Well, I think I've recovered from the initial shock of getting the position. TH should spring that on me on a Monday morning, my brain doesn't start working for a couple hours.

And now, my plans for world domination may proceed! Mwahahahahaha!!!!

<cough><ahem>

I mean, "Let's introduce everyone to the new correspondant"! Yeah, that's right. This is just for random, non-game related stuff, I'll probably start polling for game issues later.

Here's a quick rundown for those of you who may not know me. I'm in my late 20s, college graduate (CS with a heavy Math component), and I'm currently working in the Quality Assurance division of a major software company (I test software for a living). I've been playing SWG since launch (geeze, has it been nine months already?), originally starting off as a scout, but ended up following the path of the Musician. Anyone from Rori, Chilastra those first few months may have run across me in the Restuss hotel.

Since alcohol and music go well together, I started up the Dom Arts tree in early August, although I had almost as much fun making clothes.Once I hit Dom Arts IV, it was a tossup which I would take: Chef or Tailor. Well, after getting the required 19k xp and 5000 credits, I couldn't find a tailor trainer, but did find a chef one, so I trained novice Chef and never looked back. I made Master Chef near the end of November, and if you want those skill points, you'll have to pry them from my cold dead hands.

I really like SWG's crafting system, and have had almost as much fun reverse-engineering the hidden details (resource stats -> item stats, experimentation ranges, etc) as making things. The chef revamp we got last month was a great shot in the arm, I like the variety of useful choices, especially the skill buffs. There's really only so many stat buff combinations you can have before it gets pointless.

As for the correspondent position, I'll definitely be working to get up to speed with the various stuff required for that. I hope I'll be able to do even half as well as SirVimes, I've been scanning through the correspondant forums and he's had posts all over the place bringing up chef issues to the devs. And the scary thing is that he's even weirder in his writings over there than here.

Hmm, let's see, anything else...

Oh, the username, that's come up before. I've used "sciguy" as a handle on various boards for years (heck, even going back to some dial-in BBSs, explaining why its all lowercase) due to sharing a last name with a televised science guy (and no, Ezran, it's not Beakman). Unfortunately, I occasionally come to places where that's already been taken, so I add "CO" to the end, since I live in Colorado. Although this is the first place where I did that and really had people call me that name, and it's starting to look a little weird. So when referring to me, feel free to just use "sciguy", "Kriles" (my in-game name) or "High and Mighty master of all chef-dom".

Well, I guess that's about it. I may not do anything "official" for a bit since I'm still trying to get settled. And I have yet to learn how to spell "correspondent" without looking it up, hopefully that'll get easier.

sciguyCo,

Congrats man! No one deserves it more than you. And it should not be a shock IMO Your in-depth knowledgeof being a chef scares me, but I feel comforted knowing your not on my server hahaha

As for Barrells, it is my opinion they should CANCEL barrells. Call me crazy, but after running a very succesful chef busines since patch, and selling a but load of cask brandy, casks are more than enough for the market. If they allow barrells into the game, I fear people will buy 1 barrell and it will last them for 1-2 months. Currently a crate of casks brandy for 45 min duration can lastmany people 3 weeks, if not longer. What I am noticing is a gradual slow down in the brandy market. 2 reasons I see this to be: 1) More chefs in the game since patch means more product, 2) Casks are everywhere now.

I fearthat Barrels will hurt the chef economy more than we can forsee.Just my two cents for you to consider.

What you should be looking into, is plates for food

Ok let the flamers begin on my Barrell thoughts

on another note...I always wondered what title SirVimes would have were it not for his correspondent title (especially since TH hinted at several other titles being attainable but not reached yet)....community veteran, guess it'll be several more months before anyone gets something above that.

fatgit: I figured that'd be what I'd be up to.

SirVimes: There seems to be some hangup about my access to SOE's source code repository, IT is "working" on it, but you know how long tech support takes doing anything. In the meantime, I'm seeing what I can do to get thousands of "Fix barrels" flyers airdropped onto GreenMarine's house.

MovieMania007: I thinks casks may be an acceptable max container for long-duration, high-stack drinks like brandy, but schematics like BoH really need some way to boost the quantity.I also think plates are a good idea, but that'd probably be a long-term update.

:adds Meplorium to list of candidates to fill "Toady" position, looks like he's got the right attitude.

t0rp0r: I'm for it.

Sciguy,

While I agree BoH needs improvements in Quantity, adding barrells in not the answer. Barrells will only create a new problem with excessive uses in Brandy. Perhaps the Devs would be open to allowing BoH to have more quantities on the front end. Hence, Casks can have a better effect on such low end uses Like BoH.
