Thread: Two things I'm hearing on this board that I have a bone to pick with...

These things I've heard over... and over... and over again. Both of them piss me off, and I'll explain why.

1.) 'I rely completely on Doctor buffs. I am buffed 24/7.'

Alright, if you have come to rely on buffs, then something is wrong, very very wrong. There is no way you can survive like this. What if you are doing GCW PvP? Mass PvP. What happens a lot, is a Rebel raid happens on an Imperial City, or the other way around. When people die, they clone and get back in the fight. Well what if you aren't buffed? Then you just don't fight and defend your city? Well what if you are buffed but then die? You just stop fighting?

Relying on buffs is a stupid thing and there are ways around the HAM costs. BoH and vercupti. Unbuffed, with a hit of BoH and a full suit of armor, I can spam about7 cripple shots (after a charge and confusion shot or two) until my ham has dropped to about half. Then heal with a stim B back to full health.

When your un-buffed, use a DH17 for the really low HAMs. Buffed, use whatever.

DH17+BoH=Spam whatever you want.

If you rely completely on buffs, I don't see how you have any skill at all. Fighting buffed doesn't make you tough, playing un-buffed and actually having to use stratagys is where your skill lies.

2.) 'I use my Laser [Carbine] on armored opponents to punch right through the armor.'

Okay, apparently there is some misunderstanding about AP. So I will try to explain it.

For every AP greater your weapon is then the armor of your opponent, there will be a 25% addition to the damage that you do.

Meaning, if your opponent is unarmored, and you use a laser carbine with medium AP, you will have two 25% additions. Say you hit for 200. 200x1.25x.125=312. You can use your AP weapons on unarmored opponents and still get the extra damage!

If you use it on armored opponets and you think it does better, then why not use it on unarmored opponents?

My point is, you are getting the extra AP damageeven if your opponent doesn't have armor.

So if you say you use your DH17 on regular guys, and Laser on armored guys for the extra ap 'punch', then why not use it on unarmored people?! You still get the extra25%!That logic makes absolutely no sense...

And the only people with Medium AP are NPCs, and you should be using a Laser for PvE anyway... so that makes no sense either.

Well, that's the end of my rant. Just two pet peves that I think everyone should know about

I almost NEVER use buffs in group PvP anymore, because they go down the drain in 20 seconds thanx to MCM mind poison.

Never touch a DH-17 either, no AP=BAD. Laser is great for armored opponents, but i use my elite 90% of the time in PvP, because its AP1 and i still slaughter armored opponents at ease.

Props to Arias.

I am no longer going to use my DH17 as soon as I can make some Krayt Elites.

With BoH and Ryschat, an Elite's HAM is just fine. So I'll use an unstocked one for when not buffed, and a stocked one for when buffed.

Your right, that AP1 and 20 more min damage make a HUGE damage after the Krayt, Slice, Power-Up, armor, and damage mitigation are calculated.

HUGE difference....

If i could get my krayted/stocked laser back from my guildie, i'd be using that, but he needed a good one for BH carbine, lol. terribly high HAM tho. if i can get krayt tissue i'll be making some krayt elites for sure.

I have normal secondaries, but my mind secondaries are very very high (i wear armor all the time and i find mind is the most important) so i just heal myself when its needed, and can still spam specials with no buffs and very low low secondaries (from encumberence).

The AP bonus is NOT applied if there is no AR present.

Rev. test it agin but test it on something not vuln. to energy.

If the mob is vlun to the damage type the computer stops checking there and the damage is equal to the combat smap.

If the mob has any resits you go through the calcs to get actual damage.

The Tribeis going hunting on Endor tonight when i get home aroun 11cent time come on out and hunt with use and we can find some various mobs to let my kittys tank while we run the numbers

1. As a Master Doc, 2 minutes after dying, i am buffed again. Also, as a Master Doc, my primary mission in most group PvP is support. Throw a few shots at the enemy and make sure my guys and gals are all ok to the best of my ability. As such I migrated EVERYTHING I could to mind and subs of mind. So as a Master Doc, I am the exception in your statement.

2. It truly depends on the resists of the MOB. I do not put a lot of stock in the AP. Does it make a difference? Of course. But also, the resists come into play, and I choose a weapon accordingly. My Laser is my mainstay, but I do shift alot.... Not to mention. especially in PvP, the consistent dmg from my elite or even my dxr6, with the tighter min-max dmg, is more reliable. Yes, I hit for more top end with my laser....But I also get several stinkers in there too. And when you look at the combat logs, the DPS is very close, imo, without pulling out a calculator and figuring who is higher..

It all comes down to your template and the style of play you like....and believe it or not, I am fickle sometimes...I just may decide I do not want Red streaks shooting out...or like the sound of the Slug Thrower.. Hey, sue me, I am old and playing a video game! LOL

As was pointed out in excruciating detail in the weaponsmith forum, having a higher AP than your opponent's AR only matters if they are actually armored. You don't get any bonus if the enemy is AP0 (which is true of most MOBs now, and is often true of factional NPcs), which means you laser carbine's AP2 isn't helping all that much. I agree that that's stupid: the higher stopping power of the laser should be doing extra-super-bonus damage to things without some sort of resistance, but then again I'm not writing for this project so what do I know.

Well if that is the case, its broken, but that doesn't surprise me.

I better change my spreadsheet to reflect the ZERO bonus of AP1 and AP2 vs AP0.

The way this is intended, and to the best of my knowledge it works this way, is that if you shoot a target with an AP0 weapon, and they have armor, it will cut damage by 1/2(percentage may be off). If you shot the target with AP1, the armor is nullified, but the resists still matter. If you now shoot the person with AR1, and your weapon has AP2, there is NO bonus but it will bypass the armor as an AP1 did.

This was discussed at length in the Rifleman forums because with the T-21, when the additianal damage used to occur, we used to hit some unreal numbers for damage (for those that don't know, its AP3). Then they fixed it and thats when the T-21 started getting used a lot less because you lost the bonus to the damage. I know this to be fact in regards to creatures, in practice the great laser rifles will far outdamage the great T-21's on targets of AP2 or less. But if you go to a krayt, the T-21 will far outdamage the Laser (it has AR heavy).

Now, I know the AP ratings in pvp were bugged for a long time and I can't swear to the results, but I used to cause a lot more damage with my lasers in it than the T-21's before mitigation kicked in.

Well, I could be wrong in all this, but I don't think so. I am positive about the intentions of how AP and AR effect each other, but only 90% confident of its practice.
