Thread: which is better? burst shot or cripple shot?
The facts are in this spreadsheet, all you need to do is adjust your own carbine speed to get off the speed cap if necessary. Weapon stats don't matter when comparing special vs. special.

At the speed cap, CripplingShot does more damage because they fire at the same speed. But otherwise their DPS is identical. FullAutoSingle2 does the most DPS until you hit the cap.
Sadly I did the same thing, so I try to guide everybody away from CripplingShot. CripplingShot should only be used when you hit the speed cap for a specific weapon AND the special.
At Master I do mix in some CripplingShot for variety. If I have my +21 Carbine Speed armor on with GOOD buffs and my Krayt Carbines, I will spam CripplingShot. With my level 29 pet with armor
tanking for me, I took an Enraged Rancor down in 23 seconds landing CripplingShot every other second. If I had my powerup on the Krayt DXR6, I might have got it down to 12 or 13 seconds.
The other thing to consider is HAM requirements if you are NOT buffed or have some awesome food.
And lastly, you must always Examine the creature and pull the right weapon to do maximum damage.

Everything you need to know is in this spreadsheet to calculate speed.
[100 - character speed mod] / 100 * weapons speed * special speed = actual firing speed
At Master Carbineer you get +60 Carbine Speed, so fill in whatever scenario you want in that spreadsheet and it uses the data from Novamarine's in-game testing and that formula. You can't just say what is my needed Carbine Speed Mod to cap a 3.0 weapon, the special must be taken into account as well.

I did the maths over and over again. But it seems a carbineer never really hits the speed cap without any good to very good speed attachments.

I have +21 Carbine Speed in my armor right now and have purchased a +3 and +6 for when some armor pieces are lost due to the BLEEP BLEEP decay ![]()
That is correct and be sure to include a powerup if used, which can reduce the speed by 33%.
Carbine Speed attachments are critical IMO.
