Newbie Carbine Wannabee here.

I'd like your opinion on which of the following weapons is better. More than that, I'd like to know why you guys pick the one you do, so hopefuly I'll be able to evaluate weapons a little better on my own. Thnaks!

Laser Type Min/Max Speed HAM Cost PB/Ideal/Max

Laser1 Energy 100/3684.6 88/105/82 -45/38/-40

Laser2 Energy 83/320 3.9 58/74/52 -45/44/-40

Is there anything else that I'm missing? Like I said, I'm more interested in the reasoning behind weapon choosing, so any help is much appreciated!

Speed and HAM cost would be the reasons

I also vote for laser 2 for the same reasons. Unless your speed mod is over +100 and you are buffed 24/7 you'll get better results with this one. I'm sure someone *looks for TAfirehawk* will come in here and do the math. I would but it's late and I'm off to bed. See the stickey at the top if you want to do it yourself.

Are those stats with a powerup attached? If so swap it for a speed powerup instead, unless you have lots of speed already.

Okay, the consensus seeems to be laser2. Thansk for the input. When I bought Laser 1, I looked strictly at the damage, but am starting to understand the game a little more now.

As for attachements, thats something I haven't quite grasped yet. Laser 1 says that It has "been sliced..blah blah blah" but I don't see anything about a powerup.

And thanks for the tip on the calculator, I will definately look for it.

Sorry I was a bit slow getting here. As far as speed is concerned, even at MASTER CARBINEER you will be firing the best (and slowest) Specials at the Weapon Speed itself. Which in both of these cases is absolutely horrible. Honestly for a Novice Carbineer both of these weapons suck big time.

Novice Carbineer has +30 Speed and will use FullAutoSingle2 that has a 1.7 Delay and 5.5X Damage Multiplier. So looking at DPS:

Laser 1 = 235 DPS
Laser 2 = 239 DPS

As you can see, the difference is so minimal and so horrible in general.....ick

Please find a Laser Carbine that isn't Stocked and gets a Speed Slice, throw these away.....hell I wouldn't use them and I have +84 Carbine Speed (+24 above Master).

I am going to sound like aright nOOB but here it goes. When you see the Ham stats does it come from the primary or secondary parts?

This thread has been the most useful thing I have seen in the fourms.

TAfirehawk,

Thanks, very useful stuff. Can you elaborate when you say: "Please find a Laser Carbine that isn't Stocked and gets a Speed Slice"?

I'm trying to find a good carbine for a Carbineer just starting, but all the Vendors I find either do not have Carbines or their selection of carbines doesn't seem any better than what I have. So what do you mean when you say "isn't stocked" ?

Thanks

When a Weaponsmith creates weapons, some ranged weapons have 'optional' components. These options include Stocks and Scopes. These add to Damage and +X at ideal range, but also add to the ham cost. When people refer to HAM cost, they basically mean that the higher the HAM cost numbers on the gun, the faster you will LOSE your HAMs while using the weapon.

Your goal is to find a vendor that sells carbines that DO NOT have stocks or scopes on them, buy 3 or 4 of them, and get them all sliced by a master smuggler. Use the one(s) that end up with the lowest speed while you are in the lower levels of carbineer.

Personally, I disregard HAM costs because I do not fight without buffs (unless its newb wars, and then its CDEF only baby). If you are buffed, you basically want the weapon that has the highest DPS, regardless of ham costs.

Okay, I will do this. What's a good "before" speed for a laser carbine? I ask because I have no idea how much a good slice will knock off. The one I'm looking at right now has a 4.4 spd, 72-290 damage, 60/77/54 HAM

Also, the same vendor has Enhanced E11 which seem pretty nice, but i am not certified. Looking at the Carbineer Skill Tree, I don't see where I pick up this certification... Is it a different tree?

A good speed on a laser carbine would be about 3.6. However the damage would probably be significantly lower, something like spd 3.6 dam 50-265 or so. Be more concerned with the speed for now. As for the Enhanced E11, that might be a better choice for you, as they usually have a lower speed. The cert for this is the same as a regular E11 and I think it comes at Carbs II in the marksman tree.

Primary stats get the HAM loss on a weapons (when used with Specials)and Secondary stats get the hit on armor (whenequiped)
