp is based on resources. And there's enough lists out there that you should be able to find one and see how many resources are required. Do the math your self you lazy bastards.

Pretty much all Elite crafting professions that depend on quality are fairly incompetent compared to the base artisan class when they first start out.

Have you tried weapon smith or armor smith? Oh my, CDEF's are so much better until you train a couple levels up in skill.

You don't see it too much with Tailor (no decay so quality doesn't matter) or Architect (most basic structures are devoid of quality requirements).

Other Elite craft professions open up new options so there's really no yardstick to measure good vs. bad (Droid Engineer, Bio Engineer). Combat Medics are pretty pathetic when they first start out. Ranged Stim A's are fairly worthless (and you never grind CM items either). Of all classes, only the Doctor really seems to build upon its base class.

Relax, get a couple points into cooking and it become so much better - not only do you have more exp points, but food assembly goes up so you can actually be successful at experimentation.

I love chefs. I wish there were more. I'm a Bounty Hunter and I'm hungry so feed me.

I want more foods for you guys. I'm looking into various combo's and I'm finding there is a ton of stuff I can do to buff my stats.

I'm very excited and looking forward to the research

people who don't understand your value are stupid plain and simple.

They merrily run around thinking that armor sucks and food buffs are dumb.

They also spend a ton of time at the cloning tanks.

I'm a bounty hunter. I would be having an impossible time if not for armor and your stat buffs. I'm using spices now and i'm gonna dump the spices because I'm tired of the downers. I've got a good combo that I'm gonna try and see how it works.

I'm thinking of a combo of Tat sunburns, breath of heaven, vercupito of whatever, and bivoli to boost my stats for a few minutes. Enough time to don my armor, boost my stats and take out my mark.

Boom mission done.

Chef, like most crafting professions, has two modes: Crafting for profit and Crafting for XP

Crafting for XP:
Grind Wastril bread until you get 32k XP to get Entrees 1
Grind Stewed gwouch until you get Mixology 2
After you get Mixology 2, you get Ithorian Mist
Then the fun begins to Master:

710400 XP
4000 Ithorian Mist (Not counting Failures)
80000 Water
80000 Corn
160000 Wheat
320000 Resources
188800c (If all Resources are harvested with Personal extractors at 60% and Wind generators at 40%)

Crafting for Money:
This is identical to other professions

Hang out in populated areas
Build customer base
Get a shop
Sell stuff to make money (I sell master food for almost 10c/unit resource, like most other professions)
Be a good merchant (Polite, friendly etc.) and people will return

Above novice chef, food is decent (multiply by two and they nearly match spice, with no after effect). I was chatting with a smuggler, spice gives double the negative effect for double the time. Then you puke for a while after that. Not fun.

People will buy food (Not random people on the street, but those who say "Hey, a chef" always leave with food, or a waypoint). Hence the customer base.

You have to be a merchant to make money as a chef. When you do, you will make decent money (believe me)

It just would be nice if you could recover some of your losses while exping by selling your wares... the base novice chef foods really don't have much benifit... I'll grind away though.. luckily the tattoine sunburns are profitable and relitavely easy to get to.

Actually, that's one thing I can't really complain about. I've been selling food at a profit since I was an artisan. I think there are few enough chefs (or were back in "my day") that you can sell non-master food reasonably well. I've actually had problem exp'ing fast enough because I need to spend so much time maintaing my shop and filling orders. My biggest complaint on this front is the high experience items (such as Ithorian mist) are not really sellable, but this is equally or more broken for other artisan professions.

My advice to you would be, "don't drop your skill points right away" If you're bored with your chef class right now, work on another skill set, come back to it in about 3 days. If you still don't like the chef or need more skill points then go ahead and drop it. To many times have I droped a bunch of skills only to find my self grinding them back up so I can have what I once did in the first place.
