Thread: Abilities of a carbineer

I've recently finished doing mymost recentholo(TKA) and opened my second one to find out that it's carbineer. Now, I enjoy trying out many different classes, and I don't speed grind through as I try to "play" each profession out to the end (and end up doing the profession for 3 months haha...) Anyways, I noticed that alot of the other professions have a "FAQ" that answers some questions and describes the class and it's abilities, but the closest thing to that I found here was a description of the special abilities.

So anyways, I produced a pretty good CDEF carbine and am ready for action but I would like to know some properties of this class, like strengths, weaknesses, quirks and specialties.

Thanks.

Strengths are area of effect attacks (including a knockdown), ability to lower the opponent's posture, ability to target the action pool, some specials that target random HAM pools (one targets two random pools, another targets three, and can also target the same one two or three times). Most carbines also pack a decent punch. Also, note that specials I have mentioned may be broken now (And I think they are), but I heard they should be getting fixed with publish 7. Also, carbines just look cool in general.

Weaknesses are very high HAM costs (if you can get buffed this shouldn't be too much of a problem), few damage types (just has energy, acid, and heat), and broken specials (which as I've said should be getting fixed soon)

I just decided the other night to go carbineer, and so far I'm having fun with it I look bad-@$$ holding my Laser Carbine while wearing my black special ops duster, black shirt, and black pants, black composite helmet, and boots that don't quite match but don't look terrible either. Just too bad I'm not as tough as I look

The FAQ is coming soon, but Carbineer is changing a good bit, for the better, with Publish 7. Fixing and/or changing 6 Specials is significant.

Carbineer is first a group support class. This does not mean we can not solo things, but our skills and high HAM costs are best used in a group or at least with a Pet. I found leveling Carbineer to be very frustrating without a GOOD pet. I got pets Befriended to me from CH's and after seeing how powerful Carbineer/CH is in PvE, I picked up CH myself.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS get buffed from a Doc or Food. You will cut your leveling time my 2/3. I know you are not in a rush to level, but quite frankly that IS experiencing Carbineer.

A few things that haven't been mentioned yet:

- We have KD attacks (including, supposedly, a multiple-targets KD that will be fixed in publish 7).

- We recently gota "limited production" bleed-enhanced E11 carbine.
- We have the coolest titles (Marauder, Mercenary)

I agree with TAfirehawk: pets are a tremendous help and Carbineer + CH is great for PvE.

But sometimes i surprise myselfwith what I can do without my pets.

Strong medic skills and lots of brandy are a must if you fight unbuffed.

Carbineer/Doctor is a great combo as well...

no points for pets, but you can be perma-self-buffed, so HAM is no longer an issue... and dropping full heals on yourself is a plus too

The best way to get those 4th tier boxes is Rancors on Dath, IMO. And you don't want to do that without a pet. In fact it got so bad that I couldn't pull missions solo to get XP when close to Master. Getting a couple thousand XP close to finishing Master requires a pet, doctor or not.

And there is absolutely no mention of ChargeShot2 being fixed in the UPDATED Publish 7 notes. All we have is the Devs saying they fixed the timer in Publish 6, which they did, but didn't fix the special itself.

Get a Nym's Slugthrower form LOK ASAP!

It is a great carbine and has NO certification, great for starting out.

You get it from doing Nym's quest.

Hmmm... I'm a DE so I can KINDA have pets, and I'm a TKA so I can KINDA buff myself...

Well, I'm be dropping DE soon because of the publish 7 nerfs. (yes those are nerf, they're making droid more complex and more expensive to make and still with same to less capability).

Anyways, I hear the have pet have buff thing for all classes, but any reason this class needs them specifically? How are the class's defenses, Pistoleer didn't even have ranged defense but I found myself doing fine. And the ham costs, it doesn't cost any ham to just autofire, so is this a heavily special-dependant profession?

And the weapons I'm seeing here seem pretty weak. Energy, acid and heat, low dps compared to almost any pistol. Any reason for this? The specials don't seem that high powered enough to compensate for this, and if the ham costs are as bad as you say then that alot of low damage shots for high cost.

Its been so long I don't remember how it looked starting out, but comparing a Master Carbineer to Master Pistoleer in DPS, no contest, I about double him.

Who uses Standard Attack? Wow, if you want to take weeks per box, maybe. We have the hardest hitting specials at the highest HAM cost, I suggest you get buffed and use the specials that are working. Our defenses suck so get a pet and have Novice Medic too. Even with a 1000 buff to Quickness I eat through my Action, so healing yourself is a requirement.

The TKA and Carbineer Speed and Damage for Specials are displayed here in an Excel Spreadsheet, check them out:

If I had data from other professions I would do those as well.

i use this spreadsheet for my own weapons, and I love it... I also added a line at the bottom with standard attack, and DPS... just to have another comparison line for my 5 carbines... (like I ever use standard... FAS2, BS1, CS1 all the way)

The new Version 2 lets you compare against different creatures/opponents with AP, Mitigation, and Resistances on each weapon's sheet.

I could easily add in the Standard Attack, which has some purpose, it won't kill ME but it surely won't kill YOU either
