Thread: The new Chef Issues.
I think it would be wise to start a new thread on chef issues, since some of what is in the main thread has changed. Anyway, I'll post mine, feel free to follow up after.
#1 - Milk. This is also needed for the high end Bio-Engineer items. Big "duh" here. Almost 1/3 of our class is compleltely useless because of this. How long do we have to wait? Its been 2 months now.
#2 - Broken schematics. So far I only know of one, the Master Chef's Rum Drop, though there might be schematics which use milk that are also broken.
#3 - Bio-Engineer enhancements near useless. The items that can actually use these aren't worth the time and effort of producing anyway. No currently craftable Master Chef items can take advantage of them.
#4 - Filling. Real numbers and statistics would be nice. Some think filling experimentation is broken.
#5 - Schematic placement. There seems to very little logical placement to many of our schematics (biggest example: Tattooine Sunburn). Also, components in the Artisan food line (homemaker) use artisan experimentation instead of food experimentation. Logically this makes no sense. Just because a chef can make some fireworks and armor doesn't mean he'll be a better cook.
#6 - Strength and duration. General length and size of buffs should be increased. We are an entire elite profession afterall, unlike doctors and smugglers which can do many other things.
Ok so thats my list. Some of you make not agree with my order, some make not agree with the list at all. I put strength and duration at the bottom for 1 main reason. Noone really knows our full potential, so to go and change our base items before fixing how the class as a whole works now would just cause more balance problems down the road. Imagine if milk were in game and you could add 1 to 2 Bio-Engineer components to any food or drink (the way I believe it should be). You could easily make a 700 point Thakitillo that lasts 15 minutes. Or the same with Bespine Port. And who knows how much adding milk and getting access to 50% more schematics will change us. I think if they address these issues, in the order presented, our class will seem much less broken/gimped than it currently appears.
I think you're making too big of a deal about milk. It really only accounts for maybe one tenth of all of our schematics (although I think I'm counting DA foods in there too). Anyways, not 1/3 like you said, or even close to 50%.
Secondly, and more importantly, I've made **edit** near everything that requires milk (yes, I got it from a guy that I suspect of duping, but I wanted to see what I could do with milk. Is that so wrong?). They're nothing special. If you think that you're going to find another Tatooine Sunburn or two, try again. There's nothing in there that's markedly better than what you've already got, and decidedly less useful than some things that you can already make.
I think that more than the ever elusive milk, we really really really need our skill tree rebalanced. This came up last night asI was talking to a friend of mine who is a Smuggler. He was making up some spices, just to see what they all did, as he never made more than 3 of them. I'm going to do the rest of this in discussion format, as it will be easier and make more sense:
Him: Yeah, only 3 out of 14 spices are any good. Oh wait, 4, Scramjet is good too.
Me: You forgot about Muon Gold.
Him: Oh yeah. Ok, only 5 out of 14 are any good.
Me: It could be worse,I've only got about 5-7 decent items out of a whole elite profession.
Him: You're kidding, right? How bad can that other stuff be? I'll bet it's not as bad as some of the crappy low end spices I make.
(had to take a break here, I was laughing so hard that I couldn't type)
Him: I've got one that does +300 Strength, -100 Quickness, -50 Focus for 10 minutes, then you get hit with a -450 downer
Me: (calming down) Ok, but how about a tier 3 chef food that gives +75 to Constitution for for 115s?
(this time he didn't respond for a while, due to laughter)
Him: Ok, that does suck. Why would they even think anyone would ever make something that bad?
Me: I dunno. I think the whole chef tree was designed by a drunk 7 year old on a coffee break.
We both pretty much agreed that was the case and ended our discussion. So, in closing, I'd just like to say that my top 2 issues are:
1. Broken food stacks, i.e. unusable after x charges are consumed
and
2.Our entire skill line needs rebalanced, with some things moved, and some things completely replaced.
In terms of what reading this and posting my reply has cost me in playing time, it comes out to $.01 of my monthly subscription fee. Sleeping costs meabout 17 cents though, so no big deal.
I enjoyed both posts--well-written and argued. This is my list, written as a smuggler/bartender hybrid.
1. Broken stacks--the few people that buy food and drink will diminish even further if they can't use half of their product.
2. Milk--sure, this might only be in 11% of our recipes, but how can something like this be overlooked by the devs so blatantly? They made a big production about including eggs, but no recipes require them (bio-engineer fix, I guess). Plus, you can't do the next step unless you can do a proper weighting of the availability of resources required.
3.Rebalancing of item buffs and duration--devs have said they are going to do a pass on our buffs, but when?
4. Experience required to advance in chef tree--thefirst tier in chef requires the crafting of 458wastril bread at 70 exp each (non-practice mode). The entirespice tree for a smuggler requires the crafting of 467 shadowpaw (a novice item) at 120 exp (non-practice mode) at a lower resource cost. Somehow, this just doesn't seemright.
5. Chef clothing and professional animations--as a profession that easily lends itself to role-playing, these would do much to enhance the playability of the class.

#1) Fix broken Food Stacks
#2) Fix broken Food Stacks
#3) Fix broken Food Stacks
#4) Rebalance/broken schematics/Over food quality duration
#5) Milk
#6) Fix broken Food Stacks
#7) Chef hats...
Many of the chef schematics don't count the right ingreditants. Most schematics want unit toughness, even though none require if. When you make items that don't have any unit toughness the entire recepie comes out very badly.
I'm not sure I care about anything else until these broken food stacks are fixed. They are a complete class wrecker as far as I'm concerned and I won't last long enough to see all this other stuff addressed if they don't get taken care of quickly.
Add to that the fact that spices give _4_ XP per resource (I did the entire spice line in 6 hours) and you can see why Im royally p'd off about chef atm.
Issues in order :
1. This damned stack bug.
2. Rebalancing. Having Dom Arts food that comes out better than some Chef foods is not on. Neither is having a Master level buff (Tat sunburn) being in Mix II. Add to that the pitiful size & duration of our buffs - we cannot compete against doctors & smugglers.
This issue would be #1 but the stack bug beats it now.
In addition, the Food & Drink bars are not a real representation of when you can eat or drink again, and there are no indications of how many servings of an item you can take at a time, or when you will be able to consume again after that
We were promised this rebalancing, yet have not seen any sign of it.
3. Milk - again promised. They can add eggs, and talk about making us require fish so Rangers have a need to fish, but not milk ?
Some say milk isnt important, however 10% of our items require it. For someone doing chef via the desserts line initially, this is a problem. There are also 2 Master items here that require it, thats 2/7 of the Master items.
4. Bazaar - Why are food & drink in the Misc section ? They should have their own category on the main Bazaar list. A Weaponsmiths weapons aren't hiddem away, why should food be. While we are at it, Spices are NOT food. How can I compete with smugglers uberbuffing spice when my piddling food is next to it
5. Factory Speed. Whilst 6 hours for 100 Flamethrowers may be acceptible, it isn't when you are in a high volume, low cash situation like the chef.
It takes me about 6 hours to make 20 Breath of Heaven - thats not enough for ONE customer.
Almost every semi-decent food needs factory components. I would like to see Food factory in particular have a choice :
Slow as currently with 10% XP
Fast without XP.
Once you Master a trade, why would you want the XP ? As a chef, I need to make a lot of identical components where the overall item sells for a low amount.
I can't make 20k for a Breath of Heaven, but a Weaponsmith who's factory is the same speed, can make that on a weapon.
6. Graphical elements. Food & drink can only be placed on tables via some tricks using stairs. When did you last see a Restaurant serve their food on the floor ? Either give us z-level move commands or please put food at a decent height. In addition, when I get a beer, and I drink it, I pick up a bottle, move it to my mouth, drink, put it down. In SWG we hear a poor sound of eating or drinking, and thats it.
I want to see people with food & drink in their hands, if only in houses & cantina's. SWG is supposed to be Immersive, give us some immersion
No real order.
- Food stack bug.
- Crates don't show what's inside.
- Lots of worthless items with bad buffs and short durations.
- Factory speed. When a muffin and a rocket launcher take the same time to makebutI'm expected to deliver hundreds of muffinsto one personsomething is wrong.
- The flavor stat does littleor nothing at all.
- Master chef items fill you up way too fast.
- Milk is not around.
- There are no chef hats.
In rough order of importance
1.Broken food stacks
2.Way underpowered way-too-short buffs, and overall balance. Chef needs to have better and more distinct buffs for a class dedicated to buffing.
3.Schematics don't match experimental results. 33/33/33 is bogus.
4. Higher end food fills you up too much, and filling in general is broken.
5. Milk
#1 Total balance pass of strength/duration with stomach filling/full time. You can use a multitude of smaller items (that can be made into bigger stacks) to get the same effect as a tier4/master item. Balance pass should be compared to the skill/time/resources required for doctors/smugglers to buff the strength and duration that they do.
#2 Milk/Broken Schematics. We should be able to make everything on our list. If we can't, fix it or remove it from the food list.
#3 Food Stack Bug. I haven't seen much of it, so it isn't a huge priority for me. I could be very wrong on this though.
#4 Reorganization of the schematics on the chef tree/fix the xp given for wastril bread.
#5 Chef hats and aprons (seriously)
1. Useless food items. Many items have the same buffs as other items so why make them? especially when some of the higher level stuff totally sux.
2. Got Milk?
3. Duration is completely way off. Our buffs can not compete.
4. Food stacking bug? I have not seen this yet and have been selling tons of food and drink both hand made and factory made. Although I did have a foraged food item that would not allow me to eat it. Was this the same thing?
Personally I don't mind the xp requirements. Yes it is amajor grind but I think that would discourage any wanna-be's and leave the profession to the dedicated only. We don't want to see as many chefs as there are CHs now do we?
My new list,
1. Unordered schematics and next to useless buffs (that one poster that mentioned a conversation with a smuggler reminds me of one I had with a friend after I showed him my Tat Sunburns. I had to explain at least three times it was the only thing I could make for that kind of buff. I still don't think he got it *sighs*.)
2. The food duration... thing... bug, change whatever it is! I can't even eat my own foods. Either make the buffs comparable to the duration you stay "full" or at the very least make the bar go down faster than it is now! It's killing my one decent sideline from Tat Sunburns, my armor packs.
3. Milk (no it's not a lot of items, it's just VERY annoying I have schematics for things I cannot make, it's an itch I can't scratch ![]()
4. Factory crates not showing uses - all I make in them for sale are Tat Sunburns and they don't show their uses (because they take components that can also be used in their own right?)
5. Chef hats/aprons - ok maybe it's cheesy but I think it's fun (btw, white striped pants + long formal jacket and you almost look like a Chef
)
At this point, I'm tempted to think that my #2 (food duration) needs to be fixed before even #1 (rebalancing) is adressed but I rather think that they are part and parcel of the whole system - or should be! So hopefully if we make it know that something has changed, and for the worse, then the Devs will take that into account when configuring buffs and moving schematics (or not).
