Thread: and you thought competing with 12 point chefs was hard... 14pts on the way...

The devs have confirmed that force crafting bonus will stack on top of tapes for a possible 14points of experiment and +45 assembly.

I can say I was worried from the moment I read the text on the FS crafting boxes.

Though many people who make FS will want to go Jedi and the ones that don't will have a hard time staying stocked... It will be strange to be 12 point and be 'just average'. I'd hate to be 10 point when there are 14 point chefs around

I don't like the sound of this one bit. I want to be a chef, not a holo grinder, not a jedi quest seeker. I find it annoying that in order to be the best chef I can be, I have to go out and kill things. Or worse yet, wander around on planets until maybe I stumble upon a quest. What on earth do jedi have to do with making food, weapons, armor, and well... just about everything? Why is it so hard for someone to just craft and enjoy that aspect of the game. I really with they'd allow us to actually roleplay here and not force a syle of play on us. I just don't understand why right now someone who has no interest in crafting is forced to do so to become the best combat class (well jedi is supposed to be the best anyway). Now it seems they will force someone who wants to be the best crafter to engage in combat.

rare? am i going to have to compete with campers to get a FS quest? if that is the case, the game may not even make it to JTL.

"Hard, rare, and slow?" - So, it is still going to be ridiculousto become a jedi? sheesh.

Also, my crafter cannot handle anything above a kreetle, so I hope the "mobs" (if that is what is "spawning" is easy). I believe the devs have said ANY profession can do it.

I'll be doing up a pretty comprehensive report on my Fan Fest findings tomorrow, but here's the quick rundown.

During the Jedi panel, I asked Keldarin (the dev most in charge of the revamp) about the "Force Experimentation" skills that were added with the Jedi revamp. Right now, they don't do anything on Testcenter2 (or has been fixed since I was last on Wednesday). I was hoping that they worked the same way as Bespin port: a bonus to the success rate, but no more points.

That turned out to be wrong (at least in the current implementation). Personally, I think that's a bad idea, but maybe they had their reasons.

So, to sum up:

Master Chef: +100 food experimentation

skill tapes: +25 food experimentation

FS skills: +20 "Force experimentation" (which stack on the above)

for a total of +145 when crafting food, and 14 experimentation points.

One thing that may help these is that the devs are planning on making the FS quests hard, rare, and slow. I hope that means "random spawn quests". So someone who accumulated the tapes themselves (or the credits to buy them) and did the force quests may very well deserve those 14 points.

More discussion will be coming soon.

Some crafters don't want to Jedi. This change forces crafters to unlock this slot if they want to be one of the best crafters on the server. On my server, two or three crafters can and do dominate the market for each of the crafting professions. Soon enough, these dominant people are going to be 14 point crafters. Twelve point crafters are going to be ordinary and 10 point crafters are going to be completely inferior. I don't see this as a good change.

Wow. Are the devs asleep? Things like this make me wonder...

Having been a dedicated crafter for the last 7 or so months, I certainly haven't had time to hologrind (nor the skillpoints to do it, as I only have 1 account...). I imagine I'm not the only major supplier of crafted goods who hasn't bothered to take the time out from stocking factories, surveying, harvesting creature resources, and loading my vendor to do something which I absolutely abhor, i.e., hologrind.

I won't even get into the multiplicity of balance issues that 2 extra experimentation points for jedi-dabblers would bring about... That should be obvious enough.

So, presented with a choice between producing inferior goods with my "mere" 12 points and dedicating what, three to six months to doing these new quests to unlock, I imagine my choice would be simply to cancel my account.

The last thing the crafting system needs is better stuff. The last thing the economy needs is hologrinders producing it.

I am just appalled by this... I can't even express how much. Guh.

Plus, I really doubt there were any jedi armorsmiths...

Personally, I have no problem at all with this concept. Whether it works well or not will most likely depend on the implementation. I would like some way to be able to improve my chef and this proposalseems better than nothing.

I also think that the problem of a few crafters dominating a particular craft on a server is unrelated. Reducing production capacity would seem like a better way to deal with that problem. There are lots of ways to do that and it would create more opportunities for others crafter's goods.

There's clearly a communication failure here. You do not need to become a jedi in order to get these boxes. Nowhere near. You have to complete a few crafting-related quests.
