Thread: If carbines are so bad ...

Why does anyone use them except to perpetuate their martyr complex.

I have dabbled in carbineer, pistol and rifle. Why are characters punished for using this style of weapon? What is the logic behind it? If you can incap yourself quicker than your opponant, then why are you using this skill/weapons style?

Please tell me if I am wrong.

I can't complain as much. With food and/or buff, I kick a lot of butt as a carbineer, and this is pre-patch.

Yeah, alot of our stuff doesn't work, but we're not all masochists--it's a great profession.

Because of this radical concept of playing as what you want to play, rather than what a little box tells you to be.

The HAM doesn't incap me, the NPC mobs do...My action can hit zero from the HAM costs and I can still fight, its the action damage from the NPCs that knocks you into incap mostly.

And for some reason, my HAM costs weren't that bad today for some reason. Not sure why...I was spamming CrippleShot today in a mission and my HAM was *gasp* almost normal, even unbuffed and un-spiced and un-fed LOL.

Other than midly high HAM costs (honestly they arent hard to get around, especially with all the new food that is out there, and not to mention Doctor buffs) we are just fine, alot of people think carbineers are so horrible at what they do they have trouble soloing pikets on Dant, honestly i don't find this an issue, yes using a carbine in PvP involves more than spamming /headshot3, and if you arent smart you will drain your action pool and end up flat on back.

Personally what i deem the biggest problem to be with carbines is speed, not that we aren't fast enough, but when someone can spam /headshot3 with a T21, faster than i can get out /fullautosingle2 from my Elite, there is a problem. Fix the speed issues, honestly i believe the only class that should be capable of hitting the 1.0 second speed cap should be carbineers. Maybe an occassional low damage pistol, but for the most part we are supposed tohave sub-machine guns of SWG. Our speed should be reflect that. +90 rifle speed is garbage

But for the most part i dont think carbineers are under-powered at all, they just aren't uber, and if you aren't hologrinding or trying to be godly in PvP, then maybe carbines aren't for you, the only reason to start a thread like this that immediately puts a damper on our proffession is to cause problems, go bother the TKA's and CM's they are likely used to this kind of crap.

Carbines aren't bad...their just no good. Seriously though, not everyone who plays this game is a powergamer. My main character actually uses carbines for roleplaying purposes (he is based onmyPnP SWRPG character). Oh yeah, and it's that you CAN incapacitate yourself faster than your opponent will,NOT that you ALWAYS do. Besides, ask yourself why people climb mountians, when it'smuch faster, more comfortable, and safer to fly over them in an airplane.

I heard that those AoE and posture changing and kd attacks are supposed to be fixed with publish 7. *crosses fingers, toes, and eyes*

Actually, Wilibus, I think it's best for carbines to generally be slower than pistols, for balance issues. I think that pistols should have a cap of 1 second, carbines 2 seconds and rifles 3 seconds...

And some things that are good about carbines:

They have decent speeds and pack a decent punch

If you are a carbineer in a group, you can be very helpful by using area of effect knockdown and posture changes, and then your buddies can use what they've got on the slowed enemies.

Carbines also just look cool.

Have you tried to use AoE KD and/or Posture Change? Goodness.....

AoE KD works ZERO out of 100 and AoE Posture Change works maybe 1 or 2 out of 100......
