I know I can't please everybody and I am just here to represent the ENTIRE Carbineer Community to the Devs and do my part as a REGULAR PLAYER to make Carbineer better. It seems most people forget that I am just a regular gamer that happens to be linked to SOE for community communication purposes only.....

I just decided to move my answer on the thread:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=carabineer&message.id=49398&page=2

to this place. The other thread already saw enough trouble and it's going too far off the topic. Still i'd like to post my reply here

Of course I was harsh, all of these "political" posts were NOT IN ONE SMALL BIT RESPECTFUL....they were horribly insulting to everybody here, SOE especially for breaking the ToS.

In this place i dare to ask two questions:

1. Why do you find the posts to lack respect? Can you please explain, in my eyes the whole conversation was civil and in good manners, we were not insulting each other and we also decided to cut the matter as we didn't want to converse this place into a political discussion. Actually you are the first one here to write in capital letters, which according to usual Netiquete is considered disrespectful and inappropriate language.

2. Can you please explain why this conversation is breaking the ToS? I very much assume that you refer to this document: http://sonyonline.com/tos/tos.jsp

I have read through the complete text twice, but was unable to find any actual violation of the conducted rules. (While actually a number of postings throughout the forums could be declared to be violating the ToS, the accusation of doing so is not valid forthe thread in question.)

OK, just let this thread go down the drain....and see how many people get put on "vacation" from the Mods.....actually there are 3-4 people that should have been reported already....

Do not worry. The people involved in the discussion already decided to end the matter, and to end it peacefully and in agreeance, before you took influence.

Censorship....OMG....this is NOT a free speech forum, this is SOE property with very specific guidelines everybody agreed to before entering......trying to twist the fight a soldier is undertaking around to mean we should have free speech on an SWG Forum of all places is sure a slap in the face to all military personel.

In this i partially agree with you. The forum definitely belongs to SOE, but i would consider it as a very bad business move to regulate on conversations in the forum while there are no rules violated. I also agree that the soldier in the field doesn't defend the "right of free speech in a forum". Compared to the risk and sacrifices such a soldier has to take, the way this was written might make his mission sound trivial and unworthy. Still i say, the statement was not wrong by itself, the right of free speech is among the things the soldiers defend, only the way it was written might make it sound more trivial and of less value than what the task of the soldier stands for.

If you find my answer as offensive and consider it as bashing you, then i can do nothing but excuse for it as this is not my intention. Though i also dare to say, the way you often respond on many postings is found very rude and thus offensive by several people. This in my eyes is not a problem of who or what you are, you display very detailed knowledge of the Carbineer profession and SWG in general, which you also formed into the best FAQ found in the whole forums. The only problem is that your answers are often toostrict and straight ahead, with a bit more of diplomacy you would probably get to better results without harsh responses and bad feelings expressed by the people you reply to.

I see no need to respond, but read the ToS and Forum Guidelines please....they are linked at the top of each forum.

And I use CAPS all the time....amazing how quick people are to judge me when they have no clue who I am or how I post or what I think around here....if anybody has a problem with my posts, please report them to a Moderator for review, you all have the same power in that regard as I do when ANYBODY gets out of line

BTW, I have had the Star System turned off for a long time, but I hear some of you are expressing your feelings via that method, well stop being silent and post

Don't be shy now....you have enough balls to PM me (accusing me of deleting your post) so you might as well let everybody know how you feel right here in public for ALL TO SEE.

Like I keep saying, if anybody has a problem with a particular post REPORT THE DARN THING......and if you don't like the job I do for Carbineer then PM Tiggs or GarVa or Virrago or TH.....and my 6 month term is coming to an end soon so ANYBODY can apply for the position.

Otherwise, until you are in my shoes don't pretend to know what goes on around here.

I've taken a look through them. I still see nothing which violates them, except the line:

Please remain on topic for the Star Wars Galaxies forums, do not use these forums to discuss Politics or Religion

And even here i am unsure of we violated the rule, the whole thing sure started as my first (well-meaning) wish for the poster to stay well was stronger interpreted than i thought. The following discussion in my eyes was not a political one, we didn't go into any acutal issues of politics, as we all agreed that we would not want that here, in my eyes the following posts were just "restoring peace" after this missunderstanding.

And I use CAPS all the time....amazing how quick people are to judge me when they have no clue who I am or how I post or what I think around here....if anybody has a problem with my posts, please report them to a Moderator for review, you all have the same power in that regard as I do when ANYBODY gets out of line

I am not judging you. How could i, as i never met you and don't know you. I know your postings and i saw how people reacted on your statements sometimes. According to normal Netiquete, writing in caps is understood as "shouting", which many people feel offended by. I guess this is not your intention, still this is the impression you deliver upon people reading your posts. I once again say, i respect you for your competence and i definitely have no bad feelings for you. My only comment on the matter is, as several people reacted negatively on your anwers, it could be that a bit more of diplomacy might be helpful at some time. (I know that you repeatedly say, you are just another player and nothing special. Still your title makes many people set "higher standards" on you, even if they don't even realize themselves. Still this is something you have to accept, if you bear a title, you better sooner thanlaterkeep up to higher standards than "Joe Average", else there'll always be some problems. Again diplomacy is the key.)

BTW, I have had the Star System turned off for a long time, but I hear some of you are expressing your feelings via that method, well stop being silent and post

I fully agree that the star-system is very shallow. While I used it a few times to give 5 stars for postings where i fully agreed, rating a posting with 1 or 2 stars without a comment is worthless in my eyes. If somebody disagrees with a posting, he should post his oppinion, only that way people can understand what might bethe issue.

TA, I admire you as a moderator, but regarding the previousthread which resulted in you posting this and regarding the stern action in which you warned, Idecided to re-read the rules. I also want to point out the wordoutlined in red above. Please is not requirement, it's a request, and from a political junkie such as myself.....I have to say that I (and that other fella) excersiced great restraint by being 100% respectful and pithy.

The following is a summary of the Forumrules and of the actions that took place in that other thread:

Rule 1: We are all Here to Help: I was only trying to help

Rule 2: Be Friendly and Courteous: We were both friendly and courtious

Rule 3: Be Relevant: The discussions, although not relavent to SWG, they were relevent to the original poster.....which wasn't relavent to SWG, but nobody complaind about that. (Nor should they have)

Rule 4: Be Legal: Nothing illegal

Rule 5: No Spam: No Spam took place

Rule 6: Enforcement: No rules broken, so no enforcement needed

Rule 7 Limitation of Liability: Legal jargon

I respect your authority, but wielding it wildly (When unfounded) doesn't promote free discussions. You've requested that people participate in these forumsbeyond simply using the 1-5 star system, then you squelch a discussion. (Go figure?)
