Thread: Crates maxing out at 25? Why not 50?

Pretty sure this has been asked before, yet I would like to bring it up anyways because I would love to see this happen. Not just for Chef, yet for all professions.

Coming from Doctor, I loved being able to make 1K runs of my items. All items had a max of 3 subcomponents, much like our food does, yet the problem with Chef and other professions which have this cap on their crates.

Take BE'd Ithorin Mist for example:

3 subcomponents: Alchol, Container, Food Additive

Try to make a 1k run of the stuff and you'd have to have at least 2 factories; 1 still pumping out subcomponent's while the other finishing the product, adding crates as they can fit as with 40 crates (1000/25=40) each (120 crates total) you can't fit them all in at the same time.On top of that you need to add the main ingredients: wheat and water

Why can't you just max out the crates at 50? There's even talk (or was) on the Doctor's Forum about having crates max out at 1k because they were sick of dragging and dropping crates from the input hopper to the output hopper (no flush/transfer command) for subcomponents.

Correct me if I'm wrong, yet wouldn't this free up the database a little? I always here talk of the numerous items clogging up the database, yet since a crate is an item, wouldn't it make sense to just have one 1k crate rather than fourty 25 crates?

What do you think?

I'm completely with you on that. 25 item crates were ok when they couldn't be split (it's a pretty usable quantity for a single purchase), but since they added splitting, I'd love to see crates be able to hold an entire factory run. Having to ferry 40 crates of alcohol from one factory to another (or even from output hopper to input) is quite a pain.

Of course, I'd also like to see crates be able to be sold at a "per item" cost, the customer chooses how many they want, the vendor gives them a total price, and they get the quantity they paid for in a single crate. Put a 500 stack crate on your vendor as your stock, and there's much less stuff for people to scroll through.

See this is why people like us dont work for SOE.This kind of thinking is too intelligent. This is just my opinion.

Not helpful.

This is a marvelous idea. It would make so many things more simple and player-friendly.

I agree

One another wild and crazy note, I'd like to see the ability for factories to be virtually connected. Similarly to the way that your vendors are somewhat connected. This way, you could look at the output hopper in one factory and direct all material into the input of another.

But perhaps the devs really want us to do things in the game, instead of everything being too easy

hmmm, can't decide on this one.......

Identical stacks of resources autostack when you put them into containers. I dont see why identical crates dont do the same.

All the complaining they do about there database, hell they ought to have increased the crate size to 100 by now. I guess they really dont have a problem with there database since they keep us clogging it up with small crates.

"I guess they really dont have a problem with there database since they keep us clogging it up with small crates."

^^ great quote

On a similar note, would be nice if harvestors emailed you stating spawn is finished, just like factories email you when they stop. It's the same thing? Harvestor can't find anything, "I'll email my owner"

This has bugged me too. I went from crafting stims and buff packs (50 units a crate) to chef and BE stuff. 25 units a crate is just not practical. I'd like to see the option to set the crate size yourself, on the factory.

I agree on all counts. Crates should be 50...we should be able to combine crates that match up 100% stat-wise...it would be great to havesingle crate outputfrom a factory...

SOE can't think of everything...but then these ideas aren't new...we've discussed them before...but its a matter of SOE recognizing their value.

If crates maxed at 50 would be nice. More however will only help exploiting.. ppl making like 40 1k crates and make schematics for those and then drop the profession.. that's not to nice

This has been visited before but now with the vendor revamp becoming a reality I thought I would revisit the subject that everyone seemed to agree (to a degree) with...crate limits of 25 for chef and any other profession with this limit. It seems to me that the new merchant vendor limits coming up are unfairly biased against those who can only place 25 items in a crate.

I know that vendors were not meant to be used for storage but they are. If the developers want to limit the purpose of vendors to non-storage,they should limit placement, item type, or some other aspect besides number. Perhaps it is the easiest way. I don't know for sure but I don't believe this is the motive in the vendor revamp, however. Regardless of the purpose, these limits keep large runs of subcomponents out of reach for the 25-craters. For example, a crafter who can fit 50 items in a crate who has equal merchant skills to a crafter who can fit only 25 items in a crate, has double the storage space. Therefore, only the 25-craters are stuck crafting more subcomponents. It seems to me that this issue should have been addressed a while ago but the few crafting professions who are affected have lived with it. Let's make some noise about this and ask:

1) What is the purpose oflimiting chefs (and any others) to 25 items in a crate; and

2) How hard would this issue be to fix?

It's been asked dozens of times by the various crafting professions, and to my knowledge we've never seen a sraight-up answer. In fact, this question has been dodged so many times that it should be clear to everybody that it's simply not going to be answered. Ever.

Of course, I'm as baffled as anyone as to why.
