I benchpress 225lbs. Is that strong enough?

No really, in PVE we are very strong against low to upper middle level opponents. In individual PVP we are...well not strong at all. In group PVP we are very good indeed. We get hurt in highend PVE because we have limited damage types (energy, heat, and acid) and mosthighendmobs have resists to these. We suffer the same fate in ivdividual PVP as most composite has strong resists to these also. In group PVP our state attacks (stun, blind, dizzy, knockdown, and posture change) are very handy at crowd control so long as you have others to be the main damage dealers.

Hope that helps.

BAsically what we lack in damage we make up for in debuffs and such. We have an area knockdown and dizzy attacks

Carbineers are good ONLY in Group PvP and Group PvE. Solo-ing high end mobs is nigh impossible because of our pathetic Damage types, and I PvP as a master Carbineer/Master marksman, I use 70% abse 40% stun composite armor, Brandy, Synthsteak, and muon, and i still get my ass handed to me by fencers or rifleman.

Being a Master and having good composite armor and buffs i dont have a problem with highend pve.. granted it takes quite awhile for me to solo a kimo (mainly because of its high resists to all my damage types) but its still possible. havent tried to take on a krayt since my novice marksman days but thats my next challenge..

As for PVP.. ive won soloing with 3 to 1 odds before. our area dizzy and knockdown with some cripple shot thrown in works well for me. Mind is our only problem, but with a set of mind buffs and 3 shots of brandy makes it a bit easier to stay alive. it all depends on the opponent... ive had my a$$ handed to me by a TKM, and ive also taken down a group of 3 TKMs by myself.. ive killed CMs and CMs have killed me...

and last but not leaset NEVER underestimate the power of a good Krayt enhanced/stocked enhanced e11 Carbine... i go through em like droid batteries...

It's hard to tell in PvP because CMs always just wipe you out.

In my opinion, carbine are overall good at anything, just need the right carbine, the right skills and the right food or drink...

As a doc, CMs cannot even hurt me and I mean they can spam like hell before they can actually defeat my cures.

I don't think anybody here is doubting that a TEMPLATE Carbineer can be very effective. But look at a Master Carbineer / Master Architect character.....which I was one....damn near completely useless.

I now have Master CH because I PvE mostly, but I am picking up Pistoleer 0040 to help in PvP now.

I've found dabbling in BH to make a HUGE difference, I can solo level 99 imperial missions now without even getting hit.

And there goes one trooper in 5 seconds, before him or all his friends have reacted to the initial fire. I've yet to visit the Geonosian Labs or Corvette with this speed, but before I found myself ill-effective as merely a master carbineer.

The primary disadvantage is my inability to enjoy other parts of the game, being a specialist limits what else I can do, in regards to entertainment or crafting...

If you want to be a carbineer for real you probably want to get that tree of Bounty hunter. I mastered a number of combat professions and found carbineer terribly disappointing.
