Thread: Which carbine do you use?
I managed to get the attack speed sliced down from 3.8 to 3.1, and I'm using speed powerups to give a grand speed of 2.4
The damage isn't bad either - 122-157. The HAM costs are pretty reasonable for a carbine - 22/32/19.
The only downside to it is the armour rating, but I can just switch to my laser rifle for armoured targets.
What I find strange is that I don't see anyone using elite carbine, and I keep getting told that lasers are 'better'.
I was just interested to see what everyone else uses, and why.
I use a laser carbine that is sliced for speed, think it is 33-228 damage and 3,6 speed for long range, and I usually switch to a Drx6 that is about 90-153 with a speed of 3,1 for close fighting.
I carry several carbines (E11, EE3 & Laser) for different mobs. I would carry an elite and DXR8 (think thats the one) too but I haven't bothered looking for them yet.
Reason I do this is cause there is no 1 weapon thats best to use. If something has resists to energy I'll use the EE3 (heat) and if something has heat resists I'll use either E11 (lower HAM) or Laser (higher HAM but AP2)
No point using an EE3 if the mob has 100% heat resist (for example)
I use a laser carbine primarily. Elite carbines are broken in my opinion, they are armor piercing one, slower than a laser carbine (occasionally same speed), they have lower minimum dmg. My laser carbine is 24-307 (I am not exactly sure what the minimum dmg is, I am kinda guessing there) with speed 3.7, and armor piercing class 2. For each armor piercing class you need to add 25% if I shoot something that is not wearing any armor (i.e. armor class 0) with an elite carbine (armor piercing 1) it is doing + 25% dmg. If I shoot that same creature using my laser carbine which is armor piercing class 2, it gets + 50% dmg. Plus they are both energy, so there is no vulnerability modifiers. That makes the Laser carbine even MORE powerful. Just because the Elite carbine certification comes after laser doesnt make it better. It allows the weaponsmith a possibility to make it better yes, but right now they are still new to making them.
I personally feel that the Devs could have given the Elite carbine some sort of edge on the other carbines, I mean, come onnnnnnnn, armor piercing 1 and energy dmg. Just not cutting it, I am now sorry I chose the carbine to master. I should have chosen pistol due to the far better skills, or the rifle for the non-healable mind dmg. Oh well, I am gonna stick with it hoping that it gets fixed.
P.S. our defences suck compared to the other weapon trees, just take a look, we get crappier speed/accuracy modifiers, weaker defence, higher ham cost, weak elite weapon, and oh did I mention already higher ham costs. All of that . . . for what . . . some broke *** skills. We get one good skill, charged shot 2, which is broken, I would like it if crippling shot really did criple a person, and did insane amounts of dmg, since we are the only class of weapon that does not get a mind damaging shot. and have you noticed a difference between leg shot 2 and leg shot 3, I havent, it does about twice the dmg of a normal shot. Meh. EM EE EITCH m.e.h.

Little detail, but actually the armor rating bonus is calculated in steps. So AR2 against AR0 results in 100 * 1.25 * 1.25 = 156 points of damage. So it's actually a 56% bonus ![]()
I still use the first carbine I got after CDEF, and that's a 22-210 (or something) laser carbine. Searching for all the other types, but somehow ALL the weaponsmiths are making like 80% pistols, 15% rifles and the occasional laser carb which I already have, although I need a better one of course. Craft more carbines damnit ![]()
I have all but the elite carbine because on intrepid decent resources haven't spawned to make good ones.
I barely use my laser carbine anymore. I got tired of hitting for 1000 pts of dmg one time and 35 pts of dmg the next 3 rounds. I almost use my DH17 exclusively. I gotthe speedsliced down to 2.1 and even though it's AR0 against unarmored mobs (what I mostly fight) it kicks butt. I got master marksman and the int carbine tactics (the one that gives you +5 carbine speed). I pop off shots like i'm using a scout blaster with that thing. For humanoid mobs I mainly use a dxr6 because of it's acid damage. Tons of mobs that I've seen have acid vunerablity and nearly every humanoid mob on Lok has it. The DXR6is AR1 and with the vunerability of their armor all the damage goes through and is magnified by 25%. Yeah the laser is AR2 but man I'm tired of those pansy damage shots they do because of that insane range between min and max damage and the fact that EVERYTHING has some sort of energy resistance. With the DH17 that resistance is negated since I'm already firing so fast to begin with.
I'm using a DH17 Snubnose w/Stock
90-223 at 2.6 (60.1DPS) with 24/26/13 HAM costs.
or my Laser Carbine for armored targets.
37-297 at 3.9 (42.8DPS) with 30/47/23 HAM costs.

Holy smoke! That DH17 had great damage. Sliced? I have a sliced 81-180 at 3.6 with around 40/50/40 HAM. Saw some new DH17s snubs at 64-160 at 2.8 with low HAM. But I bought a EE3 instead.
The snubs are pretty hard to come by, at least on Eclipse. DOn't know though if they sell out fast, or the weaponsmiths don't make them.
